My mac with SL is unable to compress a big 1GB folder... It just stays stuck at the end of the process with no activity anymore in the Activity Monitor.
Can you try to reproduce this ? Just pick a big 1GB folder, right click on it and "Compress"... and post if it's successful or not.
Lion 10.7.4: "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access" when compressing folder On Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4: I am trying to compress a large folder to move to an external RAID. When I try to compress on the same drive location I get "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access...". It seems certain files in the directory permissions are not set properly. I have tried changing the folder and all contain files permission through "Get Info" and it appears to complete without errors.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAnyway, one of my home folders for a user account has gone missing. when you are logged into the account it belongs to you can navigate to it via finder. However you cannot see the folder via finder from any other account. This account is NOT an admin. I had this problem when I was running tiger and it still remains now that I have leopard. 2Ghz INtel core 2 duo Aluminum iMac.

I have a sound file I want to attach to an e-mail so I can send it to a friend.
I originally had it in wav form with a size of 482 MB. I converted it to mp3 via iTunes, with a resultant size of 54.7 MB.
I recently shot a video using the camera on the Iphone 3GS. It was over 7 mins long and its 198 MB! This is not a desirable size since i wish to upload it, so i was wondering if anyone can tell me a FREE software which i can use to compress it and maintain the same quality. By the way i am using the 27" Imac so any software should be for mac.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm averaging about 2-3 kernel panic "crashes" daily. I took my MP to the local Apple Store. They ran all of their tests and could not find a thing wrong with it. I've purchased Tech Tool Pro. The TTP diagnostics have come up with nothing. I use machine at work primarily for video editing/compression/authoring. The kernel panic(s) seem to occur when I'm outputting or compressing video files from Final Cut or Sorenson Squeeze.
Here are some of my basic machine specs:
2 x Quad Intel Xeon
5 GB 667 MHz DDR@ FB-DIMM
Video Card: ATI Radeon X1900
Serial ATA HDDs
I want it to UNZIP a zip file, not zip it further, but it keeps compressing it into a .cpgz file instead of opening it.

I had a file that was 321mb's and when I compressed it, it brought it down to 317mb's. Obviously that didn't do me any good. Does anyone have a program or another suggestion?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Time Machine (for the first time) to back up my system (Mac Pro w/750Gb internal drive and a firewire 750Gb external backup). However, when looking at the contents of my external backup drive after Time Machine has finished, I notice there is sizeable difference between the amount of data on my internal and external drives. To confuse matters more, I repeated the backup 3 separate times on the same internal volume (357Gb worth of data) and each time Time Machine yielded a different size backup; ranging from 343Gb to 350Gb. Each time I have "erased" the external drive using Disk Utility prior to running Time Machine.
After digging around I found at least some of the difference lies within the Movies_IDVD Projects folder. I have only a few projects but it appears that Time Machine randomly chose a few of the larger ones to compress? Either that or it did not back them up all the way. These files were roughly 2-4Gb in size on my internal and only 200kb on the backup drive. Are there other files that Time Machine is either compressing or not backing up? Should I use Time Machine at all or should I copy the files I want backed up by dragging them to the external? I would like to be able to restore my system to its current state one day if/when my internal drive craps out (including all of my apps, etc.).
I'm using eclipse and a need to select where the LibreOffice is installed. But the Finder.app don't permitte me to select the LibreOffice.app as a folder.

organize folders in finder in a custom order?
I am making folders for each lecture I have, the names of the folders are the dates of the lectures. Then each folder will have two empty word documents with the date as the name as well, one for the lecture and one for tutorial.
I would like to have it in order and stay that way, right now its all over the place, I've tried organizing by name, and last date modified and no luck.
I accidentally dragged a document into the top bar of the finder. Now when I open the finder, there is a document on the top of the gray bar at the top of the finder window. When I try to click on it to drag it away, it automatically opens the document. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI frequently want to grab a ton of junk on say my desktop and sort them into folders. Process is "make new folder, select all the items I want to go in it, drag them to it, name folder, move folder to where I want". What I want it to be able to do is select all those items and have a contextual menu command "Make New folder from selected". Ideally, popping up an Open/Save dialog letting me choose where to put the new folder and allowing me to name it. On closing dialog, I have my new renamed folder with all my selected stuff in it, wherever I want on my HD with no extra dragging and clicking. Does this sound worthwhile to anyone else? Am I missing some way that this can be done? Seemed like an obvious thing to me, was kind of puzzled to discover (AFAIK) no way to do it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs far as I can see, someone on my work mac right clicked on the 'Downloads' folder and set the 'Open With' option to 'Preview'.
As such, when the icon is clicked every item in the Downloads folder opens in preview (massive pain) and there are issues with the folder working on the dock. I tried changing the 'open with' option on the Downloads folder myself but there isn't anything appropriate to change it back to. I assumed finder but that isnt an option.
My main user account went haywire at the weekend - dock disappearing and Finder cycling and rebooting every few seconds. I fixed those issues by trashing the dock and finder .plist files, and all appears to be well except...I cannot access the Applications folder without the Finder crashing. All other folders appear fine.- I can access the Applications folder using another user- I can access the apps themselves from spotlight- I tried trashing .DS_Store - no difference.

I have tried to open it in iMovie, but it will not recognize it. Do I need to convert the VOB files or something? Do I need software like Toast or is there anything I need to download online?
