How can I find the port names for the 4 USB ports on the iMac?

iTunes has been unable to find the track names for a number of CD's I've recently tried to import. Some of them are on the iTunes store too. Each time I try it says "No error". Once it said "this user is not authorised for online use" but that stopped when I quit iTunes and restarted. Should I delete the app then reinstall?

I just got my new Mac Pro and I'm trying to install some extra drives to it. I've read about the unused SATA ports on the motherboard but I can't seem to find them. I tried searching but I had no luck. Anyone know where they are and how I can access them easily?

Until now there hasn't been any problems using the FireWire, but now it just deny any knowledge of it, so to speak. The audio device lights up when I connect it to the MBP (yes, I did connect it when in off-mode), so it seems to work in a way.

edit: the reason I'm wondering is because I want to convert old collections of vinyl records into digital copies at the highest quality possible and need to know if the 'line in' on the 13" will work good for that.

defaults write com.apple.finder FXDesktopLayoutGridCharCount 50; killall FinderÂ
This works great, but only for OS 10.5 – 10.6. So is seeing more than 20 characters in a folder name even possible in OS 10.7.4?Â

Apparently, a mini displayport to HDMI can do audio without additional cables if the version is new enough (2.0 I think). How do I find out the version of my Macbook's mini displayport? It's not listed in System Profiler in any place I can find. Also, does it matter what version OS I'm using? I'm still at 10.6.8.Â

I recently added new names with their email addresses in "Address Book" - picked the Group I wanted and then clicked the + sign under Names and entered the info in the space to the right. I had already created a mailbox for each name and had gone through Mailbox-Preferences-Rules to have emails from or to routed to the correct boxes [which it did when I clicked on "Apply" at the end of this process]. All this to show what I did prior to choosing "New Message" in Email. When I got the blank email page, I clicked on the Address Book icon above to retrieve the address I wanted and only the names of the people I had entered were displayed, NOT their email addresses.  I then restarted the computer - still the same. How do I get the addresses to show up?

I purchased one of these (model MC511LL/A) on Ebay. It has not yet arrived. The seller posted a canned Ebay description of the model touting the 2 Thunderbolt ports, yet Apple's official specs page does not show this model as yet having Thunderbolt, which does not show up in the iMacs until the 2011 models. Is it possible that some of the mid-2010 models shipped with Thunderbolt ports?

I've bought new Thunderbold 27' display and connected it as a second screen to my iMac. Video works fine but I've just discovered that all ports of that display are not functioning, i.e. USB ports are not working, and I can't see its camera and speakers from my iMac. Is it possible somehow to get it working? Especially USB would be very wonderful.

I'm looking to run video out to two TVs, but it's over a decent distance, so I'm worried that using an HDMI splitter would cut the signal and suffer quality loss. I was wondering if both mini DisplayPorts can be linked to output the same signal at the same time, so that both TVs can show the same thing but each signal is at full force.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedTell me if it makes sense. Since the current MiniDisplay Port adapters are NOT bidirectional and we need a bidirectional cable to make the PS3 display on the iMac, I was wondering if I purchased that new bidirectional cable by Belkin that it is advertised to let you use your iMac's screen with your MacBook Pro and then buy a female minidisplay port to female HDMI.
Would that work? It makes sense right?
Where can I find a FEMALE MiniDisplay Port to FEMALE HDMI adapter? I have searched and can't seem to find one.
I've connected this camera hundreds of times in the past. But now it says"A USB is attached that is drawing too much current. The hub to which it is attached will be deactivated."

It WAS working. I'd bought an iomega fw drive with usb and fw800 ports. I hooked up the drive and it worked and then suddenly I got the message that a drive had been ejected improperly. The fw800 port never worked again -- with any drive or any cable. My apple care has run out. (I've tried these cables and drives on another computer.Â

I purchased a mini display port to HDMI. I attached the HDMI end into the back of my TV in the HDMI input 2 section. Then I attached the other end of the mini display port into the back of my IMac desktop. Nothing is happening. I went online to follow directions which told me to go into my 'System Preferences', then click 'Display' and then click the 'Arrangements' tab that would appear. However no arrangements tab appears. Did I buy the right cord?Â
