I have a Casio CTK 720 Kayboard with Midi USB connection. It worked fine until a few days ago and then stopped being recognized. I have redownloaded the Midi Driver, still doesn't show up. It shows up in Audio but doesn't activate keys when in Garageband.

Intel Mac :: Computer Won't Recognize New Keyboard?

Apr 1, 2012

I just blew out my old tiny keyboard that came with my iMac.  I went out today and bought a new full sized keyboard from Best Buy with the alphanumeric keys.  I followed the instructions which read:  Setting up your keyboardPlug the USB cable from your keyboard into an available USB port on your MacChoose Apple>Software Update from the menu bar and follow the onscreen instructions. When installation is complete and you've restarted you Mac, use Software Update again to make sure all of the available updates are installed.

I followed these instructions, and the best that I got told is that my iTunes was out of date, which I updated.  My keynboard is working (obviously, I was able to post this),  but it isn't recognizing the new placement of the volume buttons and such.

Mac Pro :: MP 2008 Won't Recognize 2 Extra SATA Ports?

Aug 13, 2009

This is a really weird question, but here'goes: I just got my internal blu-ray burner. I hooked it up, removing the fans and all that jazz to get the SATA cable plugged in. Turned on the computer, and the drive was not recognized.

I know it has power, since I can operate it manually (but no disks inserted are recognized in System Profiler nor Toast). Oh, and in the System Profiler under Serial-ATA it does list 6 ports (though 2 with hard drives, 1 and 4-6 are empty).

I fiddled around, made sure cables were plugged in, still nothing.

Then I tried to just plug in one of my extra internal hard drives through the connectors I was using for the 2nd optical drive (power and SATA cable). It won't recognize the hard drive (doesn't seem to even know it's there).

Applications :: Garage Band Midi Keyboard

Jun 20, 2006

I have a cheap little usb keyboard that I use in Garageband. It sounds great but I have a problem doing drums with it. It seems that the bass drum is lower than my keyboard allows me to go. Is there any way of changing the octaves that a keyboard controls so I could lower down to the bass drum? I found the bass using the software keyboard but it is just a few notes lower than my keyboard goes.

Applications :: Garageband & MIDI Controller - Software Instruments With The Keyboard?

Mar 15, 2009

I have only just got a MIDI keyboard conencted via USB to control the software instruments on Garageband. The only problem I am finding is if I say, sample some drums, I can only play them back by manually placing them in the chord orchestrator.
What I basically need/want is to control the track (the part on the left) by a single press on the keyboard; so if I wanted 2 kicks to sound, I'd press the key twice. But at the moment it's just not registering at all, and only allows me to play the stock software instruments with the keyboard

Applications :: Logic Express 9 With Midi Keyboard And Drum Machine

Feb 3, 2010

I have a yamaha mm6 keyboard which I have connected to my mac using midi, in logic express it shows that it is detecting the notes, yet nothing plays through the laptop speakers! I am selecting external midi when I make a new track btw. If I record something it even shows the notes as I play, but no sound. I want to use the instruments on the keyboard but don't know how to do this. Also I have a boss dr 670 drum machine and I can't get that to work at all in logic, the keyboard worked if I used a software instrument in logic. I want to also use the drums from the machine and things like it's quantizing, but I can't get logic to pick it up at all.

Applications :: Logic Express 9 Not Sending MIDI Data To External MIDI Devices?

Mar 13, 2010

I just recently purchased Logic Express 9. I am having difficulty getting the application to play my external MIDI gear.

I selected the appropriate track type (external MIDI), then selected from the library a MIDI device and channel. Logic sees the MIDI devices that I configured through Apple's "Audio/MIDI interface app".

This is my setup

Logic Express is installed on an iMac with 4GB Memory running the latest version of MAC OS 10.x Snow Leopard.

Im using a Motu Fastlane 2x2 MIDI Interface with Motus latest driver installed.

Connected to the Port A input of the Fastlane is a Yamaha P-80 that I am using as a MIDI controller and whose sounds I also want to use. Connected to the two output MIDI ports of the Fastlane are the Yamaha P-80 and a Roland JD990 MIDI synth module. In are correctly routed to outs and vice versa.

The Fastlane is recognized by the MAC computer. Also Logic Express sees the instruments I configured within the Apples Audio/MIDI interface app.

I am able to use the P-80 keyboard to record MIDI data to Logic Express for either an internal instrument track or an external MIDI track. The soft synths in the internal tracks play with no problem. For an External MIDI track, I see the data in the Piano roll view. When I play the track, no sound comes out but I see the output MIDI data indicated at the bottom of the arrangement window. Also my external MIDI gears audio outs are patched into an audio mixer connected to powered monitor speakers. So I would definitely hear the devices if they were receiving MIDI information. The MIDI indicator lights on the external devices are not flashing when Logic is playing back the data.

So obviously I have an output communication issue. Either something is not set properly within the Logic software or the Audio/MIDI interface app.

