PowerPC :: IBook Screen Doesn't Work At Certain Angles?
Aug 10, 2006
My mom's iBook G3 has recently started doing this thing where its screen goes dark if you bend it back far enough. Right now the furthest I can open it is so it's at a bit over a 90 degree angle, or else it'll go dark. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I just noticed while using my Clamshell iBook the other day that the "B" key no longer works on the keyboard. Not sure why all of a sudden it no longer works, but it doesn't. I have tried everything, and no luck.
I guess I want to prolong taking it to Apple as much as I can because of the age of the laptop, I know it won't be cheap to fixand obviously not worth it.
In the brief reviews I've seen, the Macbook Air is credited with great viewing angles. I just bought the 11" base model. While the horizontal viewing angles are great, the vertical ones are modest. It's definitely decent if you look at the screen straight on or from above, but it fades quickly and inverts when you look at it from below level even to a modest degree. I have the 2008 unibody aluminum Macbook; the one that was quickly renamed the Macbook Pro and provided with a better screen and an SD slot. To me, the viewing angles are definitely improved but I don't have a Macbook Pro to compare it with, or the previous generation Air.
i didnt have much to do a couple days ago so i thought i'd install Cheetah on my iBook G4, turned out to be harder than i thought. For some reason it doesnt boot any os prior to Tiger, so I installed Tiger and copied an image of the Tiger OS with the OS 9.2 (i think you have to have it on the system to install prior OS's). So i did that and when i pop the Cheetah cd in it loads and opens OS 9.2 but then it says: "This Application Does Not Run In The Classic Environment - To Install Mac OS X, start up your computer from the Mac OS X CD." Which i did but still doesnt load. I still have an old PowerBook G3 and installed Cheetah on it, then i removed its hd, and created a new sparse image from it. Then i booted up Tiger on the ibook g4 and restored from the image, all went fine, i selected the correct boot device and even repaired permissions but still it doesnt want to boot up Cheetah on the iBook!
I have a 4 month old iBook 12" 1.33/512/40/combo with the following problem. It went into sleep mode and never woke up. after complete reboot 1 long beep and silence. after taking the battery out and disconnect for about 4 hours I get the beep, but inbetween absolute nothing. Anyone has tips or a solution. there is no additional memory installed.
Quick (hopefully!) question: Will RAM from a G4 Powerbook 1.33 GHz (PC2700) work in an iBook G4 1.2 GHz, which normally takes PC2100?
Reason for the question is that I have one of each, and am going to sell the iBook. I'd like to transfer one of the 256 Mb sticks from the PB to the iBook and then replace that stick with a 1 Gb stick.
I have a white g3 ibook dual usb. I put in a bigger hard drive and can't install tiger which is a cd not dvd that boots fine in my imac. Cd drive will not eject with eject (f12) key or fn f12. I have to pull it open manually. I can reset the nvram by booting into firmware and typing reset all. I can't boot up to a screen with a refresh arrow and a right arrow that I can click on but nothing happens. All I get a start up is a folder with a blinkin face question mark.
just installed 10.5.6 on their last gen. iBook. She left the iBook plugged in to the mains and came back to find that the iBook was alternating between the grey Apple screen and a light blue desktop screen where she could see the cursor. Sometimes it would also switch to a blue screen without a cursor.
I've tried holding shift during startup - no effect. I've tried rebooting NVRAM - no effect.
My iBook will not display anything on its screen. Rather, it just remains black. One time, the screen did come on, but then shortly after booting, it flickered a lot and then went black again. A year ago, something similiar happened and when I took it to be serviced (when I had AppleCare), they had to send it away and have a new logic board installed. Now this machine is out of warrenty and and I am not sure what to do, or even if it is the same problem. Any suggestions?? Thanks!
Ever since I sold it here on MR and got it back, there has been a problem with my 12" Dual USB iBook G3 500MHz's screen (lord, that's a long name). Whenever the screen is tilted back farther than 45 degrees or so, the backlight shuts off. I can open the casing and fix it if it's possible. Does anyone know what the problem with it is? I'm trying to get it fixed up and ready to sell back to my friend as his first Mac, and I'm trying to get every problem resolved
broken ibook. after starting it up for the first time the internal harddrive and the touchpad dont work. when i attach an external usb mouse i can boot from cd. is this a logic board failure and i am out of luck or could it just be a loose connection or something else repairable?
