OS X :: DWHelper - Empty Folder In Finder
Aug 30, 2009This folder is in my finder, does anyone know what it is? The folder is empty when I click on it, nothing is in it, Zero kb in get info window.

OS X :: Why Dwhelper Folder In Mac Desktop
Aug 18, 2010I am using Macbook Version 10.4.11. This morning my 2.5YO son played around with the Macbook (I think Firefox was open at that time) when we were asleep. By the time we came out, we saw 2 new folders in our Macbook: "dwhelper" (14.23GB) and "Library" (3.87GB in size). Please refer to attached jpg file. We also noticed that all of the settings I had in the Mac has disappeared, for instance all my iTunes setups (musics, iphone apps etc) and Firefox bookmarks have disappeared.

May 9, 2012My application folder appears to have "split" from the applications shortcut in the Finder window. The shortcut under Favorites contains all my applications, while the folder itself contains none...When I get info on both of them, I see the following:
App Shortcut: "Where: /"
App Folder: "Where: /Users/SarahSteeds"
Also, I've only had one new software download that saved itself to the Applications folder (at location "/Users/SarahSteeds"). All others have been directed to the shortcut (at location "/")

Aug 26, 2014New folders do not open empty but have contents from a subfolder of finder. I also had an empty folder on desktop so I renamed it & opened it only to find the same content.

Apr 4, 2012I've been trying to empty files in trash, and everytime I do, it brings up a new finder window and says that it's preparing to move to trash, but it's already in trash. When I try to take it out of trash it says that it's copying the file to my desktop.

Apr 18, 2012I have no idea why this happened but now when I open Finder, my desktop, documents, applications and everything else don't show the files I know are there. I also had several files on my desktop that are no longer showing. This is really annoying because I can't access my documents and downloads which I really need to get to right now. I can't think of anything I did to have triggered this but its been like this for at least a few days. I have a Macbook Pro and Lion.

Nov 30, 2014For some times now I have problems with finder. First I thought it was a problem accessing the network but I also have the problem with the local folders!!
After logging to my account, it works well for some times and then suddenly (may be after accessing machine on my network - Synology NAS) finder begin to show all folders as they are empty!!!
The funny thing is that if for instance I do a "file/open" within an app or do an attachment and so access a "windows like finder" it works!!
But if I use the finder ... folders are empty (shown as ...).
The only thing to get everything back is to restart the computer (and many times I have to hard stop the machine as the finder is not working anymore and my mac mini don't want to restart. I keep the desktop background and nothing happened!!
The strange thing is that it seems I don't have the problem on my MacBook Pro!! The mac mini was a clean install!

Dec 10, 2014I've been having troubles with my finder the past few weeks. The trash would not empty unless I would "relaunch" the finder. Sometimes, even after a relaunch, the trash would still not empty. After a restart, however, I could usually empty the trash. Until today
So, I tried repairing permissions using disk utility. After permissions were fixed, I still had the problem.
I then deleted the following files:
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist.lockfile
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
com.apple.finder.plist.lockfile
com.apple.finder.plist
(Actually, I didn't truly delete them, I just put them in a temp folder on my desktop.)
The trash seems to empty just fine now, but now the preferences pane for my Finder is completely blank -- and doesn't open immediately. It looks like this:

Mar 12, 2010Anyway, one of my home folders for a user account has gone missing. when you are logged into the account it belongs to you can navigate to it via finder. However you cannot see the folder via finder from any other account. This account is NOT an admin. I had this problem when I was running tiger and it still remains now that I have leopard. 2Ghz INtel core 2 duo Aluminum iMac.

Dec 4, 2014I had a .iso file that has got files in it. When I dismount it I see all the files being copied to a folder but when it finishes all there is, is an empty folder. Mar 23, 2009I went through and deleted a lot of stuff then when I was emptying the trash it said that there was a locked file so I found out were it was pulled it out and then got rid of everything else there are about 720 locked files in the folder then I tried to find a quicker way to delete it then I found out how to unlock them so I went to pull them out but it just made a copy of it so now and I put it back in the trash not thinking about how that just adds on to the files so how can I get them out or make it so I can press continue just once for them all to go away.

I'm interested in doing the same thing with a desktop folder. I know that time machine and what not gives me recovery options for things I delete, but this is a bit different. This is for items that I want to delete, just not right now. What I'd like it to do is delete items after they've been in the folder for some specified period of time, like 60 or 90 days.

Mac Pro (early 2009), 8 core
Bay 1: OS X drive - 10.6.2
Bay 2: Boot Camp drive (Windows XP SP3, running Boot Camp drivers v3.0)
Bay 3: Storage drive (HFS+ formatted)
When I boot into Windows, my OS X drive is perfectly viewable, except that the /Users/username folder appears to be completely empty, if I manually type a path (such as D:UsersusernameDesktop or D:UsersusernameDownloads) then the contents will show up perfectly, but when navagating to the D:Usersusername, Windows shows that folder as empty. I'm running just the Boot Camp 3.0 drivers (i.e. no Macdrive), but I also have VMWare Fusion 3.0 installed on my OS X drive, with my Boot Camp partition set up as a virtual machine. Could this be masking the folder contents from Windows?

I had not done anything I am aware of to m ove the contents of the folder to the trash. I do have a backup but it is a little more than 2 months old and I know there have been changes since then so recovered the folder is vital.

May 8, 2010Im recently registered but have been lurking the site for a few months now waiting for the new MBPs to come out. They came out and I got one (my first mac) but I have 2 issues.
1. There is a folder in my documents folder, from a program i manually installed via CD that keeps reappearing. Everytime i delete it, it comes back when i restart the computer. I have already uninstalled the program, but the empty folder keeps coming back.
2. Also, when i try and right click -->open with a video file, VLC comes up twice, any way to make it only appear once?