When I open up the Audio/MIDI interface app and click on test. I am able to here the tone when I press the keyboard which indicates the Motu Interface is receiving data from the keyboard. However, when I click on the ports output arrow that is supposed to send a tone to the MIDI instruments, I hear nothing which is consistent with what is happening within Logic.

I know the Motu Fastlane works because I used it for a long time in a Windows based system. I have checked each wire and they check out as well. I have checked and double checked each connection and they are set properly. At this point, I am not sure what to do to correct this problem.

OS X :: Keyboard USB Ports Useless After Latest Upgrade?

Aug 20, 2010

Has anyone else experienced problems with the USB ports on a wired keyboard since you installed the latest Apple system update? After I ran the update, the keyboard USB ports are getting just 100 mA total; they can't even power a simple flash drive anymore.

I searched the Apple forums and noticed several users complaining about the same thing. The update seems to have made the keyboard USB ports absolutely useless.

I'd love to see CNET look into this; and if the underpowered ports are a common issue, I hope enough people complain for Apple to acknowledge the error and fix this in a subsequent update.

IMac :: Went Back To Wired Keyboard - USB Ports Not Easily Accessible

Dec 13, 2010

Last month, I upgraded to the new 21.5 inch IMac from an older IMac and I really have loved the cpu/gpu improvements. However, I have never liked the bluetooth keyboard - namely, the lack of easily accessible usb ports. Not having those two usb ports on the keyboard is equivalent to the old-style pc towers that had the usb ports only in the back. It just doesn't make sense. With the bluetooth keyboard, I found myself always reaching around to the back of the imac body. So I went back to the wired keyboard.

The only way to fix this is to unplug and replug in the peripherals. He also tried on his Studio Display connected via ADC and the same thing happens. Could a PCI USB card help his problems or is there some way to fix the current USB ports?

PowerPC :: IMac G5 Doesn't Recognize BT Keyboard

Aug 12, 2006

Have a iMac G5 with built in BT. I used it downstairs yesterday and took it back to the spare room where it usually is used. Fired it up today and I find that the BT mouse is fine BUT it ignores the keyboard. I tried; Replacing batteries. Checked that the suspect keyboard worked on my mac mini (it did). Tried my other BT keyboard on the iMac same problem. So, why does it recognise the mouse but not the keyboard? I do not have a USB Keyboard, so now I cannot Log in to fix it! I am guessing that the pairing has gone BUT surely it would simply see the keyboard as a new one and start setting it up. Something is stopping keyboards working with BT, very strange - could a loose BT module cause this? Or will I have to buy a USB Keyboard now to use my iMac?

Safari :: Get It To Recognize Changed Keyboard Shortcuts?

May 31, 2012

I am trying to setup a simple, memorable keyboard shortcut for switching between tabs (a useful feature that I wish Safari made easier).  I wanted to do option+arrow key. So I sent to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts and created the shortcut.

The new shortcut shows up in Safari when I drop down the Window menu, but the shortcut doesn't actually work.  When I hit option+L or R arrow key, the window does not switch to the next or previous tab. I even went back to Keyboard Shorcuts in System Preferences and created another "All Applications" shortcut with the same command. It still doesn't work.

Mac Mini :: It Will Not Recognize Keyboard Commands On Boot

Jun 2, 2012

I have a Mac Mini 2006 with Core Duo 1.66Ghz and an 80GB HDD. I use this computer as a Media Centre PC (not really nesecarry information). The 80GB hard drive has died in this machine. I know this because I took the drive out, formatted it, reinstalled it in the mini and attempted to install snow leopard from a boot disk. It gets to about 60% and then throws an error - clearly the drive is about to die.

In my wisdom, I opened the Mini up and replaced the hard drive with a drive from an old (but dead) windows laptop. When I did so and rebooted, I connected a USB keyboard and held down the option key on boot to boot into startup screen (to select the the boot disk I had made). The SL boot disk on a USB key which is recognised when I boot it on another mac. The mini seems not to recognise the keyboard input when holding down the option key. The mac booted straight into Windows which was on the new drive. It booted into the windows "windows did not boot correctly last time, do you want to start up in startup mode?) screen. The keyboard inputs were also not recognized on this screen.

I thought that there may have been an error because windows was on the drive, so I scrubbed the drive and re-installed it as a completely blank drive in the Mini. Again attempted to get to the startup screen and again the same problem. Only this time I am getting a flashing folder with a question mark (meaning the mini cannot detect any bootable drive presumably). The USB stick is flashing, but to me the Mini cannot recognize the keyboard input from the connected keyboard. Could the USB ports have somehow been damaged? Also through this process, I have reset the P-RAM on the mini as well.

MacBook :: Laptop Doesn't Recognize External Keyboard And Mouse

It was to do a PRAM reset 3 times and when I do this the keyboard and mouse work fine. But when I disconnect the mouse and keyboard and then later reconnect it will not recognize them. I have repeated the PRAM reset 3 times each time this has happened (4 times) and they work fine but then there is always a problem when I disconnect and reconnect.
