View 1 RepliesWill a 600W power supply from a June 2004 dual 1.8 G5 be compatible with a dual 2.3 early 2005 system (450W)? Are the connectors any different? Will a bigger power supply overload the system? I know that the 600W June 04 power supply can be used with a dual 2.7 early 05 machine (600W) despite a rubber grommet that the 04 doesn't have.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got myself a WD My Book World Edition II 1TB ethernet HD. I can connect to it fine from my MacBook, but on my G5 its a different story. I see the drive on the Network. I then double click on it and get the prompt for the usergroup, username and password, type in the info and I get a error saying it can't see it. What am I missing? OS is 10.4.9 on G5 and 10.4.10 on MacBook.
Information:
Power Mac G5
Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Dual 2.0 GHz
Am I limited as to the GB size or other specs, (other than case size), in installing a second drive in my G5? Is there a Gb limit that it can't handle? A buffer rate that it can't handle or is overkill? I need to get a HD for it ASAP, preferably tonight, and need to know what limitations I have if any.

I am buying a G4 Power Mac. I was wondering if anyone knows what the capabilities are of this computer. Can the RAM be upgraded to 2 or 4GB? Graphics card? As far as I know, Leopard can be installed so I am good with the OS. Oh, and a friend told me the Power Mac is like a Mac Pro but older. Is this true? Like can the Power Mac house multiple processors and hard drives?

The only thing that is striking me odd is that this is the only ram on neweggs site that seems to be compatible with an iMac that doesn't actually show up under their Apple > Mac Memory category
I am having problems with my Mac G4, and it's been suggested it may be the motherboard. Therefore I'm considering getting a new iMac. I am concerned about what software i have, and what will be compatible with a new machine. Here are the programs i currently have, and use: Illustrator CS, Photoshop CS, Carrara 5 Pro, Painter IX, Hexagon 2, Dreamweaver MX, FireworksMX, Flash MX and Titanium Toast 6. I also use Appleworks 6 on occasion. Can anyone indicate which, if any of these could be used with Leapord and iMac?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to upgrade my iMac's hardrive and I found an HDD that I'd like to buy; I just want to make sure its compatible with my computer. I have a 17inch imac, and a 1.8 G5 processor (NO built in iSight). The hardrive I'm looking at is a Seagate Barracuda 500GB internal HDD. Here's a link to detailed specks: [URL]The size is right but I'm not sure the computer will accept SERIAL-ATA. It looks like the drive installed now is only ATA, so I wanted to double check and see if this makes a difference. If it does, could someone please recomend a suitable 500GB internal Hardrive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm getting the new Canon T2i camera very soon. It's supposed to be retail released in Mid March (which means next week hopefully). Canon supports the new SDXC format. SDXC was introduced in 2009 and it's supposed to be the replacement to SDHC. Supposed to be much higher read speeds. So does the iMac support the SDXC cards?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a new HD to replace the original, now failing Maxtor drive in my G5 tower (1.8 Ghz dual processor, purchased in Aug. 2004), and have just about settled on the Western Digital Caviar SE16 series. It seems there are two types -- SATA and SATA II -- and I'm not sure about how to make a decision on which particular WD model to buy.
Will either type work in my machine? Or would the SATA II have potential compatibility problems? I read somewhere in these forums that someone with a G5 had bought an SATA II drive, and it wouldn't run with his system. (He said he had to reset some jumper switches to reduce the transfer rate of the drive ??, but now I'm told elsewhere that SATA drives don't have jumper switches.

