Apr 10, 2012Recently I tried to set up sync with gmail. As soon as I did all my contacts in the cloud and all my Apple devices disappeared. I shut down the sync and tried to re-import my contacts from an earlier export, but each time I choose Import, the names appear, the wheel spins, and when it stops all the contacts disappear.

Apr 9, 2012I am considering whether to switch to iCloud when I upgrade my iPhone 3G (I also have an iMac running Lion and an iPad). However I am concerned about the security of my data, particularly iCal and Contacts. Am I right in thinking that in iCloud the only copy of these is stored on Apple's servers? Call me paranoid but I would not be happy with the only copy of important files existing on a third party's servers, even if that third party is Apple. After all, not having multiple backups flies in the face of good backup practice. Is it possible to have a local copy/backup of iCal and Contacts when using iCloud?

I've only just noticed, but my iCal isn't displaying birthdays, even with the "Birthdays" calendar box checked. I think this started some time ago, but only just noticed it [brothers b-day isn't showing up this month]Â
I've tried removing it and restarting the application, and signing in and out of iCloud, but no change. I thought about deleting the .plist for the iCal, but I can't actually find it in the library/preferences folder.Â

Sep 2, 2009Loaded 10.6 last night and everything appeared to go well. However, when I opened iCal, ALL of my appointments, birthdays, events, etc. had disappeared. Unfortunately I had not backed up iCal before loading SL.
I have good SuperDuper backups of the system and I have Time Machine backups of everything, but I don't see a way to extract the appointment data from those.

The macbook pro and the phone seem to be all hooked up nicely through icloud now, so no problems there. However I run an old tower which I would love to keep in sync with everything else. The email still works though icloud, it appears. iCal and Address Book do not seem to sync up anymore, and I can't find a resolution anywhere.

I googled this problem extensively and found a free on-line translator, but it did not work on the file I would like to import. I believe a commercial product can also do the deed, but I really don't want to cough up a bunch of money just to have this one file translated.

Oct 6, 2009I recently bought a new MacBook Pro with SL.
My iCal is behaing exceptionally weird. I can't resize my screen. If i change from month to week it stops showing some events, every time I hit the "Show To-Do's" Button it doesn't work and alot of other bugs that make it absolutely unusable.
I've tried re-installing it from the SL DVD, upgrading to 10.6.1 (from software update AND apple's download page), and even trying to delete all my calendars info form my library. Nothing worked.

Now:all CD's show up as untitled, show as having no content, and are listed with burn symbolCommercial DVD worksDVD's made by professional videographers (school event) are ejected
All of the above are readily read and DVD's played, title and content, by my old PowerBook G4, running 10.3.9Â
I seldom use CD's or DVD's, so do not know how long this problem has existed, or what may have precipitated the problem.Â

Last night, I discovered that my address book had lost all of its contacts - the only one there was me. Is there a place that I can look for this file, in case this is just caused by a disconnect between the program and the file? What is the file called? I do have some folders in ~/library/application support/address book:
