Jul 3, 2012I recently purchaed a Macbok Pro 15" the disk has only 3 user accounts Guest and 2 personal accounts. I have a SuperDuper backup of the Macbook Pro 17" disk and would like to restore the Users folder. However, Migration Assistant complaints all the accounts exists on the new computer! There are no accounts on the new computer with the same name. I rename the accounts but Migration Assistant complains those accounts exists. Migration Assistant restored Applications, computer settings and other folder. The option to replace the account is greyed and cannot be selected and renaming is not working. Â

Intel Mac :: Wired Aluminum Keyboard Not Working Running Snow Leopard
May 27, 2012I bought an iMac on dec, 2010 it came with snow leopard and a wired aluminum keyboard, everything was good until dec, 2011 when my keyboard suddenly stopped working, I took it to an apple store and they replaced it, everything was fine until last month when my new keyboard stopped working again.
I have an old macbook (1st gen of intel-based macbooks) and if I connect the keyboard to that macbook it works just fine, I have checked and all the USB ports on my iMac and they work but when I connect the keyboard it just doesn't recognizes it as a keyboard (or as anything because it doesn't show on system profiler). I have connected another keyboard I own (a logitech wireless one) and the imac recognizes it, I don't know what to do.
Btw, if I disconnect the keyboard for a day or two it works again when I connect it to the iMac, also If I use the USB ports attached to the keyboard I get an error that the USB is taking too much power and it shuts down (and then the keyboard stops working again on the iMac)

This is displaying on the desktop of my new iMac running Lion as an external Hard drive,also system preferences sees it as a start up source.My question is , is it safe to restart into Snow leopard without causing a kernel panic and if it does boot will it be fast enough to use as it as a USB drive.

May 19, 2012My intel iMac hard drive crashed. I had it backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner. The technician who fixed the hard drive put SL on the new hard drive. I tried to restore with CCC first but it didn't restore anything. I used Migration Assistant and it asked about duplicate user names so I gave it a new name to be safe. I now have all my apps but no files. I used MA again and decided to use the same user name this time. I ended up with 2 accounts with the same name but no files. I was hoping to end up with the same computer (e.g. same desktop, all files in the same folders as before, iPhoto, iCal, Address Book, Dashboard etc. all organized and acting the same way as before). Every looking and acting the same way with the exception of the subtle changes brought about by SL.

Now:all CD's show up as untitled, show as having no content, and are listed with burn symbolCommercial DVD worksDVD's made by professional videographers (school event) are ejected
All of the above are readily read and DVD's played, title and content, by my old PowerBook G4, running 10.3.9Â
I seldom use CD's or DVD's, so do not know how long this problem has existed, or what may have precipitated the problem.Â

Feb 2, 2010I have a MacBook 13" 2.0 GHz with 1 GB Ram and a 80GB harddrive 2006 model. This machine recognizes all ram, DVD, Hard Drive and ng usb etc. seems to work perfectly. BUT, it will only startup if I HOLD the PowerButton down all the way down until I see the the Apple Logo. If I just hit the powerbutton and go, it will t reboot over and over and over. I have bought new ram, nope. I tried a different HD, nope. I disconnected the DVD, nope. It simply won't boot properly. Once I HOLD down the power button to get it running it works fine, sees the camera, BT, WIFI, clock is at right time, all keys on KB work, and usb peripherials. I cannot reset the pram or vram at all, even while holding the power button down to boot. If I just hit the button and quickly press Command option p r it just reboots like always. Does anyone have any ideas??? I'm at a loss as it works fine once booted. While holding the power button to boot it I see my front led flashing and then hear the several beeps and it starts up just fine.
I have pulled the battery, removed the PSU, held the power button for a whole minute battery or power and let it sit overnight like this but nada, still does this.

MacBook Pro :: Das Keyboard Not Recognized Running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Apr 23, 2012I've just got the Das Keyboard Ultimate Model S for my 2009 MacBook Pro, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I'm using the USB port to connect the keyboard, and the first time I plugged it in, the computer asked me to hit the first key to the right side of the left Shift key, which is pretty standard whenever a new keyboard is plugged into the Mac. It recognized it as a European ISO standard, which it is.
However since then my Mac no longer recognizes it as that kind of keyboard. When I go into the "Show Keyboard Viewer", the keyboard is recognized as a US Standard layout, and an Apple keyboard as well (meaning it doesn't "see" the numpad). You can see it's a US standard keyboard, as the Enter key is horizontal, and the left Shift key is wider. (the rest of the layout is Danish, which shouldn't matter in this case).
How do I tell my Mac that this isn't the correct keyboard? I've resetted the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM. I've tried to find and delete the file "com.apple.keyboardtype.plist" in my Library -> Preferences folder, but for some reason I don't have that file. I've plugged the keyboard into my iMac, running the same OS, and here the keyboard is recognized correctly, so it's not the keyboard that's faulty.

Apr 13, 2012Currently I have an iMac 10.5.8 with an Intel Core 2 Duo and 2Go Ram. Since January I didn't had much system updates because my software is apparently too old ... And I am kind of paranoid about the Trojans that I might have because I use the old version plus Safari is getting blocked very often. So I decided to by first Snow Leopard and then Lion. The thing is that I live in Norway & I will have to use the Norwegian apple store to by those programs but my OS X is in French. So I was wondering if I will be able to choose my language or the whole system will be automatically in Norwegian? The second question is to know if it is difficult to upgrade? I am a Mac user because I don't have any clues about the computers and Mac is always working. I read some complaints from people who after installing Snow Leopard couldn't use properly their printers or other apps... Is there is something I (completely ignorant person) should be aware of before doing the upgrade? Â

Apr 25, 2012I received the Snow Leopard upgrade disc from Apple. The instructions read to simply upgrade to SL version 10.6.8 after running the installation disc, and then to purchase the Lion upgrade from the Mac App. However, this SL version seems to be 10.5.8, and none of the 10.6.8 or lower updates will work. I found a 10.6.1, but that won't install either. They all say that I need OS 10.6 and I can't find it. I have a 2009 iMac with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: MacBook Running Slow - Restart Taking Over 10 Minutes
May 15, 2012A few days ago, I found my macbook running slow. The starting time used to be 2+ min but slow down to 10+ min. I tried to reinstal by installation DVD but the time bar showed 5+ hours required. I restarted the macbook and tried to format the HD, after proper steps taken, the time bar showed 17 days. Instead booting from the system, I tried to boot direct from my installation DVD.
After formatted the HD and re-instal the system, the MacBook seems running smooth again. But after installation of other programs, the same problem recurred. The system was getting slow. Re-starting it required waiting over 10 minutes. I tried to re-format the HD and installed the system again but still doesn't work. Under the disk utility "first aid" scanning through the HD, it showed "Invalid key length." and "The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely."
