I'm wanting to connect my DV Camera and an External Firewire HDD to my mini. I really only need two firewire ports: one for the camera and one to daisychain any further Firewire HDD. This is all in aid of being able to digitize HD Tape footage with the mini using FCP so I can do all the editing etc of the Mac Pro. I've found a few online such as:The Belkin Firewire 6 Port Hub, Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and Firewire 6 Port Hub and the 1Lynx 800 Advanced Firewire Hub (99MO018202).The stackable Belkins look great

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a MacBook (13.3", 2GHz, 160GB, 2GB Aluminum, Late 2008)on ebay and at first the usb ports seemed temperamental. Now they only recognize my mouse and no other hardware (camera, usb stick etc). (It is running snow leopard.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a really weird question, but here'goes: I just got my internal blu-ray burner. I hooked it up, removing the fans and all that jazz to get the SATA cable plugged in. Turned on the computer, and the drive was not recognized.
I know it has power, since I can operate it manually (but no disks inserted are recognized in System Profiler nor Toast). Oh, and in the System Profiler under Serial-ATA it does list 6 ports (though 2 with hard drives, 1 and 4-6 are empty).
I fiddled around, made sure cables were plugged in, still nothing.
Then I tried to just plug in one of my extra internal hard drives through the connectors I was using for the 2nd optical drive (power and SATA cable). It won't recognize the hard drive (doesn't seem to even know it's there).
I'm looking to run video out to two TVs, but it's over a decent distance, so I'm worried that using an HDMI splitter would cut the signal and suffer quality loss. I was wondering if both mini DisplayPorts can be linked to output the same signal at the same time, so that both TVs can show the same thing but each signal is at full force.

I get this strange message every so often, sometimes more often than other times. It says:
USB port drawing too much power. The device that is plugged into it will be deactivated.
There are only two things plugged into the USB-The keyboard and mouse. When I get this message, the mouse freezes. If I jiggle the mouse cable where it is plugged into the USB, it comes back and everything is fine until this message comes up again.
I just bought a 320gb Western Digital MyBook Premium edition external hard drive. My issue is that my PowerBook will only recognize the drive if I have it plugged in via USB. I want to use firewire but its not working. What can I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHere's my puzzler of the moment: I have a Creative USB headset (the Fatal1ty gaming headset for Mac, which I bought at an Apple store). It's been working fine via USB (with the notable exception that it stops working easily if even slightly jostled).
In the last few days, however, it stopped working when plugged directly into the Mac. The audio out still works, and it shows up as an audio input device, but when selected it does not detect any incoming audio.
I assumed it was a headset problem until I tested it plugged into a USB hub - plugged into the hub, it works fine.
My Macbook Pro will not recognise my iphone 5s when I plug it in with a USB cable, yet using the same cable with my ipad it is fine. (Also iphoto will not recognise the phone)

I own 2 iMacs. One uses a Magic Mouse, the other Magic Trackpad. I'd like to swap usage, but neither device will "discover" the new device to swap, and obviously I don't want to disconnect the existing one first because I'd lose control. The Bluetooth Preference panel just shows spinning wheel next to Device in the title, but never discovers the added device..

I just got an iMac that had iTunes on it. When I plugged my iphone in it would just ask if I trust this computer. I said yes and there was no icon that recognized the device. Now, I just have a iTunes icon in the dock that will just bounce once when it is clicked. I have a 10.8.6 version. Do I need to find a new iTunes donload? Do I send the iTunes to the trash? Also, this did not come with the disk.

I have a 21.5" late 2009 iMac with thunderbolt 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Nvidia GeForce 9400 256MB, running OS X 10.8.5
Brought a new 4TB thunderbolt G-Drive. And, my iMac doesn't see it and the hard drive doesn't even power up. Tested at Apple before I brought it home.
I have had several issues with the USB on my brand-new Core i5 macbook pro. It randomly disconnects USB devices. I've had the issue with multiple USB devices - same story with each one. Further, iTunes will only recognize my iPhone if it is in the port nearest the magsafe connector. The other port fails to recognize my iPhone entirely. Anyone else having a USB issue on their base 15" that was released today?
Furthermore, any suggestions of what to do about it? I'm having a hell of a time restoring my iPhone with this issue... And the Apple Store is over an hour away-I planned a special trip to buy this laptop.
I have a mid-2010 iMac. Recently, it has failed to mount DVDs, either video or data, on a reliable basis. I have been able to work around it by restarting my iMac, but that doesn't always work.

