Mac Mini :: Finding Recommended RAM (2x2GB)
Mar 16, 2009
Planning to order a new Mac Mini in the coming week and would like to get some advice as to what to go with in terms of memory - brand and model-wise. I will be going for 2 x 2GB of course.
I see here on newegg that one reviewer is saying that the corsair modules don't seem to be working with his Mac (isolated case?).

As of now, I have about 94gb free on my stock 5400 rpm 250gb (really 210) drive that came with my June 2009 2.53ghz 15inch MBP.
The drive is fine and everything but i am going to college in the fall and i can foresee this drive filling up to capacity in the near future.

looking for recommendations for a NAS drive that works well with a Mac.
I have a QNAP TS 209 Pro, but it's dying on me. It goes to 100% CPU. I do like the it overall, but it's pretty expensive.

I have a white macbook , its one with intel GMA950, and 3 GB ram ( tops at 3 gb )
I want to get an inexpensive SSD drive, I don't need that much space in the drive , I just need it to be fast, so I thought a 64 GB will fit my work easily.
The thing is, which model is the cheapest/safest for <= 200 USD.

The features that are really important to me are:Time machine compatibility iTunes server built-in. I would of gone for time capsule except it doesn't support itunes server - i take it that it's still the case regarding time capsule.

I'm thinking of getting the recently released macbook with 8gb ram and a SSD. I will install the ssd myself if possible.
My primary uses are Lightroom, FCP and PS CS5. I guess this is a little underpowered for me but to get the 15" i7 pimped to the correct spec will just break me.

Trying to get my boss to agree to let me have a MBP. I will have to run Windows for access to Access and I just wondered if anyone could recommend which way to go: VMFusion or Parallels? Or perhaps Boot Camp.... although I would prefer, ideally, to have both Win and OX running at the same time, rather than having to choose at boot-up.

So here's the deal, I've currently got a 2006 Mac Pro with an ATI X1900XT video card and a 23" ACD.
I'm looking to add two more displays to my setup (most likely 24" Dells) for a total of 3 monitors and would thus require 2 graphics cards.
So here's my question, would I be able to keep my current X1900 card and add a second card? If so, what card would people recommend?

I currently have a 450MHz Cube with a standard CD-ROM. I would like to add a CD burner, but I'm debating whether to buy an internal burner, perhaps one that originally came with the Cube, or a faster external version.

I've bought a mac pro in jan 2008 with the 8 core 2.8 ghz setup and 2x 1gb of ram.
Now i want to upgrade but im doubting what will give me the most performance:
4x1gb = 137 dollar
2x2gb = 95 dollar
What would you guys do? I read that one gb modules are faster because I already have 2x1 gb and with 1gb all modules will be even...

I'm going to be getting an iMac 27" when they come out and just get the stock 2x2GB sticks of RAM that come with it. I want to upgrade to 8GB... but I'm doing 2x4GB so that if I ever decided I wanted to do 16GB (I don't see why, but why not at least have half of it?).
My question is, if I do this, should I leave the 2x2GB sticks in with the 2x4GB sticks? Or should I take them out?
There seems to be some conflicting ideas about what RAM to use. I know you're supposed to do it in pairs, but I don't know how the iMac handles having 4 slots.

I have a new Mac Mini. I have the mini display port to dvi adapter that came with it. I want to connect to Samsung monitor with a dvi-d port. My problem is that I can't find a dvi-d cable shorter than 6'. Since the Mac Mini sits on my desk next to the monitor, I would like to have a short cable or one that would go directly from the computer to the monitor without an intervening 6' long cable. Anyone know where I can get one?

Did I do this wrong?
Each bank has a 4gig and a 2gig. I installed them into the machine with the 2x4gig on the left, and the 2x2gig on the right, and the "banks" are apparantly front and back, not side and side.

First I thought on buying the 4 bay one, but then I found its 2nd generation, so I guess it would be better to buy the newest one, which would be the 5 bay, not the FS one. I've never used a NAS, so I dont know how it works.
Now I'm looking at the Drobo with 8 bay, and I really like it. With that one I wouldnt have storage problems for years, and I download many many things every day: tv shows, movies,, pictures, music, etc

I have a 2009 Mac Mini, which does not have a webcam. I don't need an expensive one, but I'd like to stick a basic one on there for iChat, etc.
I see webcams in the various stores for $25 or $30, which seem like they'd do the trick, but the boxes always say they're for Windows systems only.
I'm assuming that means the software that comes with them. But if I buy any old Microsoft or HP web cam and just plug it in, will the Mini see it and understand it?

I recently purchased the new mac mini from Best Buy: [URL] Unfortunately they had no option to upgrade the units RAM, so for now I am stuck with the standard 2gb.
My question to you would be my best option out there for cheap RAM. My preference would be either a single 4gb stick or to 4gb sticks to get me to 8gb. In full I am looking to spend no more than $300 dollars, but want to have the best performance possible. Unfortunately the Apple branded RAM is a little too steep for me at this time: [URL](8gb in particular), and I would hate to get two 2gb sticks and have to re-purchase everything again when I decide to go to 8gb in the future.
