May 21, 2009I have a 1.83 Ghz intel core 2 Duo 17in imac. While it was on and working it suddenly went dead. No power no light. I checked the power cord and power outlet.

IMac :: Intel-Based Unable To Power On - How To Fix It
Apr 19, 2009I have a 17 Inch Intel-based IMac (2006). when I press the power button I can here and feel fans running but the Power Indicator Light turns on and the screen remains black. Nothing else happens. Not sure what I did. I didn't take anything apart. I checked over the whole compartment and all connectors appear to still be connected.
I did some research figured out how to disassemble the IMac, purchased a new hard drive, backed up the computer and when I took it all apart there was a third connector on the hard drive (temp sensor?). The new drive did not have this connector so instead of experimenting I put the computer all back together.
Intel :: 27" IMac Keeps Tripping Power
May 10, 2012I am having a problem with an iMac, whenever I plug it in, it trips the circuit breaker it is on. I don't even have to try and switch it on, its as soon as I plug in the power. When I connect the power cable, I hear a pop sound and then there is no power.

IMac (Intel) :: Printers Are Missing After A Power Outage?
Sep 8, 2014This is now the 4th time this has happened, but this time I have at least what I believe to be a cause. After a power outage of about 30 seconds this past thursday all of my printers attached to my imac have disappeared. Not only this, but when attempting to even press cmd p from any program that I could possibly print from slows down the system to a crawl, and eventually crashes. When going through system preferences the printers menu takes about 10 minutes even come up, and when it does, it's empty. When attempting to add a printer back the system once again slows to a halt eventually not responding. I've tried restarting multiple times, making a new user account (which worked for about 3 months the previous incident happened.) The only thing that has fully fixed this problem in the past was to re image the computer.

Dec 8, 2014While installing windows 7 via bootcamp tonight, I suffered a power failure a minute or two into installation. Upon reboot, I have only a black screen with flashing curse. I have attempted to reboot in safe mode, recovery mode and diagnostic mode, but I think the machine is not recognizing the keyboard.

IMac (Intel) :: Had Green Colors During Two Boots Now Screen Won't Power On?
Jun 24, 2014Suddenly yesterday when I powered mi iMac I had some horizontal green bars on the startup screen then it powered normally. But it happened two times, now every time I power on my iMac the screen stay black, and i can use my computer, everything else is working normally (i still can use Alfred to turn off my computer).
I already tried resetting the Command+Option+P+R, it didn't work. Also the Safe mode.
I have a mid-2011 27' iMac. EMC 2429.

Aug 22, 2014As the title states, I can no longer put my computer to sleep using the power button. I have to put it to sleep using the mouse. I miss the convenience of the power button. The window for energy saver is not like the display in support, it is missing the "Allow the power button to put the computer to sleep" option. Very strange. I am running an older desktop (2009) with Mavericks, fully updated. 10.9.4

IMac Intel :: System Instantly Shut Down / Not Delivering Power To USB Devices
Oct 31, 2007Just recently (this night,) whenever I would unplug my main USB hub, my iMac (Late 2006) would turn off (that is, instantly shut down as if the power had been disconnected). I don't know why this happened, but it turned on immediately afterward so I shrugged it off. The last time this happened, (the 4th time,) the iMac wouldn't turn back on at all.
It responds to power button presses, and you can hear the harddrive spinning up and the CD drive whirring and fans spinning. The sleep light in front stays on, but the display stays black, and it doesn't make the characteristic chime when it "turns on". In addition, it doesn't seem to be delivering power to USB devices, so there's no way that I can boot up from a startup disc or anything to see what's going on.
What do you guys think could be wrong with my computer? I doubt my non-existant applecare would cover anything of this sort, and I'm pretty sure that i'm SOL for hopes of a computer that just works. In addition, one other question. I was working on a VERY important school assignment at the time, (cliche, I know,) so is there any way I can connect another computer to my iMac so I can get my school assignment off of it?

Feb 15, 2009I just bought my Intel-based iMac last night and it took forever to turn on out of the box. I guess I made a mistake by doing a "soft" power down last night, because this morning it will NOT turn on. I've tried using the power button and waiting. I've tried unplugging and plugging it back in, and then using the power button, and waiting. Nothing works. I've been a PC user for 20 years and just bought this, my first Mac, last night. I think I've made a huge mistake! How the heck do you turn these things on????

