Hardware :: Spyder3Pro Profile Results In Horrible Colours At Angles

Sep 23, 2010

I've been having trouble calibrating my display on my 2010 Macbook Pro with Spyder3Pro properly. The calibrated profile is much warmer unless looked perfectly straight on, which is impossible, and when the screen is tilted down it becomes a deep yellow. I've tried different ambient lighting sources and screen brightness however none of the profiles look good. Has anyone been able to properly calibrate their 2010 Macbook Pro's screen with a Spyder3Pro?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Create A New Profile And Basically Move All Documents Over To The New Established Profile?

Apr 19, 2012

I've mitigated my profile from my older iMini to my new iMini.  Everything worked out fine but I've noticed that [on the new imini] I have to input my password twice.  Once I log on and input my password, my profile comes up and ask me again to input the password.  I also have a unsecured startup deice/item (display) message displayed once the system comes up. Can I create a new profile and basically move all my documents over to the new established profile.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Move Profile Data To New Profile?

Apr 5, 2012

my system fonts are jacked up and fill in lines in Safari are not readable as the text is bigger than the fil in window. Also my laptop is running harder, hotter and the battery life is less than half of what it should be. I also get text overlap line to line sometimes in Safari.

I have restored my OS with a clean install and then recovered my profile from Time Machine, this is how I discovered its my profile. I added a clean profile the first time I rebuilt the mac and it ran much faster, with less hardware usage and longer battery life. Once I began to recover my profile the system was same as always slow with Safari issues mentionee earlier. I switched to the temp user account profile and the system is fast no Safari issues and less intensive activity going on, battery life good etc.

If I rebuild the mac again I am not able to recover the profile/account without issues, I would like to move just what I need to a new profile/account from Time Machine but it doesn't allow access to the original admin account for a selective restore. I would like to be much more granular about the restore and just move my documents and such. I don't want to recover the applications or application data at this point as I don't need it. I would rather re-install just the apps I need at this time. Other option would be to clean my account/profile so that it runs as it should or move everything I want (mostly documents)  to a new profile for improved use.

MacBook Air :: Vertical Viewing Angles - Screen Straight On Or From Above

Oct 23, 2010

In the brief reviews I've seen, the Macbook Air is credited with great viewing angles. I just bought the 11" base model. While the horizontal viewing angles are great, the vertical ones are modest. It's definitely decent if you look at the screen straight on or from above, but it fades quickly and inverts when you look at it from below level even to a modest degree. I have the 2008 unibody aluminum Macbook; the one that was quickly renamed the Macbook Pro and provided with a better screen and an SD slot. To me, the viewing angles are definitely improved but I don't have a Macbook Pro to compare it with, or the previous generation Air.

PowerPC :: IBook Screen Doesn't Work At Certain Angles?

Aug 10, 2006

My mom's iBook G3 has recently started doing this thing where its screen goes dark if you bend it back far enough. Right now the furthest I can open it is so it's at a bit over a 90 degree angle, or else it'll go dark. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

MacBook :: (Late 2007) Back Light Only Works At Certain Angles?

Apr 15, 2010

My 2.2GHz MacBook (3,1) has had an issue for some time now. At first the backlight would flicker as you moved the display from closed to open. The backlight stayed lit through most of the travel. It's gotten progressively worse lately where it will only stay lit at certain angles, and is otherwise black (you can still see the display in sunlight though). Right now it'll only stay lit if I open it very slowly and stop once it lights up.

As I don't have a ton on money to spend, I don't want to just throw parts at it. What could be the issue? Since when it lights up it lights up full brightness and stays lit, I don't think it's an inverter issue. Could it be the inverter board cable?

MacBook Pro :: Horrible Thermal Paste In Brand New MBP?