I have a iBook G4 with a broken backlight. The iBook was custom painted Maroon (Only the back part of display and around the keyboard), and I don't like it. Will an iBook G3 12" display work on the G4?
This iBook G4 will not boot. I can boot it into safe mode, but that is about it. I have tried resetting the PRAM, to no avail. It cannot even boot off of an OSX disc. When I try to boot it normally, it just shows the Apple symbol, but no progress wheel thing spinning. When I try to boot it normally, it appears as if the hard drive is not being read from/written to, because it is dead silent, but when I boot into safe mode, you can hear the HDD noise. When I booted into safe mode, I checked the HDD's SMART status, and it says "Verified," so I do not think that the HDD is at fault. However, it still has its original HDD from 2004.
I have a Logitech Mediaplay Mouse that will not work on my iBook: it reads the receiver, but nothing about the mouse works. At first I thought it was because it must use a non-standard driver (and OS X isn't officially supported in the documentation), but after a little experimentation I've found that it works perfectly on my Cube (running Panther), my dad's Powerbook G4 (Tiger), my brother's Sawtooth G4 (Tiger), and every PC I have. My dad and brother don't use USB Overdrive, but the mouse worked perfectly with USB Overdrive on my Cube and it doesn't work on my iBook whether USB Overdrive is installed or not. I have never had any problems with peripherals and my iBook before. I love this mouse, so someone please help me figure how to make it work!
i splashed some theraflu on the right side of the keyboard approximately 3 days ago. as many had mentioned, i removed the keyboard and carefully removed any liquid residue i could find and kept my computer off for a few days. today i went to figure out the damage and everything seems to work okay in terms of the computer turning on and stuff. the keyboard is still acting up though. the left side of the keyboard works mostly okay, but if i press certain letters, the number along with random number appears. the right side of the keyboard, on the other hand, several keys don't even respond at all. from these "symptoms" do you guys think the only thing that i may have to replace is the keyboard or could these "symptoms" i've described be related to some other damage also? how much does replacing a keyboard usually cost? i'm thinking this isn't going to be covered by my warranty. lastly, i've noticed that when i do turn the computer on, it automatically starts in safe-mode.
I'm internal-HD-shopping for a friend, and want to make sure I know: What terminology will identify drives I can put in this iBook? I know it's 2.5"--what else should I make sure of? Also--any kinds that would be better than others? It's a 14" G3 with Firewire and DVD-ROM. "New" as G3s go.
I have a 24" dell external monitor that I use with my 17" MBP. My wife would like to hook up her 12" ibook to the 24" monitor. Is this possible, and what cables would I need?
I have an iBook G4 14" 1.33 768mb 60HD with 10.4.11 installed as it has previous users, i want do to a total clean up on it, but I dont have the original disks, where could I find them? or find a way to do a restore on it?
I have a MacPro(2006-07) which came with Tiger also but I Tried on the macbook thinking it would work, but it doesnt, when it boot up shows like a black log screen saying that Drives for powerbook 5.6 havent been found something like that, and asks t turn it off.. tried like 3 times, all the same, so I quit.
All I want is reinstall tiger in it, since Leopard probably will slow it down too much, im upgrading to 1.25gb soon also...
i dropped my powerbook and now it doesn't work. i charged it and tried powering it on but nothing happened. however i connected my ipod and it got charged.
I have been given an iBook G3 l2 in. laptop. It has mac OS X 10.4.11 operating system.I went to the site for downloading windows media player and was told to use the flip4 mac . It keeps telling me mac error-50 and will not open.I have downloaded it 4 times and each time I get the same results.
Ok so my iMac g3 has a left speaker that doesn't work. The right one works fine and when I turn the volume up the left speaker kind of buzzes. Is it even worth replacing the internal speaker? (IIRC it looks pretty difficult)
