View 1 RepliesI started cleaning out my MC. So today I found the "All Images" smart folder. I opened it and selected all 9000 contents and deleted, I got worried and stopped the process. I think 3000 images deleted. Then I turned off computer. Are these files necessary? Can I restore them?

I've noticed that finder, automatically saves unnecessary spam images and mixes them in with my important images, is there someway of either adding a spam label, to them, so they end up in another folder, or completely stopping the saving process entirely?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy main user account went haywire at the weekend - dock disappearing and Finder cycling and rebooting every few seconds. I fixed those issues by trashing the dock and finder .plist files, and all appears to be well except...I cannot access the Applications folder without the Finder crashing. All other folders appear fine.- I can access the Applications folder using another user- I can access the apps themselves from spotlight- I tried trashing .DS_Store - no difference.

All I can see is the finder menubar, but it's not active. I've tried using Quicksilver to move it back into the Applications folder, but it gives me an error each time. I've also tried opening the Pictures folder in terminal like this: open ~/Pictures/ but it obviously can't open until I move the Finder app.

My application folder appears to have "split" from the applications shortcut in the Finder window. The shortcut under Favorites contains all my applications, while the folder itself contains none...When I get info on both of them, I see the following:
App Shortcut: "Where: /"
App Folder: "Where: /Users/SarahSteeds"Â
Also, I've only had one new software download that saved itself to the Applications folder (at location "/Users/SarahSteeds"). All others have been directed to the shortcut (at location "/")

Attached you'll see two images. The first, 'Applications Folder', is how I want my Applications Folder to look whenever I access it directly (i.e. from the Go menu in the Finder Menu Bar, or from an alias or from the Dock by right-clicking, Open "Applications").
Finder used to remember this appearance perfectly. I can't remember exactly when this started, but now whenever Finder is restarted (killall Finder or a reboot) it completely forgets the settings for the Applications folder and opens it as shown in the second image, 'Finder Bug'. That's the far right of the screen, by the way. Not only does it forget the size and position of the folder's window, it also resets the grid spacing to the default value.
It only does it for this folder...I've already tried removing the .DS_Store file many times, so it's not an issue with that file. I've also run clean-up scripts and repaired permissions. It's bugs like this that still make me long for Tiger.
jpg display in MacBook Finder no longer shows image, just JPG icon, no matter which file or folder I try to look at. How do I reset to show actual images?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 10,000 images & documents (if you click on the finder icon & go to images or documents) on my computer - my question is: can I delete these? Some I do not know how they got there. Or do I just leave them alone.

Anyway, one of my home folders for a user account has gone missing. when you are logged into the account it belongs to you can navigate to it via finder. However you cannot see the folder via finder from any other account. This account is NOT an admin. I had this problem when I was running tiger and it still remains now that I have leopard. 2Ghz INtel core 2 duo Aluminum iMac.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a macbook pro after using PC for many years. All my pictures are on the iphoto application.
What I've noticed is that if I go to the All Images folder in Finder, I can see that I have duplicate pictures and all have different sizes. What I want to know if I delete them, would I delete the ones that are in iphoto?
I can't figure this out. I'm trying to use smart folders to search for images within a certain folder and the sub-folders it contains.
The problem is, I can't figure out how to limit the search locations. The only options it provides are to search "this mac" or "(username)".
I've tried to use 'location' (set to match the folder name), but this brings up zero results.
Some instructions found by googling said to first use spotlight to select the folder I'd like to confine the search to before making the smart folders, but this doesn't work either.
I am wondering if anyone has an update on when finder will show a thumbnail for the raw files from the Canon 5d mark III? I've done all the updates possible and nothing has changed, I can't do a quick preview either, it just shows the extension image, not the actual image taken. (The symbol for crw).

I'm low on internal hard drive space. Am using Time Machine. It appears that Time Machine is creating disk images in my downloads folder, taking up even more space. Is there some way to limit or stop that process and just use Time Machine to back up.

My mac with SL is unable to compress a big 1GB folder... It just stays stuck at the end of the process with no activity anymore in the Activity Monitor.
Can you try to reproduce this ? Just pick a big 1GB folder, right click on it and "Compress"... and post if it's successful or not.
I'm using eclipse and a need to select where the LibreOffice is installed. But the Finder.app don't permitte me to select the LibreOffice.app as a folder.

organize folders in finder in a custom order?
I am making folders for each lecture I have, the names of the folders are the dates of the lectures. Then each folder will have two empty word documents with the date as the name as well, one for the lecture and one for tutorial.
I would like to have it in order and stay that way, right now its all over the place, I've tried organizing by name, and last date modified and no luck.
I accidentally dragged a document into the top bar of the finder. Now when I open the finder, there is a document on the top of the gray bar at the top of the finder window. When I try to click on it to drag it away, it automatically opens the document. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been customizing my folders using the View Options window in each folder separately, and I was wondering if there was an application or script that would change my view options (font sizes, icon size and spacing, background image, etc) for ALL folders, on a system-wide level.
I know there has to be a way to do it, but every time I try, I only change settings for the parent folder. Sorta 2 part question, I guess... How do I change the text underneath "Macintosh HD" such as "500GB, 457GB free." I know it's a string that can be changed, but I've forgotten where it's located.
I did the shift/commend/g sequence and up came the library, but I want one folder in my sidebar on the finder. How do I do that?Â

Can one change the KIND (as in "Sort by Kind") of a FOLDER from "Folder" (as seen in Finder) to Something else?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI frequently want to grab a ton of junk on say my desktop and sort them into folders. Process is "make new folder, select all the items I want to go in it, drag them to it, name folder, move folder to where I want". What I want it to be able to do is select all those items and have a contextual menu command "Make New folder from selected". Ideally, popping up an Open/Save dialog letting me choose where to put the new folder and allowing me to name it. On closing dialog, I have my new renamed folder with all my selected stuff in it, wherever I want on my HD with no extra dragging and clicking. Does this sound worthwhile to anyone else? Am I missing some way that this can be done? Seemed like an obvious thing to me, was kind of puzzled to discover (AFAIK) no way to do it.
