Just got from Best Buy where they told me that my 17month computer (logicboard) has to be replace. I;m trying to access my files other than the one shares thru my XP computer but with no luck.

On my iMovie, mov video files doesn't work it shows up as a white screen also on my quicktime. But mpg files works prefectly on my imovie. Can someone help me find a codec or a mov a mpg converter for Mac OS X 10.3.9?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am finally buying my first Mac (as well as my first laptop) and need some advice as to what I truly need (as opposed to what I covet) - not just for school but for professional internships as well.
I will be using Adobe Creative Suite (CS5), with Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator, but I am also an interior designer and use drafting and modeling progams such as AutoCAD and Revit or similar.
I have settled on a 15" Macbook Pro because I wish to be an ambidextrous platform user, but here are a few things I am undecided about:
-Intel Core i5 or i7 processor?
(I believe the i5 is packaged with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 256MB GDDR3 memory and the i7 with 512MB GDDR3 memory)
-4GB of RAM or 8GB?
(should I start with 4 and add modules later if I need them?)
-500GB Hard Drive: 5400rpm or 7200rpm?
-the standard 1440 x 900 display or the Hi-Res 1680 x 1050?
(after reading other posts here, it seems that the gloss screen will be better for me than the anti-glare)
Anything else I should be considering?
I've had a Roland XP-30 and just got the M-Audio MidiSport Uno and downloaded the latest drivers from the site. The device is recognized on my Powerbook, but I can't get any audio playback from the keyboard. I've tried messing with settings on the keyboard, but still can't get it to play or record on my Powerbook. In GarageBand, Reason, and Audio MIDI Setup the device is properly recognized.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI found out what the problem is but i'm not sure which cable to get.My TV manual says 'Connect a D-Sub cable between PC IN [PC] connector on the TV and the PC output connector on your computer" (did that part <<) and then "Connect a PC Audio Cable between the PC IN [Audio} jack on the TV and the Audio Out jack of the sound card on your computer. . The port is next to the VGA cable in the pic.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have had my MacBook for 6 months and it has worked just great with my WiFi network and any other WiFi I have happened to connect it to. This morning, while I was downloading some files, my internet connection died on me. At 1st I thought it was my provider and I usually fix that by restarting my Router. I did that, but nothing happened. I could detect and connect to my WiFi but I had no internet access! My wife's PC and mobile phone connect perfectly well to my WiFi and so does my iPhone!!! My MacBook now only works with Ethernet. Let me add that I have the 13.3" MacBook unibody running the latest Leopard 10.5.8. software upgrades.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two 1.5TB HDs, RAID 0, as my itunes library. I use Time Machine to back up all my drive, but I also wanted to clone the RAID but only use a single drive as the clone. Will this cause any potential problems since its going from a 2 drive RAID to a single drive.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOver the past few weeks I have been having issues with Time Machine. I have a 2Tb drive for time machine. One of the partitions that it backs up is a raid disk with 2 disks in the concat raid disk. One is a 1Tb Firewire device and the other is a 750Gb USB devcie. What happens is that the backup starts and sometimes works but a lot of times the partition umounts itself and you get an error onscreen pointing out that you have disconnected the drive without unmounting it. A couple of seconds later the drive remounts and all is good again with the drive but the backup has failed. I have rebuilt the backup device and fsck'd the partition in question and I see no errors.

YouTube vids used to run just fine, about 2-3 years ago. Now, of course, it's choppy at best. Ditto Hulu and pretty much any other online video.
I seem to recall something from years and years ago, back in the Classic days, of how you could let the graphics use regular RAM to supplement the vram, something like that - the end result being that it would play smoother than before, kind of a speed bump for the video.
i am going to buy the new macbook pro with the i5 card and I was wondering what would be the best option for me because i will use the laptop more often for graphic design then for video editing.
1. to get the macbook with 5400rpm hd, this way my laptop wont over-heat and will be sufficient for graphic softwares such as photoshop. when i will want to use the laptop for video editing i will hook it to a portable hd through firewire cable for maximum data transference speed.
2. other option is to get the 7200rpm hd, but i'm afraid for the well being of my laptop because it will already get quite hot with the fast i5 processor. and the great graphic card.
I am interested in using my Samsung LNT4081F as a monitor for my Macbook. I do not want to connect it with a cord, as I would then need to purchase a wireless keyboard etc. Is there any product that allows you to wirelessly view whats on your computer screen on a TV? I also am concerned with losing resolution.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI may be using the incorrect terminology, but videos like u-tube, are very slow, to the point of just sitting there, frozen, while it "loads" for a minute or two, then runs for a couple of seconds, then stops to load again, sometimes for several minutes.
I have the small macbook, with SL, 2.4 GHz, 2 GB, 667 MHz. I know this is a standard problem, but there must be something I can do to make it better. I thought maybe the SL would help, but no.
This problem has been going on for a couple of months now. I use my macbook at 2 places: school and home. At school, when I click the school network under airport, it connects and shows the full bars. But when I open safari/firefox, the page won't load and I get the error message when you're not connected. However, sometimes after like an hour of persisting and retrying, it will be able to access the internet for a little bit for like an hour or so maybe, and then it'll stop working. At home, it's the same thing. It will connect to my home network (got wireless at home set up through my desktop PC), and show the full connection on airport, but it won't access the internet for the life of me. The difference is I can never gt it to connect unlike at school where it sometimes works, except that it worked for like one day out of the last 2 months (and I didn't change any settings then so it's not like I can attribute it to that). Also, I am absolutely positive that the networks of my home/school computer and the router settings etc. aren't to blame. Reason is that my friends with macbooks can access the internet both using my home network and the school network (the school one is obvious). What could possibly be going wrong? Any settings on my macbook that I can change / completely reset? Is the network card or something messed up? I'm contemplating just completely formatting my laptop to see if it fixes the issue. I have leopard installed btw.