I am awaiting my new iMac to arrive and have a question about my current speaker set up and if it will be compatible with my new iMac. The speakers are the 5.1 set and have 3 coloured connectors which connect to the back in my sound card. However, looking at the back of the new iMac, I see no connection for these 3 cables.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two 512mb 667MHz DDR2 DIMMS from an old first generation Intel iMac. Would one of these DIMMS work in the Aluminum iMac running a single 1GB 800MHz DDR2 DIMM? Common sense tells me "No" and that this combination could cause Kernal Panics, etc with different speeds of RAM installed. However, I thought it was worth asking since I have these two DIMMS sitting here doing nothing and my mate could use the extra memory for free.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo My name is Lindsey and I have been an avid apple supporter. However in the last two weeks I've come extremely close to selling everything apple I own and going back to windows. I purchased a refurbished Intel Imac through the apple store about 4 months ago. Awesome computer, everything worked great. Well I recently decided to add an additional monitor so of course I started browsing the forums and did my due diligence. I read that there were some compatibility issues with some of the older imacs and the apple 24 in led display so naturally I called my nearest apple store to find out if I could use this display.
The sales associate listened as I explained that I had a 2008 intel Imac and assured my the display would work without an adapter. Of course you guys know this is totally wrong but I was unaware of this fact at the time. SO I drove a 6 hour round trip to Dallas and paid 970 in cash for my new monitory. Get it home and realize that something is obv wrong. I call the store back and the clerk tells me I need an adapter that can be bought at Best Buy. I drive 45 min to best buy. They are sold out. Next day I drive an hour and a half to the next closest Best Buy. They dont have it either..............................
I have one of the original MacPros 1,1 2x266 currently running OS X 10.7.3. and indicating ROM Revision 3011. When I try to run this update, it fails saying I need OS X 10.6. Do I need the update (I presume yes since my ROM rev is lower), if so how can I install it?
Info:
Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I have the Imac Alu 24", 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo with a ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic card with 256MB VRAM. I will be buying a 2 year old apple Cinema display 30" tomorrow from a colleague and would like to know that my IMAC can easily handle supporting this display at its normal resolution and have a crisp and correct image on the larger screen. I know that this older version of the Alu Imac has the older video out display port, but I presume I can convert it to attach to this 2 year old screen as well. Is there something I'll need to do to get this to work?

No mater what you MAC guru says... Windows rocks despite of all problems Microsoft doesn't screw you up like this and force you to buy propreitery every thing. Sorry folks I am frustrated and need help.. before this MAC sees the dumpster.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just found this environmental report for the 27" iMac's on Apple's web site, which lists the amount of power they use when off/asleep/idle.
There doesn't seem to be a similar document for the Late 2006 iMac's. I'm just wondering if anybody knows the power consumption stats for the older iMac's (the 20" model in particular) - I'm interested to now how the newer models compare as I'll be buying one soon.
I have an OLD iMac G4 that was working fine, but I went to turn it on one day and it wouldn't power up. I took off the round bottom and cleaned any dust off, have replaced the lithium battery, and put it back together again. Still no power.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 2.4Ghz 24" about 18 months old. After a visitor's mains powered hard drive (which was later shown to be already faulty!) was connected I lost the power to the USB bus inside the iMac. I can still use devices that need power with an USB port expander but this is far from ideal. USB data is working fine as is the firewire port. Simply the power to the USB. I have reset the PRAM but not yet reset the Power Management Unit. I assume there is no physical fuse for the USB power internally as I have not seen a reference to one anywhere. Should I reset the PMU?
Are the USB and their power integral to the motherboard? On start up I get the error message: "USB Over Current Notice. A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub it is attached to will be deactivated." I get this error message even when nothing not even keyboard is plugged in (so its not that faulty keyboard error). There really is no power at the USB ports - but data is working
Yesterday it would not power on, the day before it was working perfectly. I tried switching out the power cord, and also holding down the power on button for a few minutes. Purchased in August 2005 never had a problem. It is 1.8 GHz 20-in integrated flat panel.

(he had also bought it used)when i push the power button the fan turns on very quietly and softly. and after a bit it starts to work really hard, no start up sound is heard and the screen doesnt turn on.I have reset the PRAM and the SMU and both methods only worked once in a while.and when it did turn on it would freeze (sometimes after a while and sometimes right off the bat) and id have to shut it down, I have checked the diagnostic LEDs and the power supply is running as it should. only things that are noticable with this computer when i opened it up was that
-there was no fan cover
-the middle screw was stripped
-the power cord isnt an authentic iMac power cord, it looks to be one from an old windows computer or something of that sort.i am also not using an apple mouse or keyboard

Any ideas? I've had this computer for a little over two years. Bought it used and bought Applecare which expired on.... Nov. 16th. Beautiful timing or what.
