View 6 Repliesdoes the older non-iSight iMac G5 have a built in PSU? (no external brick?)
what does the connector on the back of the iMac look like? (or the plug)
thinking about an older iMac G5 (vesa mountable) for a project Im working on
I have to get a external drive for backup with Time Machine. Everyone says to get Firewire I guess because its faster...but.Do you need to use the power cord for those? I know some USB drives you can only use the USB cable and it powers it which is handy because I move the drive a lot and I hate connecting two cables....do firewire drives need both cables?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI received a new iMac about 2 weeks ago, and I'd like to know how long the battery is suppose to roughly last for the keyboard and magic mouse. When I installed iStat Pro widget, it showed the battery power for my mouse, but the keyboard has never showed up. My mouse has been steadily losing battery power and is now at 28%. However, bluetooth states the power to my keyboard is 100%. This doesn't seem correct.
One other thing I've noticed in the bluetooth menu, under devices, is that the keyboard is labeled as "Apple Wireless Keyboard", while the mouse is title's my name's mouse (I.e.: "Darkroom's Mouse"). This may just nothing, but I'm assuming it's another symptom of my keyboard not being fully read by the OS.
i use a 23" lcd apple cinema HD display now and am happy with it in all respects
i'm thinking of an imac because i need a new computer and can use my 23" display somewhere else
but i'm not sure i'd like to go down in monitor size with the 21" imac and worry the 27 incher would be too huge
i also worry about eye strain as i do suffer from that occasionally (basically from over viewing)
and wonder if the 27'' would exasperate that.
Silly question but i have a samsung syncmaster 2493HM, its my beloved 1080p monitor and has served me well.
Im getting an iMac very soon and looking at the pictures and some videos the screen doesn't look 24". The aluminum bit at the bottom seems to take a lot of space up making the screen look small.
Is the iMac screen as big as my samsungs?
How long is the HDMI to DVI cable on the new Mini? Just want to know.

I was about to buy a new 27-inches i5 iMac, but I'm now reconsidering my decision because of this.
Trying to get a sense of whether or not the Imac screen may be too tall for my desk, which already has an elevated section for monitor placement. Can someone who has a 24 inch Imac tell me how many inches up from the base the screen is (not counting the lip)?

The Mac Pro will be on the side of my desk, maybe 6 ft to where the monitor will be?
I have spent a better part of an hour searching for an answer on MR and google -- no luck!. My Mac Pro sits in a corner underneath my rather large desk and the cable needs to be at least 4 feet long (preferably >4.5 feet).

I'd like an extra cable and I'm not interested in ponying up the dough for the entire power supply. I checked the Apple Store and Macmall, but haven't found anything as of yet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm buying the geekdesk and need to raise my imac about 6 inches to level with my eyes. I don't want to do a wall mount, but does anyone know of another solution instead of stacking books underneath it? I would like something nice as clients will be visiting, so nothing tacky.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI was wondering how I could file share, or make the whole Hard Drive (HDD) accessible to another computer. The two other computers I have are a Toshiba Laptop with Ethernet and USB, and a iMac Intel with Firewire, USB, and Ethernet. Putting these to use along with:Three Ethernet Cables Now how do I get the whole HDD visible to the others computers (either/both) and be able to write to it? Also, I do not want to use CDs and have no CDs that came with the computers. I want to put Xubuntu on the eMac and Debian on the iMacs and erase the rest of the Hard Drives. The computers getting this are the iMac G3s and the eMac G4 in my Signature.

I have macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 purchased in 2012 times. For past few days, I've noticed this problem- I have to long press the power button to switch on the device. Normally, the devices switches on with a simple press on the power button. But for the recent days, when I do a simple press of the power button, I think it switches on and goes off instantly. I had to long press (for around 5-8 seconds) to switch it on. After the device is on, there is no problem at all...

I have searched high and low to find a simple adaptor connection cable to link my Hi Fi to the G4 so that I can record my favorite old LP's and cassettes into iTunes and burn them onto CD with Toast 7 once cleaned up. A wireless unit that works in reverse to the iPod to Hi Fi would be ideal. If I had the technical expertise to design one, assuming not already available somewhere, I would patent this rather than having to have cable traveling from room to room.
The longer the cable the greater the audio loss, if you believe the cable manufacturers. Some of the music I want to record is just not available on CD whether original LPs or in compilations. One artist in particular, Annabel Lamb, I have requested the iTunes Store to incorporate several times with no response. Even the technical Q and A on Roxio's site does not help. Roxannes great the way she tracks the pointer though.

I have a uni-body Macbook Pro (Late 2008) At the time of it's release, Apple was still selling the old type of magsafe power cables... (The one that a lot of people reported having melting and other issues with. )
Well, mine has been fine, (and still works) but I'm starting to get worried about the serious fraying inside the cable casing. (See pictures below) I never ever use the wrapping clips on the adapter to wrap my cable around. I always coil it up loosely, to prevent further damage.
Basically what I'm wondering is, if I bring this into Apple will they replace it for free? Or will I have to pay for it? I do have Apple Care.
Was on my PB last night, went to pick the power cable up by the transformer and it emitted a spark, a little bang and then some smoke.
It was very very hot. It was late, and I was slow to react and it remained plugged into the computer after this had happened still charging it as if nothing had happened.
The computer is fine too.
Basically, I'd like to know if anyone has had a similar issue happen to them, and if I should get a new power cord? Or if you think it is okay to carry on using this one.
I haven't plugged it in since last night to see if it works or not, I am worried it will break the lap top.