Jun 19, 2007

Let me start by saying I just bought a brand new, less than a week ago, (from the Apple Store) 17" Santa Rosa MBP with the hi res screen (matte), 160GB 7200 RPM HD, 2.4Ghz CPU and the 256MB 8600 GT. For some more background I am a system administrator and a PC tech so I know what I'm doing with computers (most of the time anyway ). Anyhow, after getting my MBP and installing Vista on it via bootcamp and thoroughly enjoying the dual booting, I notice the thing runs hot. Ok, I do some google'ing and find the various thermal paste horror stories floating around. In windows (I've been spending more time in windows since I got it) I notice that it is IDLING at ~ 53-60C!!! I think perhaps this is not right, something may be wrong with the temp monitor software I use? Well, I use several, one of which is Intel softare called Intel Thermal Analysis Tool that monitors the DTS (Digital Thermal Sensor) in each core, it also will load the pants out of an Intel CPU - ~ 20% higher load than Intel's specified TDC. So for living with the heat for almost a week I decide I must bust the machine open, remove the logic board (mother board for you non apple folk) and see what kind of thermal paste job is in there.

Let me say that removing the logic board from these machines IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!!! It scared the #@#$%$ out of me a few times! I took my time and marked where every last screw went and every cable, even the yellow tape. Once I had the board out and turned it over (the CPU, NB and GPU face DOWN so they can't be seen unless you remove the logic board) the sight was HORRIFIC!!! In my professional opinion they used about 40x too much paste, yes I said FORTY TIMES! All thermal paste is supposed to do is fill the micro groves and pits in the heatsink so VERY LITTLE IS NEEDED! Too much is worse than none. Anyhow, I'm sure you want pics so here they are. Oh, and my idle and LOAD temps dropped by ALMOST 20C!!!

Shame on whoever is assembling these machines as the average user will NEVER fix this and would perhaps think 'this is just how hot it is supposed to run'. I would demand Apple fix this, I would show them pictures etc, etc.

Oh the HORROR!

Now the heat pipe cooling system before:

Here is a CLEAN logic board - From left to right: GPU, North Bridge, CPU:

Proper paste applied - I have some special diamond dust thermal paste that is VERY durable so I used it - I have seen others apply the paste to the chips AND to the heat sinks, THIS IS BAD, VERY BAD!!! ONLY APPLY TO CHIPS.

And finally the cleaned heat pipe cooler:

PowerPC :: Horrible Clicking Noise In IMac G5?

Mar 10, 2008

Yeah, so this morning I woke up and awoke my iMac from sleep only to have it make a horrible clicking noise multiple times and stay frozen on the desktop screen. I restarted it and made it spit out my Lord of the Rings DVD, held down the option key and brought it to the boot menu. Started it up from there and it is running fine, no clicking.

Should I be concerned about that horrible click?

MacBook :: Horrible Noise Emitting From Pro Speakers / Fix It?

Jan 11, 2010

I recently got a brand new 17' unibody MacBook Pro. Although it was brand new, there have been a flare ups. The last time I had the problem, (note: it is always while watching a YouTube video) this is what I captured before quickly closing the window. http://grab.by/1Gjt

That was New Years day. The first time I experienced this problem, I got nothing on the YouTube player and while skipping throughout the video to get it to stream, a noise that can't even be explained screamed out of the computers speakers. Today, I just had the same problem. I have no clue what it is except that I do know it comes from the speakers. Could anyone elaborate on if something similar has happened to you?

Software :: Horrible Cracking Sound With Screen Captures?

Jun 8, 2008

Sometimes (about one-fifth of the time) when I do a screen capture (using Command-Shift-4) there is a horrible loud cracking in place of the camera clicking sound. I have a pair of Yamaha speakers which are about nine years old but they work fine otherwise, no static, play iTunes great, etc.

Is there a setting I can change that would obviate this from happening? It's getting on my nerves because I'm starting to expect it each time, even though it's the exception rather than the rule. Or does it mean my speakers need to be replaced? I don't do anything musically-intensive on my iMac so I can change settings, but I would like to keep a decent basic level of stereo output.

I'm using a first-generation 1.8GHz 20" iMac with 10.4.11, but will probably upgrade to Leopard sometime this summer.

A friend helped me with a picture, and I liked it, I would like to add more color to it? Is there a pre-installed app already on any MB or MBP that is almost 2 years old. (16 months old according to coconut battery.) I'm going to keep trying on my own. I might already know, I've never tried to use photo booth on the picture yet. So if I am wrong, let me know what I need to use.
