I recently replaced the video card on my G4 and now the USB ports on the back of my apple studio display are no longer functioning, but the monitor itself is functioning just fine. The USB ports on the tower are functioning normally.

I've bought new Thunderbold 27' display and connected it as a second screen to my iMac. Video works fine but I've just discovered that all ports of that display are not functioning, i.e. USB ports are not working, and I can't see its camera and speakers from my iMac. Is it possible somehow to get it working? Especially USB would be very wonderful.

I just got a new MacBook Pro and 24-inch LED Cinema Display. I was planning on using one of the USB ports on the back of the display to connect a 1 Tb WD My Book drive as Time Machine backup. I've managed the first backup and everything seemed to be working fine, but occasionally when I wake the computer from sleeping I get an error saying that I disconnected my drive without ejecting it. Nothing has been disconnected, so I'm worried that the USB ports don't stay powered on when monitor/computer sleep, or that there is some other issue using a USB peripheral that is for all intents and purposes plugged into another USB peripheral. Has anyone else had these issues? I'd rather keep things connected the way they are right now- I have 4-5 other external drives I need to access on a regular basis, so going directly into the USB on my MacBook isn't an appealing option.

I have a problem on my 2011 Macbook Pro with OS X Lion on it. One of the problems is that since I have updated to the latest software updates as Apple recommends, I have noticed that copy and paste no longer functions. I used the keyboard shortcut of command + c to copy but no longer does OS X paste now with the use of command + v. I tried also to the the trackpad in highlighting, double clicking and select copy and then paste it still doesn't work and is so frustrating. Don't know what to do now.

I recently noticed the 'play/pause' key on my keyboard no longer plays or pauses media while in iTunes. The 'fast forward and backward' buttons do not work as well. The buttons also do not work with other media programs (such as VLC) where they previously had. I cannot think of anything I have recently done to turn these keys off.

Mail 4.5 started to get wonky a couple of days ago- taking forever to load. All of the the imap server began rejecting my password which had not changed for months. So I retyped it. Nothing. Quite mail and restarted mail. Nothing. Deleted the account, restarted & reloaded. Nothing. Restarted the machine. Launched Mail, nothing. Check for updates, nothing. Can login directly to iCloud and works fine on my iOS devices but nothing on good ole' mail. Â

The Monitor was brand new so I did not figure it to be broken I checked the monitor on another computer and it worked great. From what I understand this is a common internal problem on the G4.

I am testing a Dell 17'' on it right now before I open the LG one, but my problem is that the same screen shows on my ibook and the external. This isn't what I want. I have read you are supposed to be able to close the laptop and then it shifts to the external display but this is not working for me.
This is my goal:
Use my bluetooth keyboard full time
Have my ibook closed at all times
Have my external as my main display
How do I make this work?
My friend has a PowerBook G4 and he wants to connect it with an external 20" Apple Cinema display. His friend told him it was not possible to connect it, but I am not certain if this information is correct. He asked me to help advise him on this, but unfortunately I don't know enough about Apple hardware to give him the information he is looking for. I am wondering if anyone happens to know the answer on this.

