View 7 Replies View RelatedI just found this environmental report for the 27" iMac's on Apple's web site, which lists the amount of power they use when off/asleep/idle.
There doesn't seem to be a similar document for the Late 2006 iMac's. I'm just wondering if anybody knows the power consumption stats for the older iMac's (the 20" model in particular) - I'm interested to now how the newer models compare as I'll be buying one soon.
I have an OLD iMac G4 that was working fine, but I went to turn it on one day and it wouldn't power up. I took off the round bottom and cleaned any dust off, have replaced the lithium battery, and put it back together again. Still no power.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 2.4Ghz 24" about 18 months old. After a visitor's mains powered hard drive (which was later shown to be already faulty!) was connected I lost the power to the USB bus inside the iMac. I can still use devices that need power with an USB port expander but this is far from ideal. USB data is working fine as is the firewire port. Simply the power to the USB. I have reset the PRAM but not yet reset the Power Management Unit. I assume there is no physical fuse for the USB power internally as I have not seen a reference to one anywhere. Should I reset the PMU?
Are the USB and their power integral to the motherboard? On start up I get the error message: "USB Over Current Notice. A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub it is attached to will be deactivated." I get this error message even when nothing not even keyboard is plugged in (so its not that faulty keyboard error). There really is no power at the USB ports - but data is working
Yesterday it would not power on, the day before it was working perfectly. I tried switching out the power cord, and also holding down the power on button for a few minutes. Purchased in August 2005 never had a problem. It is 1.8 GHz 20-in integrated flat panel.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an iMac G5 that i recently bought from one of my dads friends who had never really used it. (he had also bought it used)when i push the power button the fan turns on very quietly and softly. and after a bit it starts to work really hard, no start up sound is heard and the screen doesnt turn on.I have reset the PRAM and the SMU and both methods only worked once in a while.and when it did turn on it would freeze (sometimes after a while and sometimes right off the bat) and id have to shut it down, I have checked the diagnostic LEDs and the power supply is running as it should. only things that are noticable with this computer when i opened it up was that
-there was no fan cover
-the middle screw was stripped
-the power cord isnt an authentic iMac power cord, it looks to be one from an old windows computer or something of that sort.i am also not using an apple mouse or keyboard
i have a imac with i sight emc 2124 just went pop turned off and wont power up again ive removed case and look at logic board and all caps look ok no leaking or funny shapes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTried to wake my 24" white iMac from sleep yesterday and discovered that it was off. Pressed the button in back but no go. Unplugged and replugged, pressed the button and it fired up fine. Surfed a bit, then put it back to sleep.
Came back about 3 hours later and it was off again. Unplugged and replugged, pressed the button and nothing. Tried it a couple more times just to check, and no go.
Any ideas? I've had this computer for a little over two years. Bought it used and bought Applecare which expired on.... Nov. 16th. Beautiful timing or what.
does the older non-iSight iMac G5 have a built in PSU? (no external brick?)
what does the connector on the back of the iMac look like? (or the plug)
thinking about an older iMac G5 (vesa mountable) for a project Im working on
I have a Power Mac 8600 OS 8.1 and would like to transfer files to a New Imac OS 10.5.6.
The 8600 has a built in 100 zip drive. I was thinking of buying a used Iomega 100 mg external zip to use on my Imac to transfer the files via the removable disks. Will this work?
I have a Mac Pro 08, 2x2.8GHz Quadcore, 2gb RAM. I never buy IMac because I want a power machine. So I always buy Macpro but! now IMac comes quad, nice monitor etc. My question is if new IMac is more power that my machine? The new IMac is more power even I buy more ram? 32gb? vs the 16gb of new IMac?
View 24 Replies View RelatedMaybe someone can help me understand this a bit better. I have a MBP with a 2.16GHz CPU. I think it's about 2.5 years old. It has the ATI x1600 GPU. My dad previously had an iMac G5 2GHz but now has one of the new iMacs at 3.06GHz.When running iStat, I can notice an obvious difference in the CPU temperature. I don't think my MBP runs less than 120 degrees idle, while the iMacs were easily under 100. I haven't seen the new iMac while doing CPU-intensive tasks, but the old iMac never got above 140 if I'm not mistaken. As I'm encoding video on the MBP for a DVD using iDVD, it's getting up to 187 degrees. The CPU is using about 125 percent of my processing power -- 200 percent max if you didn't know. The temperature is the same even when HandBrake gets up to about 190 percent of processing.

