I had talked with the manager a week ago when I bought my unibody and he had assured me that I didn't have to wait because if there was a change within 2 weeks he would waive the return fee if I decided to change for another laptop. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my MacBook for 6 months and it has worked just great with my WiFi network and any other WiFi I have happened to connect it to. This morning, while I was downloading some files, my internet connection died on me. At 1st I thought it was my provider and I usually fix that by restarting my Router. I did that, but nothing happened. I could detect and connect to my WiFi but I had no internet access! My wife's PC and mobile phone connect perfectly well to my WiFi and so does my iPhone!!! My MacBook now only works with Ethernet. Let me add that I have the 13.3" MacBook unibody running the latest Leopard 10.5.8. software upgrades.

View 3 Replies View RelatedComing from MS Outlook, I used to be able to code the status of calendar entries as "Busy," "Free," "Tentative," and "Out of Office." It seems iCal only has Busy and Free. At the very least, is there a way to add Tentative to the list if not Out of Office as well?
Since I use iCal for my business I have tons of meetings which are constantly being added, then moved and sometimes dropped. I'd really like to be able to put things as tentative.
I have purchased numerous films to watch via apple TV (original model), only to find that I am now out of disc space. I have a time capsule, but how can I store the movies yet access them on apple tv?

Hi all, I have two Powerbook G4 laptops. Both have very similar problems. When I try to start up, the grey screen with the apple and spinning wheel appears, but I can't get beyond that. If I walk away for an hour, when I come back there will still be a grey screen with apple and spinning wheel.
I admit I know little about this sort of thing, so I began poking around online for solutions. I tried Tech Tool Deluxe. Inserted the disk and held down "C," but again it never progressed beyond the grey screen with apple and spinning wheel. Most frustrating. Is there any other way of running the disk with the laptop?
Entering the terminal yielded slightly different results on each machine.

I tried plugging both latops into my desktop in target mode. In both cases the target icon appeared on the laptop screen but the hard drive icon never appeared on the desktop screen. I would love to at least retrieve a few files off each machine, if nothing else.
Are there any processes, such as updates or App store downloads, that would cause the serial number to be automatically collected? Does the serial number ever get sent to Apple without explicitly entering it? I ask because I am interested in privacy.

I am unable to access a website on my macbook (which I used to be able to access) that I am able to access using my iPad and IPhone. I have cleared my history, caches, and everything else I can find. Using a G4 IBOOK with OS 10.5.8. Recently converted IBOOK from just my wifes computer to both of us so it is now dual usuage with both of us signing in to our respective files/e-mail, etc. My side has a problem never experienced before. My apple mail system address book has all the names the dock address book does but is missing almost 2/3rd of the actual e-mail addressess. I have tried to redo the dock address book in hopes it would change the "internal" mail book, but to no avail. It id difficult to add a recipient to an outgoing e-mail via the dock address instead of the apple mail address book.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI run 10.6.8 server in a VM with Parallels Server for Mac. Lithium pinged me early Monday morning to tell me that my calendar server wasn't reachable. I found it had kernel panicked. After resetting it and verifying the directory structure and permissions, it booted fine. But availability or free/busy wasn't working for all users! The events were all there. Invites could be sent and received but when a user checks for availability when creating events. they see the daily work hours grayed out but not anything corresponding to a scheduling conflict. Â
Things I have Tried:
- bounced ical server
- Rebooted the server
- checked the owners and permissions for the data store hierarchy. (_calendar:_calendar 750)
- checked for xattrs on .ics files in several calendars
- deleted .db.sqlite for several users in several dir in their calendar stores
- in the past I have found that some iTIP invitations seem to get "stuck' causing problems with an individual users free/busy and deleting the inbox resolves this so I deleted several inboxes
-I moved a copy of the data store to a test server and pointed several clients at it.Â
The issue persisted in all of these cases without any change in behavior with one exception; somewhere (i lost track of where) during this process users also lost their delegation preferences. I'd love to find out how and where that is stored so that it can be restored in the future. It seems pretty fragile...Â
I found one way to restore the functionality; copying a users __uid__/<GUID>/calendar out. . Moving all the folders under <GUID> out of the way and dropping the .ics files into ical with their account configured in that instance. Although this worked for selected users, I have many, many users and calendars so this solution would be suboptimal. Â

I bought this iMac which was purchased new Nov 24th 2011 and I bought it from a friend in January 2012 as well as purchased the applecare. When I did a clean install it removed the iLife bundle and when I try to reinstall it the app store tells me this: These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications.I would not have done the clean install if I knew that it would take away some of the features but when the Apple employee told me how to do it he didnt tell me that some items would not reinstall without the original Apple ID (not that I blame him).Is there any way that I can get them back on my computer without having to purchase them. I think that since they came with the computer originally that it should be possible.