Alright. About one week ago, I hooked up the powerbook to a 19 inch external LCD monitor with a DVI to VGA convertor, and all was well. It found my supported resolution and everything, worked straight away, etc.
Fast forward to today, at about 2pm (4 hours ago) I was using the computer and everything was working fine, but I had left it on for a few days so I shut it off when I was about to take a nap. I wake up from said nap about 20 minutes ago, turn on my Mac and my external display is only showing up at 800x600. I have no idea how this could have happened. This would not be an issue if my monitor's native resolution of 1440x900 were on the massive list of resolutions to chose from, but alas it is not.
I read the thread about how to pivot your screen over in another section but it didn't address what to do when it goes wrong. And it did...very wrong. I'm running a Powerbook G4 Titanium 15" laptop with Tiger OsX 10.4.11 and I hooked an external monitor to it. I was playing around with the settings and saw the rotation feature, which wasn't available until I attached the external monitor. As soon as I clicked on 90 degrees, both the main screen and the external fritzed out. I could vaguely see things through the haze on the main screen but the whole thing had stopped responding to all mouse and keypad commands. Eventually the only thing I could do to regain control was a hard shut off with the power button and unplug the external. After that the main screen booted up just fine but the moment I hook up the external again they go blue screen of death on me and I can't see what I'm doing to undo what I did!! I tried hitting the manual reset on the screen itself, which I didn't really think would work but hey, desperate times...
After some research on the internet I found out that, contrary to what the other thread says, not all Tiger enabled computers can run the rotation function, apparently because the scan rate, or something like that is too low. Which is why the option was disabled when only the main screen was running. Nice to know and would have been good to know sooner but what I need help with now is HOW DO I FIX THIS MESS?!!!! Some sites mentioned archiving (I'm moderately computer savvy but I'm not totally sure I know how to do that) and some have mentioned the boot disk, which I have but I want to make sure I know what will happen if I do that. I've backed up my files just in case. Will it erase the programs I've installed or just my settings? Or is it much simpler and is there something in the utilities I can mess with that will reset stuff?
I've got a 20" external Dell LCD monitor running off of a new White Macbook. When in Mac OS, the display works perfectly. However, when rebooting in windows XP all I see is the OS loading screen before the display goes black and nothing ever shows up. I've got the monitor connected via mini-DVI to DVI connector.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a Belkin AV360 so I can play my Xbox 360 on my new 27" iMac using target display mode. it has been working flawlessly since I got the AV360 until today where I haven't been able to get target display mode to work.
I've checked it is not the Xbox 360 being the problem tested it on my housemates TV. am also pretty sure it's not the Belkin AV360 itself because in system profiler under USB devices it says the "AV360 miniDP Converter" is pluged in and say same in Windows 7 bootcamp under device manager. I also tried my laptop which has a HDMI out on it.
my laptop says there is a "Belkin dongle" plugged in, I set the laptop to use the Belkin dongle at a external display and still I can't get target display mode to work.
Normally when I turn my Xbox on it automatically goes into target display mode or I can press cmd + F2 so to switch between iMac and Xbox. I have also tested my housemates Xbox in my setup and still the same problem.
ibook G4 running on Mac OSX V. 3.9 It has worked great ever since I bought it but in recent months it has began to act wierd. There is a constant, I guess you could call it grinding, of the motor. It often freezes and the only way to fix it is to shut it down by holding the power button. When I try to turn it on again, it gets to the gray screen with the apple and the gear and just spins and spins and spins until finally it works. Today when I turned it on after it freezing it took about 15 minutes to get away from the grey screen. When it finally did, it took me to the registration page and had me enter all my information again. However, even though everything is reset, my documents and pictures ares still there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my dual 2ghz G5 that I bought off ebay. I love it. Anyway, it has a 64mb Radeon 9600 Pro with the two monitor ports. I plugged my 22" Samsung into the DVI port. I want to buy another identical monitor for the other port, but it looks different. I found a graphic that shows the card's ports: [URL]. The top one in the graphic is where I put the connection. The bottom one is different. Is there an adapter or something? Or since I'm using two non-Apple monitors, should I just get a new card? BTW, I just bought and installed Leopard.

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro. I wanted to upgrade the video card, but had 2 questions.
1. Is the 4850 the best card to get right now? This card was announced a long time ago and nothing new seems to be coming out anytime soon. I don't want to buy this card and have a new card announced soon after.
2. The ATi has one display port and one DVI. Is there a card with 2 display ports?
I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
As said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.
I'm looking to run video out to two TVs, but it's over a decent distance, so I'm worried that using an HDMI splitter would cut the signal and suffer quality loss. I was wondering if both mini DisplayPorts can be linked to output the same signal at the same time, so that both TVs can show the same thing but each signal is at full force.Â

would it be possible to solder any wires to get power onto the USB ports on a G3 iMac? I have a blue 500Mhz model, if that would make any difference. the reason that I want to do this is because all of the iPods use USB now, and I would like to be able to charge mine while I am syncing it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWell I have this problem on my iBook. At first I thought it was just my printer, but now I have it with my iPod. I plug anything in to the usb ports and it is connected by my ibook doesn't recognize anything I plugin. My iPod is sitting here on do not disconnect, but it doesn't show up on my desktop or in itunes. When I plug in my Epson printer and try to print, it wont connect to the printer, but the printer is on and the connection is good. They both work on any other computer in my house. I go into system profiler and when I click USB it just has the loading wheel going. That's all I get. The weird thing is that my mouse which is connected via the USB port does work.

When I plugged it in again the external harddrives (four in all) that were daisy chained through the two firewire ports aren't being recognized anymore. I thought it was a bad cord or insufficient power but nothing worked. When I finally got around to looking at the System Profiler and check Firewire it said, "Unable to list firewire devices". I admit that I'm at a loss and I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.

It just sits there with a black screen.If I wait a few hours and try it, sometimes it starts up fine, or sometimes it will sit on the grey screen with the Apple symbol and do nothing.If it does boot correctly, none of the USB ports work. Any ideas on if its worth trying to repair since its 2 and a half years old and I didn't get the Apple Extended Service plan?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have used an external 23" monitor with my macbook air for almost 2 years, i have had a few issues, mainly just temporary blackouts lasting for just a second or two, but also seen red screen (all colors become red), this was however just a rare issue and usually it was working just fine.i borrowed a friends macbook and connected with the same cable to the same screen, and it worked immediately with no issues.Â
the screen would go completely black or start flickering (haven't seen this flicker before), and i had to fiddle around with reconnecting to get it working. the next day when i turned it on i had no picture, i tried again and still nothing, so i decided to install the updates, including thunderport firmware update. Now i got the old glitches and lots of new ones, at the times when i assume it would have worked before i am just getting static (black and white dots randomly everwhere) i can also get red'ish screen with instense flickering, but mostly just completely black. I thought the problem could be my cable or the monitor itself, but that's not the issue since those worked immediately without any problem on my friends computer, so it must be the macbook air itself!