I have no desire if I do get one to boot xp on it I find the mac os to look more clean(yeah if that makes since) My current laptop is a sony vaio. I mean I know its not strong enough to handle the adobe programs, I can barely run flash cs4 and photoshop cs4 at the same time. My specs on my current sony vaio which I got like 2 and a half years ago is 0.99 gigs of ram/1.60 ghz/ginuwine intel (r) cpu. I know its nothing compared to today and with more work from clients I need something that can handle running at least 5 of the adobe programs at the same time with the internet browser opened and maybe a mp3 player like jet audio playing some tunes to get some serious work done occasional video editing but nothing too crazy..

I need to change the monitor setting to MIRROR MODE which I believe is located in System Preferences but I cannot see anything with the current limited display.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem that I'm hoping to solve. I have the most recent revision of MacBook Pro 15" with a Core i5 processor in it. I use it mostly in a desktop configuration with a 24" Apple Cinema Display.When I boot the MBP without the cinema display, there are large horizontal lines that appear after boot, and there's nothing I can do. Sometimes they are alternating black and white lines, sometimes different shades of blue. Sometimes shades of red. In all instances, I cannot do anything except force power off the laptop.

Normally wide screen movies play default with the top and bottom blacked out following industry resolution standards. When you play a full screen movie the sides are blacked out.
I JUST found out that you can adjust the Video Zoom in either format to fill the screen.
You also have sound EQ options in the same menu.
Simply double click your upper left screen to show the DVD player menu
go to Window and scroll down to
Video Zoom
Video Color
Audio Equaliser
You can also lock the aspect ratio
Now I can finally watch my wide screen movies widescreen/ full screen and it's awesome!
The EQ is also helpful if you want to bring out the dialogue boosting the voice frequencies.
I switched out monitors at work yesterday and now my video out on my mbp is no longer working. I even tried the old monitor and it's a no-go. I do not have another mini-display port to DVI adapter so I hope it's that rather than the computer.The screen will do the "to blue" flicker as normal when you plug in a 2nd display - but nothing shows up on the second display.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI uploaded 3 videos yesterday at noonish and they still don't even show up as processing. I logged in to YouTube and manually uploaded the videos and it worked. Is there anything I should be doing that I'm not?
For the record, I had a DVD, converted the vob files to one big .dv file with MPEG Streamclip, imported that into FCP, cut up the video into pieces and synced video audio to cd audio of the same source, did Export to Quicktime, imported them into iMovie, added titles, then uploaded to YouTube.
I just got my new MacBook Pro and am already having annoying issues. For some reason, Safari fails to show video in web pages. For instance, videos from apple (any of them, including trailers). I get the controls and audio - but instead of video, just a blank screen. I'm using Snow Leopard. Looks like a problem with quicktime. I can see youtube videos, for instance. In Firefox, it asks me to download a plug-in to see the videos, but it can't find any.

I used to have a little app that had an icon in the menu bar showing what graphics mode was being used while on battery/charger. I swear I can't remember the name of the app. It was useful for making certain that the right graphics mode was being utilized (amongst other things).
It's not Battery Health - I can't recall it at all. I obviously didn't get it in the App Store because nothing like that is showing up in my purchases.

When recording video in PhotoBooth mst of it is not captured. For example, say I record a video for 3 minutes, the clock will say 3 minutes, and once I hit stop the resulting video file will be around a minute long. This is happening with all recordings, however I do not have such problems when using video capture in iMovie.
