OS X Mountain Lion :: Can Use Different Colours For The Different User Accounts In ICal
Sep 8, 2014
I have my own iCal and one for my boss. I need our appointments to show up in different colours so that I can tell at a glance which are mine and which are his. Currently our appointments show up on the same calendar, on top of each other, and both are coloured red.
Just moved to Mavericks. My very first action is to search for my important folders with colour. Very first question why has coloured folders been removed? This makes an Apple computer much more difficult to use. Which person suggested this change and why did they do it?

I have three e-mail accounts. They duly appear in the Mail sidebar. I have dragged them into the order in which I want them, with the one I almost always use at the top and my college one (which I prefer only to use for college business) at the bottom. But quite often they — spontaneously, it seems — move around and put themselves into an order that I do not like, with the result that I accidentally send messages from the wrong e-mail address. Why do they do this, and how can I stop them and fix them in place?
All of my iMail accounts/mailboxes disappeared overnight (two nights ago). I did not delete the accounts/mailboxes, nor was anyone else using this computer (a MacBook Pro). Did make one change before this happened: I setup a LogIn Password. Running OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. Time Machine not setup (so no backup). Using iCloud but not for Mail.
I had two accounts on my laptop, both were admins. I updated to Yosemite, had issues with compatibility to other Apple software, restored the laptop and both accounts lost their admin rights.
We have several user accounts setup on our family imac. Is it possible to have two or even three user accounts running at the same time where I can just quickly switch between the accoints without having to log in and out? A second and seperate question: Is there any SW that can monitor my childs account activity that runs in the background and just sends me a report on what has been done on the computer?Â

I spent some time avoiding Lion after being part of seeding, even to the extent of buying a new MacPro last year, that would not require Lion. I wish to stay with Snow Leopard until a new OS apeals to me, might be Mountain Lion, might be Puma or Lynx. I now see that I have been caught out - MobileMe, iCal, iSync, iDisk etc will end and move (with limited comparability to MobileMac) to iCloud, and so far, it seems that this requires Lion exclusively!Â
Is this really so? Has Apple really become so violently unfriendly to its friends and associates - its Users, that it will actively and knowingly ignore their pleas, for a return to intelligent Operating Systems and Applications - I was told recently that Apple was only interested in those who are not yet Mac users. This would be very sad.Â
It does fit though with Apple's behaviour regarding FCP - I'd used used FCP since version 1, now I must stay with the ever aging version 7 or go to Adobe or Avid - neither of whom I enjoy working with. I might just have to invest huge money into a Heavyworks or Quantel system - I loathed FCPX! But really this is ultimately about Apple's direction. Why has it now become so narrow, when once it was possible to be many versions behind the current and still function?

I have used iCal and now Calendar for many years. For every event, I choose to show "Message with Sound" for the alert. In the past few weeks, I noticed I no longer get any on-screen pop-up message. Not sure of the proper term for that, but my choice for each event is the same: "Message with Sound", so maybe it is called "message". I do get the sound alert, just am now missing the tiny even message window that used to pop up.Â
Here is an odd chain of events...
I looked in ~/Preferences to try trashing something, found only "com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist" as an obvious choice. I expected to find com.apple.Calendar.plist, but no such file. When I launched Calendar, it showed no change at all in any of my preference settings, and I do have several settings that are not default, such as "Start week on Monday" and "Alerts > Event: At time of event" instead of 15 minutes before.Â
After re-launching Calendar, I noticed a new file, "com.apple.Calendar.plist" appeared in ~/Preferences. I always use column view, so it isn't possible that i missed it before; this file was not there before. Nonetheless, the alert sounds with no message window issue continues. How to restore the alert window?
I have One Single External HHD for Time Machine. Will this Drive do time Machine Back ups for each user. The Time Machine Prefrences are kept at the factory set up, in other words nothing added + and nothing deleted - from time machine Scheme?Â

