So, similar to use on a PC, I have my POP3 accounts setup so that any computer that I download mail to, and then DELETE this mail from the deleted items folder, it will update the server and not show it for download to OTHER computers or clients that I use to access the POP3 account.
but, on the mail.app program, I cannot seem to find this very common setting. Is it somewhere that I am missing?
When using Mail (and on iPad and iPhone) , mail is not really getting deleted.I can check it on one device and delete it but it always continues to show up on the other devices until I delete it on that device.I end up having to delete everything 3 times. (yes, they are all set to delete from server) This is POP on both Comcast.net and local ISP.

Currently when I delete the message in Mail, the server still keep a copy of it, which means it is not deleted on the server. I know that POP can do this but I still want the option of being able to access it from other computers.
My server has only a small size, so I hope that I can just delete it from my Mail instead of having to log in to the server and delete it again.
I have 128 GB HDD and many emails syncing by Gmail IMAP. Thousands of emails are stored on my HDD and most of them I will never use in the future. Despite this I'd like to keep them in gmail server, just for case...
I was trying to reduce size of my Mail.app for very long time and nothing works correctly.
Ideal situation would be something like this:
E-mails older than 2 months will automatically delete from Mail.app but not from server. Or it doesn't have to be automatic, but I have to keep them on gmail.com. I'm not sure if it is possible with IMAP.

As I am working on my mail server I would like to ensure that I have some form of back system to prevent me from looosing e-mail messages in the future, specially those that are business related. Once in a while we experience a power outage and I would hate to loose an important business e-mail sent to us at a time when the mail server is down.
1. Is there a way to have/use a remote secondary mail server so that in case an e-mail is sent but can't be delivery to our mail server, it is then re-routed to this secondary mail server so that it isn't lost. In this case how should this be set-up both on the server in OS X 1.6.8 and on the outside?
2. I plan to set up an account with Google or another e-mai service provider but would like my e-mail to use my own domain name instead. How simple would this be to set UP? Will Google allow the creation of e-mail accounts with the use of domain names other than its own?
For some reason Mail won't delete my sent messages - deleting them just changes the subject / sender line colour from black to grey but they don't go anywhere.

I can right click it, select delete. And it gives the warning. I select OK and it does nothing. I have tried it through the menu system too, and the same result.
Any idea how to delete the mailbox? The deal is I set it up to an email that I cannot access via POP and it is constantly trying to access it but can't, obviously.

This is something I find really annoying. I cant stand the clutter of old messages, so junk mail made a permanent fixture urks me even more.
I work on 2 machines and they are having similar isues
1) A Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5
I have one message stuck in my inbox, when I select it and click delete, it just turns grey. and if i drag the message to the trash nothing happens. When I classify it as junk mail it disapears (does not go to the junk mail folder), but when I go back to the inbox its there again. This message contains no data, nothing shows in the preview panel and I cant find a file for it on the hardrive (Home / Library / Mail)
2) New 17" macbook pro laptop
On this machine Im having the same problem as above, but with a couple messages. There is also a bunch of messages in the junk mail folder I cant erase.
Does anyone have any ideas here? I really dont want to backup / wipe / restore Mail on both computers.
And with this happening on both my machines, I cant be the only one having this problem...
If I send a file (images, docs, etc.) through Mail.app, and then try to trash that file through Finder, I get an error message when I attempt to empty the trash: "The operation can't be completed because "filename" is in use." I can do a secure empty trash but want to be able to use the shortcut keys. Thanks for the help.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been troubleshooting this for over an hour now. My AOL account wont send msgs only receive them. Everytime i try to send i get the error below, i run a diagnostic and mail says it connects with the server fine but sending messages is a no go area.
I've quadruple checked the settings and they seem fine.
When I open my mail app and delete a message, it deletes it from my mail app inbox. When I log on to gmail, I see the mail still there. Is there anyway to delete from mail, and have it remove the message from gmail altogether?

So I've recently migrated back to Mail after a long hiatus and set up my Gmail account with IMAP. I like Mail 3.0, but one bug could be a deal breaker for me:I don't like the notes feature and don't plan to use it. However, there are four mystery notes that keep reappearing in my Reminders. I don't remember creating them, and whenever I delete them they reappear about 5 minutes later. They are all blank and always have the same timestamp, too. I have set my own Hotmail account to work in Mail with no problem, but with Yahoo, when I enter the usual POP3 server info, it just rejects it. Will it make any difference that we are using a.uk Yahoo address instead of a .com one? Or is it impossible to set up a Yahoo email account in Mail on a Mac?
View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm new mac fan who has bought a macbook pro and thrown BG & MS out of my life, almost. The transition has been a little tough. I am finding some Mac things so easy. And other so hard. Apple Mail is giving me fits. In outlook express, I have 3 email accounts for various levels of privacy. All using verizon's outgoing mail server to send email. So, same username, pw & settings & outgoing Pop are the same on all 3 accounts. No problem in Outlook Express.
Mail says you cannot have the same username & pw& pop in 2 separate accounts whether it is outgoing or incoming pops/servers. On 2 accounts I have started using their own pop to send mail out. I still cannot get 1 account to email out. For 2 accounts I use onlymyemail to filter spam and then I download it from their incoming pop. So, these 2 accounts must have the same username and password and pop to download the filtered email. It seems like this whole thing is reversed. This should be a MS problem, and Mail should allow the same usname & pw on all accounts.
Am just trying to set up mail under Leopard. Under Tiger there was an option to leave a copy of the mail on the server. Can't see this option under Leopard - is this option available and if so where do I find it.
