OS X :: Snow Leopard (A380) GPU Drivers - Fans Running Constantly?

Jun 18, 2009

I noticed that my GPUs fans (either ATI 3870HD or 4870) in my MP 1,1 are considerably louder nonewithstanding nothing CPU/ GPU taxing is running. Anyone else noticed this? Are the GPU drivers not finished yet or is it due SL keeping them under load for Open CL/ Grand Central?

MacBook Pro :: Running Extremely Slowly And Fan Continuously Running Loudly?

Jun 4, 2014

My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

Intel Mac :: Fans Running At High Speed?

Mar 17, 2012

My iMac (intel core duo) after a hard drive replacement seems to be running the fans at a high rate of speed.  Usually just a few minuets after startup. Before the upgrade they were almost silent and now they are very noticeable. I need to get taken care of or just a result of installing a larget hard drive?

Intel Mac :: Wired Aluminum Keyboard Not Working Running Snow Leopard

May 27, 2012

I bought an iMac on dec, 2010 it came with snow leopard and a wired aluminum keyboard, everything was good until dec, 2011 when my keyboard suddenly stopped working, I took it to an apple store and they replaced it, everything was fine until last month when my new keyboard stopped working again.

I have an old macbook (1st gen of intel-based macbooks) and if I connect the keyboard to that macbook it works just fine, I have checked and all the USB ports on my iMac and they work but when I connect the keyboard it just doesn't recognizes it as a keyboard (or as anything because it doesn't show on system profiler). I have connected another keyboard I own (a logitech wireless one) and the imac recognizes it, I don't know what to do.

Btw, if I disconnect the keyboard for a day or two it works again when I connect it to the iMac, also If I use the USB ports attached to the keyboard I get an error that the USB is taking too much power and it shuts down (and then the keyboard stops working again on the iMac)

Mac Pro :: Fans Now Audible With Snow Leopard?

Aug 29, 2009

Anyone notice that the fans that used to run silent are now audible? It's not full-blast, but I can hear the fans on my 2008 8-core Mac Pro which is sitting on the ground next to me -- that I used to be so quiet I had to put my ear up to the machine to hear them. Just wanted to confirm if others are noticing this, or if it's just me. It's the same amount of noise under any condition. I've got a 2008 Mac Pro 2.8/octo, just installed Snow Leopard on release day.

OS X :: CPU Running At Constant 45% Since 10.6.6 MBA Fans Running?

Jan 6, 2011

Since I updated to 10.6.6 earlier today I've noticed that the fan in my MBA (13" late-2010 model) is running constantly. This is rare -- I hardly ever hear it. I opened activity monitor and 'System' is using 45% CPU time, and it's pretty constant.

I have absolutely no clue why -- there's nothing in console to suggest it's doing some task, and I can't see any other hints. Apart from the noise and the heat (though don't get me wrong -- compared to my old MBP it's not really noisy or hot, but I liked it better when it was totally quiet and cold), it's also killing the battery -- 25% has gone in less than an hour.

OS X :: Is There A Free Way To Run/emulate OS X Snow Leopard While Running Leopard?

Dec 3, 2010

Is there a free way to run/emulate OS X Snow Leopard while running Leopard?

I had a billion problems when I upgraded to Snow Leopard but some software that I don't use frequently only works with it so I want to be able to run those apps while still staying in my less buggy OS X Leopard.

I don't want to have dual boot operating systems. OS X Leopard 10.5 is my primary OS.

Mac Pro :: Why OWC RAM Running Hot / Fans Not Increasing

Feb 15, 2008

My OWC RAM is working just fine, but I am growing increasingly concerned about the temperatures at which it runs. I have the 3.0 (120W) MacBook 2008 with 18 Gb RAM (4x4Gb + 2x1Gb apple stock). The RAM in memory module A2 & B2 is getting up to 80 Celsius without even much of a workout on the RAM. What's more, the MacPro fans are not increasing - right now the hottest module is at 76 Celsius and fans haven't increased at all (see screenshot below).

I have installed SMC fan control, which I understand is supposed to set the minimum fan speed, which I have set at 730 because my RAM was running hot even without any workout. How concerned should I be about this? Is this a) a defect in my mac pro b) a design flaw c) a problem with OWC memory, or d) is everything OK and I'm making a mountain out of a molehill?

Well my MacPro 2009 has this weird error where the fans will kick in and a restart wont restore them to normal a sleep cycle will though. It seems to only happen with OpenCL intensive apps but not Cuda intensive apps?? this may be random coincidence.

MacBook Pro :: Why Fans Running So High?

Dec 25, 2010

Both of my fans are running at the max 6200 RPM and have been for well over an hour. My CPU is over 65% idle, and none of my processes are over 20%. My HD Temp is 38 degrees and my CPU temp is 72 degrees. I don't think my fans should be running this high considering the computer is doing so little work.

PowerPC :: G5 Fans Constantly Running At 4K

Jan 19, 2009

My PowerMac's (G5 Dual 1.8GHz procs) fans seem to run at a solid 4k rpm's regardless of what I'm doing, even with CPU usage set to low. I've taken the whole machine apart, cleaning it with canned air and such, but the problem just won't leave me be. The air coming out of the machine is ice cold, and the temperature readings I'm getting are about 86 degrees F for the CPU's and 70 for the HDD, so I'm not sure what gives.. Slot and Backside fans are running at 255 rpm, but the others are all 4k.

PowerPC :: G5 Pro Fans Running Too Fast

Jul 28, 2009

The fans on my G5 Pro are running at close to 3000rpm most of the time. I have read other forums and do not think this is normal at all. I started looking into the fans because I am getting frequent kernel panics (black screen crashes) and thought it might be the machine over heating. My CPUs are at about 50C to 52C and the fans are constantly running that fast.

OS X :: MacBook Pro Shut Down But Fans Still Running

Aug 23, 2010

Like 3 days ago I shut down my macbook pro normally. I closed the lid and I noticed that the sleep indicator light was on. I opened the lid and the light went off. I closed the lid again and the light went on again. I got closer to the computer and the fans and drives inside were still running. The only thing I did was to hold the power button down until it shut. This has happened to me 3 times already. I'm kind of worried because I got the computer 2 weeks ago and I'm really happy with it. My computer is a 2010 13' Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard, not sure what version it is.

OS X :: 10.6 Snow Leopard Running On PPC?

Jul 3, 2009

As all of you know, according to Apple, Snow Leopard runs only on Intel chips. Also, as a lot of you know, PPC and Intel versions of OS X report themselves as such, ie PPC 10.5, Intel 10.5 and so on...

Yesterday, as I was looking over my traffic logs, I found something quite interesting...

"PPC 10.6"

I got one visit right after the day of WWDC, and another visit just 2 days ago...

Someone just spoofing what their machine reports? Or someone running an an early internal build of SL during which time maybe they had multiple versions?

MacBook Pro :: Fans Running High All Time

Feb 24, 2012

Last summer my MBP 2.3 GHz C2D was heating up so much, you barely could touch it. So I decided to give it a little hardware checkup. Finding the fans completely stuffed with dust

But after a while i recognized that the fans went on high rpms (around 6000) already at startup and did not lessen anymore. I do not have any high capacity processes running and the temperatures are not just not warm buth rather chilly, so no need for high fan speed. Now I want to solve this problem as well but seemingly nothing will work.
