I have a macbook pro mid 2009 running Lion (upgraded twice). Right now, there are two sticks of 4gb RAM in the computer, however, if I go to about this mac, system profiler, or activity moniter, they all show that I have only 4gb, while I should have 8 (photoshop is running slower than it should, so obviously one stick is not being used.)
After testing a few times, I have found:
The not functioning slot is the bottom slot, If I try to start up my computer with a stick of RAM in there only, my macs screen stays dark and beeps periodically along with the "sleep" light flashing. However, if I just use the top slot, my computer works fine.
I know its not the RAM sticks themselves because i've also tested with 1 and 2 gb ram, so I suspect my ram slot is broken somehow. It looks fine, the ram goes in and everything, but obviously something's wrong.
I ran hardware test and it said everything was fine, but still only showed 4 gb total ram and told me theres nothing in the other slot.
So is my RAM slot just disconnected or something/broken?
I just plugged headphones into the headphone port on my iMac(dual core 2.4) I went to system preferences, sound, then output and only the internal speakers show up. I rebooted the machine and still, same thing.
I tried the same headphones on the eMac sitting next to it, and it worked just fine. Still confused about the iMac
My email messages for one Google account no longer show up in my OS X Mail client.Case info:This may have occurred after I enabled the 'All Mail' to Apple Mail for the account, then removed it once I saw it was adding every single message I deleted since the beginning of time. Still, that doesn't explain the following...My email messages for another Google account does show up in my OS X Mail client. They have exactly the same IMAP settings other than username and password. My email messages for the account that doesn't work, shows up fine on my iPhone/iOS and gmail.com.None of the messages in the inbox or folders/labels show up. The count is zero. However they all show up fine in folders in iOS and on gmail.com.There is an indicator for one new message in the inbox, but none show.
Info: MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), Mid-2010
A friend of mine gave me some personal stuff she wanted to back up to DVDs. She gave me TDK 16x DVD+R media to backup the stuff. I, however, can't backup the videos she gave me cause the disks aren't showing up on the Mac at all.
I installed 8 GB of Ram a couple of months ago and only 4 of the 8 are shoing up in activity monitor and in about this mac. I had been working fine I think I am pretty sure I checked. I am running in 64 bit mode btw.
i start up my macbook pro (only about two weeks old, bought from apple store) and the grey screen with the apple logo and a little moving cirle underneath comes on and stays on for VERY long and then a message comes up saying there has been a problem so please restart. it does not say what error. i have tried putting in the hardware diagnostic dvd but that obviousl wont run because it doesn't get past the apple logo before giving me this message. it was working five minute before and:
-there was no new drivers installed, -i have never opened up the macbook -no new software installed before it stopped working -i charged it regularly and the battery was on 90+%
For some reason my Macbook keeps saving my ID on Facebook. I have autofill off in my Preferences. I've cleaned out my cache. Cleaned out my autofills. Why is it still showing up??
I have a usb midi controller (vestax spin to be exact) and my mbp doesn't seem to recognize it but I know it's on because of the power light, what can I do? Also sometimes I get a message to power down my computer or restart.
So far this has happened twice to me, once while playing CS:S, and once today while playing TF2. You can kinda see the weird shapes that appeared on my screen in my picture, except in game they covered the entire screen. Is this maybe the GPU overheating? (I added the red circles afterwards btw)
I recently upgraded my MBP's HDD and RAM. The HDD upgrade from 200GB 5400 to 320GB 7200 when great, however, I installed 4GB of matched RAM and only 3GB show up. The sticks are 2GB DDR2 667MHz. When I install 3GB (1GB & 2GB Sticks), only 2GB show up. I understand some MBP's have a 3GB limit, however, Apple told me the limit on my MBP is 4GB's. I also tried 2 different brands of 4GB sticks (2X2GB)
My Mac Book Pro Mid 2009 (nVIDIA M9400) is showing the wrong colors. Some grey colors are displayed brighter then they should be displayed. They look whiter. If I take a screenshot and display this picture on another screen, the colors are displayed correctly. The I've tried to calibrate the colors. That didn't solve the problem. I also tried to reset the PRAM with pressing CMD+ALT+P+R while booting. No effect. Also I installed the drivers from nVIDIA again. The only method, that worked right now is starting a game, which changes the screen resolution etc. After closing the game, the Mac is showing the colors correct.
Whenever I try to delete a photo from iphoto it comes up again when I re-open iphoto but as a grey square with a white dotted line. Even though I empty the iphoto trash and my macbook trash. How do I get rid of these pictures completly?
I have a MBP with a dead hard drive that I am trying to resurrect. The MBP was working one minute then it just froze up. On reboot I got the flashing folder with question mark meaning it couldn't find the OS. I tried to access the drive remotely from target mode but it wasn't listed. I pulled the drive and hooked it up to an SATA to USB cable and tried to access from other systems but again it wasn't displayed.
i have a 1,5 tb usb 3.0 external hard drive that doesnt show up in finder or desktop, i dont know if it is the cable or why it appears and disappears. what should i do?
I'm not sure if this is should be in hardware or software, so I apologize if this is in the wrong catagory. I have a "5,1" Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook 2.0 Ghz 2 gb RAm
I just replaced the stock 160gb hard drive with a 500 gb Seagate. Everything is working perfectly except for one odd issue: While plugged in, the MacBook says it is charging normally and appears to actually be doing so. However, when I unplug it, it shows the plug icon on the battery as it does at 100% charge and says "(Not Charging)". Power management wise it also behaves as if it is plugged in. So, as you can imagine that is quite annoying as it doesn't dim / sleep when it should if left sitting and I can't see my battery % when it is unplugged. I have looked EVERYWHERE on the net to no avail. The MacBook is no longer under warranty so no dice there. I have also checked my energy settings as well as reset the SMC.
My MacBook (purchased late 2007) battery indicator has an "x" where the battery meter usually shows the time/% remaining. When I unplugged the power cord, the computer shuts down. The battery life indicator on the bottom of the battery shows it's fully charged and it works fine with my other MacBook. How to resolve the battery issue?
I just put in a 350gb hard drive into my macbook. Installed the OS and everything is working, except I'm only getting 297gb out of the 350 gb I bought? What could cause me to loose over 50 gb of HD space? and can I somehow regain those lost gb's
sometimes when the computer stars, the Bluetooth Icon in the Menubar doesn't appear. If I go to the bluetooth preferences panel it says it's on and the show menubar icon is checked. I've got to recheck it to see the icon again in the menubar. The icon shows up until maybe weeks later when it doesn't and I don't know why.
I more than likely user error but I've just switched from Windows and I copied all of my photos from a USB hard drive over to the laptop hard drive which I put in a folder called "My Photos" in the "Photos" folder already created by OSX. For some reason I can't find "Faces" to start grouping the photos. It's not even showing up on my laptop in iPhoto.
I was viewing the specs on my mac, and for memory 2 GB is shown. When I bought it, I chose 4 and I am pretty sure when I checked it few months back it showed 4. I am doing all this in Leopard. Now it's only showing 2 GB, any idea on as to why?
I own a Aluminum MacBook (not pro) 2 GHz. I decided to hook it up to an external Vizio monitor. When I do this though, when the TV is the main screen half the dock is cut off at the bottom does anyone know how to fix this?
I was checking out my Activity Monitor the other day and I have noticed this before. I have 4GB in my MacBook Pro and updated to SL and now AM is only showing that I have 3.75GB. I figured maybe it was just an error and I have shut my MBP off and it still hasn't changed.
