Intel Mac :: Firewire 400 Ports Have Stopped Functioning?
Apr 3, 2012
My fire wire 400 ports have stopped functioning, and my 800 is now having problems....I'm getting a protools message telling me there is a problem with my firewire.
I've bought new Thunderbold 27' display and connected it as a second screen to my iMac. Video works fine but I've just discovered that all ports of that display are not functioning, i.e. USB ports are not working, and I can't see its camera and speakers from my iMac. Is it possible somehow to get it working? Especially USB would be very wonderful.
My usb ports in my c2d macbook don' t seem to be working. When I plug in my digital camera (sony) or itunes phone (motorola), nothing happens. I tried both of these devices on my 2 old powerbooks and they sync fine. Anyway I can check whether my macbook usb ports are functioning?
I recently replaced the video card on my G4 and now the USB ports on the back of my apple studio display are no longer functioning, but the monitor itself is functioning just fine. The USB ports on the tower are functioning normally.

For some strange reason the dictionary screensaver in my version of snow leopard stopped functioning. All I see now when it slips into screensaver mode is "Quartz Composer". I can't even find the dictionary option in the screensaver settings anymore. I'm scratching my head on this one.
Just updated to lion and my cctv access has stopped functioning all I get is a white screen in the middle of the control panel where the camera shots should be. I think it is caused by JAVA but am confused as when i view on snow leopard it works
I have a aluminum iMac, which has been working fine until now. A couple of hours ago I restarted it and went and did something else for a couple of hours. I then came back to find my keyboard and mouse not working, I double checked and they were both plugged in fine (I use the aluminum apple keyboard and a kensington mouse). I restarted my computer but it still did not fix the problem (I was still stuck at the login screen). I thought it might be the USB, so I plugged my iPod in, and it did not charge. While my iPod was still connected to my computer I restarted it again and as soon as the screen turned grey my iPod started charging and my mouse worked (the light turned on), but only until the grey apple logo appeared and it then stopped working again. I have tried every USB slot and none of them work. I'm pretty sure my computer was completely updated as well.
I have a 2006 Mac Pro and recently my firewire ports stopped working (front and back). I did a little searching around found a suggestion to try resetting the Mac's PRAM and NVRAM by holding the Cmd-Option-P-R keys down while booting. I have tried this numerous times and it doesn't seem to do anything (i.e. the Mac just loads OS X and doesn't re-boot like the instructions say). I'm using a MS Wireless Comfort Keyboard for Mac. Can you reset using a wireless keyboard?
Since I wasn't making any progress with that, I was toying with bringing in the Mac to a genius bar. Never having used the genius bar before - how does it work? Do I bring the computer in and leave it with them? Do they work on it while I'm there? I don't have an extended warranty so do they charge time and materials? I'm wondering if that might get awfully expensive and if I ought to just buy a PCI-X firewire card instead.

My updates of Flashplayer and Silverlight are not working. They worked as of yesterday morning, but by afternoon said I needed to update both, and now it is not allowing me to watch any type of videos/media on internet.
I recently purchased a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter and 30' HDMI cable to connect my iMac to my 42" Panasonic TV. It worked at first, and then suddenly didn't. I believe I upgraded from OS 10.6.7 to 10.6.8 in between it working and not, could that be the problem? I know the problem is not the cable as I tested it with my XBOX. I don't have a way of telling whether or not it is the adapter itself though though. When it plug it in, there is no blue screen on the iMac like there was at first. When I click 'Detect Displays' nothing happens.

How do I get my imac to recognized the 4G memory upgrade I just inserted (from 2G factory)? It isn't running faster and the "about this mac" still says 2G.
Info: iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), Vintage 2008 imac
I have a late 2009 21' IMac. it has 4 ports for ram 2 of them has 2GB in each. can I put 4GB in each of the two remaining ports? or does it need to stay consistent ??Â
I purchased one of these (model MC511LL/A) on Ebay. It has not yet arrived. The seller posted a canned Ebay description of the model touting the 2 Thunderbolt ports, yet Apple's official specs page does not show this model as yet having Thunderbolt, which does not show up in the iMacs until the 2011 models. Is it possible that some of the mid-2010 models shipped with Thunderbolt ports?
I'm looking to run video out to two TVs, but it's over a decent distance, so I'm worried that using an HDMI splitter would cut the signal and suffer quality loss. I was wondering if both mini DisplayPorts can be linked to output the same signal at the same time, so that both TVs can show the same thing but each signal is at full force.Â
i have already tried going to system preferences, and the internal speakers are located, connected, and should work. the display that shows up when the volume switches looks the same as when they DID work, but no tone sounds when i switch the volume.
Ok the computer stopped working while surfing the net. Now it powers up gives a chime followed by the globe and then the apple. That's it then I get the working spinning wheel and that's it.
My mail stopped loading 3 days ago on my 4 week old imac. Connection doctor says I'm connected with all my accounts, and I can get my mail on my ipad and iphone. I can send mail from my computer, but can't receive any.Â
My "Caps Lock" key stopped functioning. Will not respond under the Keyboard Viewer either, though all the other keys do. Light will not come on, so I have to use the Shift key for each letter that I want to type in capital letters. I cannot find any on/off switches for that key under Help, or in System Preferences. Did I hit a key combinations somehow, that deactivated the Caps Lock Key? I have the bluetooth keyboard that came with my i7 IMAC.

I noticed yesterday that when I opened mail, it kept trying to get mail off the sever even though everything downloaded. Today when I open I just get the colored wheel and I must force quit everytime.Â
