I've got an imac with a dead monitor and when i plug in an external monitor to get a display it only shows me the far corner of the desktop and I cannot access the dock or anything else to change settings. I need to change the monitor setting to MIRROR MODE which I believe is located in System Preferences but I cannot see anything with the current limited display.
View 1 RepliesMy 17inch iMac G5 has a vertical shaded band in the display that I cannot remove. Does anyone know how to fix this or it this now a permanent problem? The picture underneath is not corrupted, however it is a lighter shade. The vertical band is about 2 inches wide.
View 1 Replies View Related24" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro 13", running on latest update, is showing a completely blue, plain blue, desktop background. It changed all by itself. When I tried to reset it by right clicking on the image I want on my desktop and selecting "Set Desktop Picture" nothing changes. When I go into my settings and try to change it that way, the image I want as my background shows as already being my background, yet my desktop is still blue. Tried rebooting already.

I want to keep my school files on desktop two so they are all in the same place, and use desktop one as a place to perhaps save photos or other files not school related. When I swipe between desktops, the school files move between the desktops as I swipe but I want to keep them on one desktop all the time.

While I'm moving my cursor (seemingly on the desktop or some software) it will occasionally jump to one of the corners of my monitor. Otherwise it seemingly is unaffected. I just have to drag it back.
I'm guessing it's something in my preferences but I don't know what.

Upgraded to Office 2011 from 2008, when I open existing spreadsheet on MacBook the bottom of the page extends below the dock so I cannot access resize corner. I can maximize to get access to resize but am looking for fix so that when a sheet is opened the page does not fall below dock. Even happens on new default spreadsheet.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just dragging some items around the desktop into some folders in the Finder and I guess something got messed up. When I was finished moving things around, a small square icon appeared in the left hand corner of the screen that cannot be dragged to another location or deleted. Whenever I click, it a small screen pops up momentarily, saying that it's going to open a file (I deleted the file) and nothing happens. After I deleted the file, the small square box just contains a picture of a question mark. I'm trying to get rid of it, but I don't know how to.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the standard 13" aluminum macbook, and I was looking into getting the 'Mini DisplayPort to VGA' adapter to connect my 22" Samsung monitor. On the Apple website, I have seen nothing but horrible reviews about the connection cable, saying that it exclusively does not work with Samsung brand monitors and TV's. On the other hand I only see good things about it connecting to other devices and monitors.
Can anyone shed any light on this? It's already ridiculous that i have to pay the 30$ price for this cable just to use an external monitor, the least I can do is know that it will for sure work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter updating to Lion, I set my macbook up with a few different desktops so I could easily swipe between them instead of searching for the windows I needed.I just set up a second monitor to my mac and noticed that anytime I swipe to a different desktop, both monitors change. Is there a way to "freeze" one while the other moves? Or better yet, can I set up my second monitor to only have one desktop while my mac still has 2 or more?

I got iMac on my office. There is network issue on my iMac Desktop. When my computer remains idle for long time (sleep) and wakes up again, I can ping into the same network device (say 192.168.0.0 network) but I am not able to ping into other sub net (say 10.2.0.0, printer network).
Restarting iMAc resolves the problem or unplugging the cable and connect to some other Laptops and connect back to iMAc works again (I mean I can access other networks again). I turned of auto-negotiation and tried renew DHCP Address but it still doesn't solve my problem. Restarting the computer and unplugging the cable and plug-in back is not a solution for me.
I have a 27" iMac. I would like to split the screen into two differently configured desktops or monitors. Apps like TwoUp or Divy don't exactly do this. I'll explain it with an example:
Suppose I'm working on a document and I need to open many folders to retrieve files. One common problem is that opened folders overlap each other and sometimes they overlap with the document I'm working on, or they go underneath the document. I would like to split the screen vertically in, say, two virtual, independent desktops/monitors, like this:
- one window/space on one side (say, on the left) of the screen would contain the document from top to bottom, with no dock bar on the bottom
- the other window/space (right) would behave as a regular, full desktop, with the entire dock on the bottom
In this way, if I need to navigate to find a file to use in the document, I would move the cursor to the right. The Finder would work only in this window/space, thus windows or other applications would never overlap or clutter the left side of the screen. Drag-and-drop from right to left should be possible.
One way to imagine it is as if the 16x9 monitor were comprised by two vertical, 8x9 independent monitors side by side, each with its own configuration.
When I download a program it downloads into my download folder but when I try to open it it goes straight to disc utility. How can I change this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter moving I setup the Mini, but got nothing from the monitor. Reset PRAM & PMU, nothing. CPU chimes, etc.work, but the only thing I get from the monitor is a yellow square with a brief message indicating there's no signal.
It's a Mini, 2 MB RAM, Core 2, OSX10.5.x, it's less than a year old. The CPU appears to be OK. Monitor is getting power.

recently I tried to split a Youtube video clip into 2 segments. Unfortunately I input the wrong instructions and ended up with over 3700 4kb files on my desktop. Totally overloaded.
Is there any way I can delete these 3700 files without trashing other needed files on my desktop?
I have no effing clue what happen... I just rebooted my computer and then started having issues displaying on my primary and secondary monitors. At first primary monitor was not displaying but second was working... then vice versa... now I can't get second monitor working... I have no idea what to do...

I've always had my computer in the corner of my desk. I don't know why, but I just prefer it there. However, with my new super-huge 27" screen, the iMac doesn't really seem to fit in the corner pocket like my old 17". I'm thinking about becoming a "center of the desk" person as a result, but I'm reluctant to do so. Where do most people place their new iMac on their desk and why?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo this is my first time really implementing Macs in an Active Directory environment and everything is going fairly well, except when it comes to the Home directory. All of my users are running 10.7, and with the latest patch, they can all log into the Domain without any issue. The problem is that their Home directory in the dock is displayed as a question mark. I'm guessing I'm missing something in the configuration, but everything looks right. Anyone have the 411 about how to set up a Mac user to map a Home directory to a network share on a Wiindows 2008 AD network?

Just got a Mac Pro with a single 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Xeon (Nehalem) and it's all working fine, but I'm wondering why this 4-core machine shows 8 cores in Activity Monitor - 8 columns in both the floating CPU windows.
I'm sure the answer's obvious, but it's late in the evening and I did search around the forum threads a little bit before posting.
I'm using a 2009 model MacBook with 4GB of RAM and a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo Processor. I've been having issues for quite a while now where even with just ONE program active, it will often lag, slow WAY down, or even flat out crash. Upon further inspection in the Activity Monitor, I discovered that the vast majority of the computer's memory -- at least 80% and up -- is marked as idle.
First: What does this mean?
Second: Is there any thing that can be done about the stated issues?
My 27" has one speck of dust in the corner. I spoke with local Apple repair shop and they'll take care of it "provided no indications of tampering are detected". Other possible dings not detected, so I got away relatively light. I wouldn't worry about it normally, but it'll have to be mentioned at sale time three years down the road, and the price will take a hit if I leave it there.