IMac Intel :: Unable To Turn On System / Shut Itself Down And Refused To Power Back Up
Jun 19, 2008I have a 20" intel-based dual core Mac which i have had for about since early 2006, i haven't had any big issues with it until a few days ago when it suddenly shut itself down and refused to power back up. I ran through the checklist that Apple Support provides, including resetting the SMC by unplugging everything and waiting 15 seconds or so but none of it worked. Eventually I just left the power cord unplugged overnight and in the morning I plugged it back in.
After having the power cord plugged in for a few hours and the machine turned off, i tried pressing the power button again and to my amazement it powered back on! Immediately i ran the TechTool Deluxe software that came with my extended protection plan (now expired) and everything was fine. Later that night however, I had left my computer on for a few hours before returning to it and realizing it had shut itself off again. Now I am back to where I started, going through the checklist provided by Apple and am really starting to get concerned. Does anyone know of anything else I can do, short of taking it in to an Apple store? Or is something needed to be replaced?

Jul 1, 2009my iMac won't turn on. The day before yesterday happened the same thing, but after a few tries with the power button, it eventually turned on - and all ok yesterday. Both the day before yesterday and today, the general power was turned off for some minutes, but the iMac wasn't running. So now, I've tried to reset the SMC, removing everything attached, but nothing.
At least I can clearly hear the tic tic tic button, probably of the timer, because I set up a schedule to let it turn on at a certain hour. What can I do? It's a white iMac, never had a problem.

Jun 19, 2010I have found that by plugging in my Apogee Duet firewire audio interface and ONLY WHEN AppleFWAudio was loaded there was a 10c CPU raise that was making my MBP (late 2008) hot!I wanted to monitor the power that was required for Duet to run and to see if the temperature rise was due to that, so:With Apogee drivers uninstalled (just to be sure its not their drivers related, which is notMBP on battery power with System Profiler opened (to monitor the mA required by the computer from System Profiler -> Power)

There doesn't seem to be a similar document for the Late 2006 iMac's. I'm just wondering if anybody knows the power consumption stats for the older iMac's (the 20" model in particular) - I'm interested to now how the newer models compare as I'll be buying one soon.

May 14, 2009I have an iMac 2.4Ghz 24" about 18 months old. After a visitor's mains powered hard drive (which was later shown to be already faulty!) was connected I lost the power to the USB bus inside the iMac. I can still use devices that need power with an USB port expander but this is far from ideal. USB data is working fine as is the firewire port. Simply the power to the USB. I have reset the PRAM but not yet reset the Power Management Unit. I assume there is no physical fuse for the USB power internally as I have not seen a reference to one anywhere. Should I reset the PMU?
Are the USB and their power integral to the motherboard? On start up I get the error message: "USB Over Current Notice. A USB device is currently drawing too much power. The hub it is attached to will be deactivated." I get this error message even when nothing not even keyboard is plugged in (so its not that faulty keyboard error). There really is no power at the USB ports - but data is working

Feb 7, 2012i have an iMac G5 that i recently bought from one of my dads friends who had never really used it. (he had also bought it used)when i push the power button the fan turns on very quietly and softly. and after a bit it starts to work really hard, no start up sound is heard and the screen doesnt turn on.I have reset the PRAM and the SMU and both methods only worked once in a while.and when it did turn on it would freeze (sometimes after a while and sometimes right off the bat) and id have to shut it down, I have checked the diagnostic LEDs and the power supply is running as it should. only things that are noticable with this computer when i opened it up was that
-there was no fan cover
-the middle screw was stripped
-the power cord isnt an authentic iMac power cord, it looks to be one from an old windows computer or something of that sort.i am also not using an apple mouse or keyboard

Feb 20, 2012My mid-2007 intel iMac 24" won't power on, there is no sound, screen activity or signs of life other than a slight "bzz bzz" when the power button is pressed. Yesterday it was working fine, I put the computer to sleep and when I attempted to wake it the next day, it would not. The optical eye on the mouse was lit and a green led light could be seen reflecting through the memory access door, but the computer made no sounds and would not wake. I held the power button until the mouse turned off and then attempted to reboot. Nov 26, 2010Tried to wake my 24" white iMac from sleep yesterday and discovered that it was off. Pressed the button in back but no go. Unplugged and replugged, pressed the button and it fired up fine. Surfed a bit, then put it back to sleep.
Came back about 3 hours later and it was off again. Unplugged and replugged, pressed the button and nothing. Tried it a couple more times just to check, and no go.
Any ideas? I've had this computer for a little over two years. Bought it used and bought Applecare which expired on.... Nov. 16th. Beautiful timing or what.
