Mar 12, 2012I have installed my hard drive from a previous but terminally I'll iMac that was running Snow Leopard into a Sata to USBÂ enclosure. This is displaying on the desktop of my new iMac running Lion as an external Hard drive,also system preferences sees it as a start up source.My question is , is it safe to restart into Snow leopard without causing a kernel panic and if it does boot will it be fast enough to use as it as a USB drive.

Jun 2, 2014I am trying to update my MBP running Snow Leopard to Mavericks. I have downloaded the Mavericks setup app from the Mac Store, ran it. I have pressed install for my Mac HDD and it says "Your computer will restart". So I let the Mac restart which it does, but then nothing has changed. I just see the my Snow Leopard desktop with no messages or errors.Â
If I run the Mavericks setup again it does exactly the same thing. It seems whatever is supposed to trigger after reboot to continue setup isnt running.Â

May 28, 2009On my Macbook Pro (Tiger) I suddenly got an error message about running out of space on the start up disc (woking on a word 2008 document). Checking suggested I had only 124MB left.
A couple of days earlier I had 60gb free. Deleting a few gb of programs reduced the space to zero!
I couldn't work out were the space was being used but as most programs were now refusing to work. I just shut down.
On switching back on, the HD space had come back and I had my 60gb of free space back.
whether its a sign of a problem I should try and sort out, or is it just "one of those things".

Nov 12, 2010I have an iMac G5 (circa 2005) with a non intel processor, I recently purchased Snow Leopard to update this, however it advised I need an Intel Processor to install Snow Leopard. Is there a way of getting round this, the main reason being is I want to use the Magic Trackpad - but ive been told this will only run on Snow Leopard OSX? If anyone could answer this asap I would be grateful, today is the last day I can take back Snow Leopard and the Magic Trackpad to the Apple Store for a refund.

Jan 30, 2010I'm using a iMac PowerPC G5 that I've received from my brother. He gave it to me with a fresh install of Leopard on it, but he unfortunately no longer has the disc that came with the computer that he also used to format it before handing it to me. With that said, I ordered a new internal hard drive. Naturally, I'll need to re-install Leopard, but I don't have an install disc anywhere. How is this going to be possible? Or will it not be? Jul 29, 2010After getting the message that Finder had an error -10801 (or something similar, i can't remember...) I forced my macbook pro to shut down. Afterwards I can log-in but non of the finder windows appear on the desktop. Also I cannot open any other application or shut down the Computer. when I put in my Leopard Install disc and turn on the Computer holding down the C I only get a grey screen. I have done that for 10 minutes. When I do the same with Snow Leopard "CPU Drop-in DVD" I get a menu: 'Choosing language' and then MAC OS X Installer asks 'To set up the installation of Snow Leopard, click continue". However, I am afraid of doing that if it erases all my documents. I have the possibility of choosing a UTILITY menu, but down know what to do with this (e.g. Go to Disk Utility or Terminal). Does anyone have a clue of how to help the Danish student?

Aug 27, 2009Though users of older Intel-based Macs were led to believe they would have to spend $169 to migrate from Tiger to Snow Leopard, new reports state the $29 upgrade disc will work just fine.
In his review of Snow Leopard, Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal, Mossberg reveals that those who have been hesitant to upgrade their Mac will be able to take advantage of Snow Leopard's bargain price, without the need to install the intermediate Leopard operating system first.
"For owners of Intel-based Macs who are still using the older Tiger version of the Mac OS, Apple is officially making Snow Leopard available only in a "boxed set" that includes other software and costs $169," Mossberg said. "The reasoning is that these folks never paid the $129 back in 2007 to upgrade to Leopard. But here's a tip: Apple concedes that the $29 Snow Leopard upgrade will work properly on these Tiger-equipped Macs, so you can save the extra $140."
Wired also confirmed that they were able to upgrade a system directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard. In addition, it is possible to completely erase a hard drive and install Snow Leopard without a pre-existing operating system in place, enabling users to bypass the possible headaches of an upgrade and go with a clean install instead. Wired said many users upgrading from Tiger should probably consider backing up their files from Tiger and doing a clean install instead.
"Of course, the transition isn't guaranteed to be as smooth as it would be from Leopard to Snow Leopard," the report said of the Tiger to Snow Leopard upgrade, "and that's because some older, Tiger-only third-party applications need to be upgraded to newer versions that work with Leopard or Snow Leopard."
Originally released in April 2005, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is more than a little long in the tooth at this point, especially considering the astounding success of its follow-up, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Mar 31, 2010My dvd drive is busted, so I'm attempting to use remote disc to install snow leopard on my macbook pro (running 10.5.5). There doesn't seem to be a clean install option without running the snow leopard disc from boot. Is there any way that I can run the install disc from boot via remote disc so I can run a clean install? I tried restarting my computer and holding down the alt/option key, which showed the only available boot drive as my macbook pro's internal hard drive.

Sep 26, 2009I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard and one of the questions I'm struggling to find an answer to, is just how much RAM can I put in my iMac? I'm running a 3.06GHz core 2 duo iMac, 2008 (last model, without the new fancy graphics card). And, it currently runs 4Gb of RAM. With all of the Snow Leopard talk of your system running a virtually infinite amount of RAM, how much can I run???
Am I limited in some way by the motherboard in my iMac? Or can I "fill my boots!!"?

Aug 31, 2014I need to install OS X 10.6 on my new MacBook (10.8.2) because older programs won't work on my new machines. I've successfully created a new partition. However when I hold down option button on startup I only see original partition and Recovery-10.8.2 but not the new partition. How on earth does one install an older version of OS X on a new machine.