Using Migration Assistant, I'm trying to transfer back-up files (whole system) from my Western Digital, External HDD to a new-to-me iMac which I've just purchased used. The External HDD has all my files (hopefully!) from my recently stolen iMac. As you can imagine, the circumstances are a bit unexpected and unsettling.
I've followed Apple's instructions for using MA with an external drive, but get hung up like others before me when it comes time for my new (used) computer to locate the disc from which to transfer the files. I've read the replies to others who have posted with similar difficulties using Snow Leopard, but resolving the issue seems to be just out of reach.
Original computer is now unavailable (stolen); it last ran on Snow Leopard, 10.6.3 to 6.8.New computer is used, and also runs on 10.6.8.Both computers are iMac 2009, tho slightly different versions, if that has any bearing on things.I created a temporary account on my new-to-me computer to make the data transfer, so that there wouldn't be an accounts conflict, as others have suggested.Western Digital External HDD, "My Book, Studio Edition," 1TB. I'm using the FireWire 800 port on the iMac. If I need to erase the hard drive on my "new" computer, I'll need a little instruction and hand-holding on that one.

View 2 Replies View Relatedwould it be possible to solder any wires to get power onto the USB ports on a G3 iMac? I have a blue 500Mhz model, if that would make any difference. the reason that I want to do this is because all of the iPods use USB now, and I would like to be able to charge mine while I am syncing it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHi, i have a 24" intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz imac aluminum 1 gb ram.
I first noticed this problem when i plugged in my ipod, it would not open itunes, appear in itunes, the desktop or finder. i managed to resolve this problem by reinstalling itunes and plugging in my ipod before i turned on the computer, but i can not change anything as it gets stuck while syncing with my ipod and says that my ipod is disconnected, i reconnect but the ipod not not appear on the screen.
I occasionally have trouble charging my iPhone via my iMac USB ports. I plug in the iPhone, the screen indicators change to show that the phone is charging (green battery indicator and the lightning bolt symbol). However, when I come back to the phone several hours later, the charge indicator hasn't advanced any. For example, if the indicator showed half-full when I plugged it in, it remains half-full.
The iMac does go to sleep a few minutes after I leave it, but sleep has never precluded an iPhone battery charge on my MacBook, and most of the time it works on the iMac.
Is there anything, besides shutting down a computer, that causes a USB port to unpower while the iMac is sleeping? Does it matter whether I am logged in or simply at the login screen?
I recently went away for the weekend and when I came back my USB ports don't work. When I first start my 24" iMac the mouse lights up but then goes off later on when it's booting up. I really don't know what to do and i'm not even sure if I got any discs with my iMac as it had Leopard preloaded...

I have a aluminum iMac, which has been working fine until now. A couple of hours ago I restarted it and went and did something else for a couple of hours. I then came back to find my keyboard and mouse not working, I double checked and they were both plugged in fine (I use the aluminum apple keyboard and a kensington mouse). I restarted my computer but it still did not fix the problem (I was still stuck at the login screen). I thought it might be the USB, so I plugged my iPod in, and it did not charge. While my iPod was still connected to my computer I restarted it again and as soon as the screen turned grey my iPod started charging and my mouse worked (the light turned on), but only until the grey apple logo appeared and it then stopped working again. I have tried every USB slot and none of them work. I'm pretty sure my computer was completely updated as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently I changed my 4-port USB hub for a 7-port hub. Now 2 USB ports are dead, and the third port will only accept self-powered devices, such as external drives, a printer, or memory sticks. I dare not plug in a hub, so I am faced with a lot of plug-swapping.