View 6 Replies View RelatedProblem: My Mac goes in to have a part replaced at the Genius Bar tomorrow and I have sensitive files on my computer for work that I can't allow anyone to look at. The tricky part is, Apple needs a log-in account on my Mac with Administrator access so they can run diagnostics. Problem is, even if I restrict the account I created called "Apple" to not be able to open certain files, since the log-in account "Apple" is an administrator account, all they have to do is click "Get Info" on the folder, click the padlock, and change the settings I put in place.
Is there any way to restrict access of another administrator account on my Mac? If so, how do you do it? I want to be able to essentially allow the administrator account "Apple" no access to my user files in my home folder.
My daughter has a lot of music purchased from iTunes when the username on her Apple ID was only one word. She has created an email username for an Apple ID and would like to setup iCloud, but she is afraid that she will not be able to access the music purchased with her old ID.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have just started my phd and am looking for a portable laptop. my requirements are pretty basic - lots of word processing, music, movies, and of course internet. maybe some photo editing. now first, i am a little mixed up if i should go for the macbook pro (basic 13 inch) or the newly launched macbook air (13 inch basic). pro is more powerful and cheaper than air. but then air is lighter and also has the faster flash memory! on the other hand, i am tempted to go for an SSD option with the pro. the price goes up of course by 315 $ or so. but in a way then the system could last me for a very long time given that the new polymer batteries last 3 times than normal ones. and its really the batteries/HDD that get worn out first.
on the other hand i am a little wary of SSD technology. it seems that the old HDD's are not that bad, and have some advantages over the SSD's. an internet search reveals that the 1st generation SSD's had a lot of problems. so does apple now use 1st generation ones or newer ones? moreover, is the SSD option more reliable or the flash drive one (with air)? basically am ready to invest a big amount provided i am assured that the system will last me for a long time to come.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro that is approximately 2 years old. It has always worked fine without any issues at all. Tonight I was installing some scanner software for a Fujitsu S300M scanner. After installing the software it asked me to reboot so I had reboot. At that time I came back a minute later to see just a black screen. I then after a couple more minutes decided to hold down the power button and turn off the power since nothing was happening.
I then pressed the button again and I saw the light turn on on the button that opens the screen but that is all. There was no startup chime, nothing. All I could hear is at the same time the light came on the optical drive makes it's noise that it makes at bootup. I have tried repeatly to start the computer. I have pulled both the AC Power and Battery for several minutes with still no luck. As I said just the light comes on and the optical drive makes noise and that's it, no startup chime, nothing. I don't think this should be related to scanner software and I'm assuming it was a coincidence that it happened then but any idea what could be causing this and can I fix it without a trip to the genius bar?

First, when charging my Mac at night in off-mode, it will occasionally turn itself on at some point evidenced by the power-on when it's opened. Then,I have had one instance of a shut-down by itself during use. It restarted w/ no problem. Next, the computer turned itself on with the cover closed and the computer had been off all night. I heard it start up, so I am sure. I do have AppleCare if I need to take it in.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook that was given the ol beer in the keyboard treatment and went dark with a ghost image, before I bought it, leading me to believe that it was the inverter board had blown, I bought one online and replaced it but to no avail. The previous owner obviously had very little knowledge as they left a few screws out on reassembly but I don't think they should matter a lot. I could of course use it with an external monitor but kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop. So would like to get the display working without having to buy a new display. I cannot seem to find out if it is possible to replace the backlight, if this is the problem, or to find one for sale online, even on the excellent ifixit site. It is a 2Ghz intel core 2 duo.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel based Macbook pro. I have an old Thinkpad T20 with XP Pro acting as a print server. My printer is an HP PSC 1350. I also have another laptop with XP on it. My wife uses her PC laptop and I'm using the Mac. She can print wirelessly to the PSC1350 no problem. I have downloaded and installed the hpjis, Foomatic-RIP, and Ghostscript in order to get the driver for the HP printer. The 1350 isn't on the list, but the 1300 and the 1400 is so probably close enough. I can see my printer on the network from the MacBook and I load it, etc...
When I go to print, the file goes into the queue, the printer fires up, prepares to take the paper, and then stops. Going to the XP laptop acting as the server - the file is shown in the queue and says Printing, but it's stopped. I have to manually remove the file from the queue from the spool directory to clear it. Has anyone ever been able to get the HP PSC 1350 to print from a MacBook through an XP server?