I've just added the macbook pros that were recently purchased, (NOT retina Displays) boo i know.. THey are in AD able to place them and moved them around into different groups. I'm able to sign in when i'm on the network. WHEN I'M OFF THE NETWORK IT DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO SIGN IN. In windows it builds a profile for you so i checked that it does create a profile folder under users but still not able to sign in (locally)? not really locally?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Able to Bind, NO offline signin.
I am not sure how it happened but after upgrading the gmail account, the user accounts were changed from standard users to Mobile Me users. None of the users has ever had that type of account, and I am trying to figure out how to get it back to a standard user account. When the user attempts to log in, it asks for the user name, but also the Mobile Me user name (which they do not have). to make it worse, Mobile Me is no longer accpting new users, so I annot just add an account and log in using the new info.
If I upgrade Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (on a 2009 MacBook 5.2), is the update limited to OS X or can I also expect to see upgrades to free apps like Address Book, Mail and iCal? If the free apps do not change to match the latest versions available, can I expect updates to the free apps soon?
I've decided to remove the ability for users on my computer to decrypt my FileVault 2-encrypted drive using their account passwords. Is there any way to do so without having to decrypt and re-encrypt all my data?
Every file created within the Shared folder is automatically a "read-only" for all other users. How can I make all users able to edit all files within the Shared folder? - The "Apply to enclosed items" does only apply settings to existing files. This means that for every new file you add, you have to press "Apply to enclosed items". - Surely there must be a way to apply the folders setting to all future content? All I want is for this folder to function as any external hard drive; accessible by all accounts without any restrictions!
I need my mail to filter junk and apply rules even when other users are logged in. Does that mean I have to user fast user switching, or do the open apps not work when you switch users ?
Recently all the Mac's in my household forced a password change for both of the user accounts that I have on them. These are local accounts not domain accounts. It appears that something has expired the password on all my machines at around the same date. I do not or at least did not have a password policy set on these machines prior to this incident. I have searched the release notes for recent OS X updates and have not found any reference that explains this behavior. Hence, I am concerned that this could be malware/trojan activity however none of the scanners I have tried has detected any malware.
I just installed Lion 10.4.7 upgrade on my iMac (only 6 months old). I have 5 user accounts on this iMac (A, B, C, D and Guest). With prior version of Lion, these would all be displayed in the login window for selection. Now, with 10.4.7, depending upon the resolution in effect by a user when he logs out, if it is a lower resolution (i.e., 1024X768) the login window will not contain the rightmost user selections, D and Guest in this example. If the user had a higher resolution (i.e., 1920X1080) all 5 users account selections will be visible. An individual user's desired resolution should not be effecting the login window, should it?
Every time I try to log into my webmail from my computers or iPhone, I get an incorrect user name or password error message and haven't been able to receive my mail in my inbox. The server (Cox Communications) is telling me I need malware or spyware or whatever the heck one uses for this type of thing. I've never had to worry about that before but have recently posted items on Ebay, Craigslist and also a resume online which is about the time I seemed to start having problems with my server connection.Â
I have a 5s iPhone, an OSX Mountain Lion and a Lion and it is happening on all three devices
I have multiple user accounts on my iMac - one for general use by my wife and I, and one for my son with various parental settings on place. I've just set up a second account for my personal use, and I want Mail to access all the same email accounts that the general one does. Is tehre an easy way of copying all the accounts across so that I'll get the same emails regardless of whether I'm signed in under the general account or my new one?
When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user. Â
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.  Â
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account. Â
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out. Â
I have 5 accounts on my iMac. On the main account I have all of the family's calendars. I want to share the kids' calendar on their own account of the computer. Can I do that? I have tried mobile me and I just got frustrated with the duplicates. So I deleted it.
I want to sync the iCal on all the accounts on my iMac so the kids can see the calendar in their accounts. I am sure this is probably very easy but I can't seem to manage it.
I have problems with synchronizing iCal with iCloud calender accounts on my Mac Pro running OS 10.6.8. (Error message "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden" pa handlingen CalDAVAccount RefreshQueueableOperation.) It works fine on iOS devices.
This is my first post as the soon to be proud owner of a 2010 13" MBP. I'm looking to copy all tunes/photos/settings from my 2006 mini and of course I've got questions:
1- Anyone do a new setup via wireless? I'm going to use a Linksys wireless N and was curious on a time estimate (I know its gonna be slow...). 2- The mini has all settings under my wife's user account...if I just transfer everything as is then I'll end up with my new MBP info being under her name as well. How can I get the files and settings that are under her name to show up under mine on the new MBP?
I'm the only person who uses my Mac, and wanted to know if I could completely get rid of user accounts. I have no password set, so it's really just a waste of time to have to press "OK" everytime I need to authorize anything.
Is there anyway I could eliminate ever having to authorize anything on Leopard or remove the need for a user account?
Is it possible to create a set of users accounts on one Mac and 'copy' them to another without having to do a full migration? I don't mean copying and pasting but using an application to clone them and place them on a target machine, if you know what I mean?
I want to be able to login to two user accounts at the same time, so essentially using two screens, one for reach account. It is so I can access the same game online as two diferent users at the same time. Is this possible?