its 500 MHZ power pc processor
30 GB Hard drive
512 Ram
I want the newest possible system so I can start on a newer system espicially since i am still a starter. Another question I have, do i have to purchase a cd to install a system or is it possible to download it from the internet?
what new imac to get. I really need to upgrade my macbook because I do a lot of music production and I need more cpu power. Currently I have a C2D 2.0 ghz T7200 and 2gb of RAM. What I need to run: Around 40-45 tracks (24 bit 44100Hz) in Ableton/Logic with around 4 devices (EQ, reverb etc) on each track. As one can imagine my macbook doesn't cope with this. Audio starts lagging and I need to freeze tracks which dramatically decreases my working efficiency. So I decided to get a new imac, I don't need more power than what the above requires. Other apps I will run is the CS4 suite but that doesn't require as much power as my music production. So mainly for music I was thinking a 3.06 ghz would do the trick. From benchmarks I see it's about twice as powerful as my current CPU. Would it be enough? By the way, I know about the coming update, but that can only be better than the 3.06 C2D so that's not the issue here.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an APC H15 Power Conditioner and just bought an iMac 27'' and want to protect it against power failures. I was wondering if I could connect the power conditioner to the wall outlet and then a UPS on the conditioner. The iMac would be connected to the battery backup outlet in the UPS. Also, IF this can be done, in which outlet should I connect the UPS on the APC H15; Digital Filter or High Current filter?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI truly feel this could just be a switch problem. If I leave my iMac on full time I have no problems with it but whenever I turn it off I cannot get it to power up again. The "on switch" glows but the computer does not turn on.

I have brought the 21,5" iMac 1 week ago. I just chosed the preconfigured model.
But i have had some problems with it.When the computer has been to sleep for some hours, it wont wake up with click on keyboard or on the mouse. I will have to use the powerbutton, where the computer then comes with a error, but it starts up.
Can anyone tell me what the real world power difference is between an imac 2.4 ghz and macbook 2.4ghz for Photoshop and light video?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 17 Inch Intel-based IMac (2006). when I press the power button I can here and feel fans running but the Power Indicator Light turns on and the screen remains black. Nothing else happens. Not sure what I did. I didn't take anything apart. I checked over the whole compartment and all connectors appear to still be connected.
I did some research figured out how to disassemble the IMac, purchased a new hard drive, backed up the computer and when I took it all apart there was a third connector on the hard drive (temp sensor?). The new drive did not have this connector so instead of experimenting I put the computer all back together.
Can't seem to find this info anywhere.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy iMac stays on 100% of the time, but a few months ago I turned it off for about 18 hours during a storm. When I turned it back on, I got the flashing question mark. I turned it off & back on about 8-10 times, when it finally booted up just fine.
It never does it at a reboot, only if off a while. For several months, it did this any time it was off a while.
About 6 weeks ago, it stopped doing it! Now, I can't MAKE it happen!
I should feel lucky, but I'm also nervous about an impending failure. When SL came out, I repartitioned the drive, first going to MBR, then back to GUID, just to re-write everything. That neither helped (the issue was already gone), nor hurt.
I'm considering to buy a new iMac (21,5"/nvidia or ati) and I'm wondering if someone has already measured the actual power consumption. In it's environmental paper, Apple documents that it uses less than 2W in sleep mode and 37,5 W with the display off. Did anyone try if this is also measured in real life? I may sound a bit paranoid, but half a year ago I bought a mac mini 2007 at a stock clearance, and I was shocked to find out that just the powerblock plugged in already consumes 8W, the mini itself in standby consumes 11W. Add to that a screen, external speakers and an external disk and the total standby power consumption of the lot is 25W. Terrible.
Besides the energy consumption, I'm also a bit disappointed with the speed of the mini, but that's probably largely due to the low RAM (1GB). So rather than going for the latest mini model, I'd like to go for the power of an iMac. But I would be really happy if someone could confirm the power consumption. Specifically I'm looking for power consumption
- In sleep mode
- While streaming itunes to an airport express, with the display off
(I assume the display goes to sleep automatically when streaming. Right?)
- While in normal, not too heavy operation (eg surfing, mailing & itunes)
I have a quick question to anyone who has a 27" iMac.How long in inches (exactly) is the power cable?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWell my desktop just crapped out on me and I really don't want to invest money to rebuild it. I was looking at the IMacs but my one concern is about gaming. I really only play WoW but I also want the option to maybe play something newer. I am a little concerned with Macs lack of video cards and in order to get at least 512mb I have to spend 2k. Do macs not need that extra video power?
