Applications :: Will Apple Mail Delete All Messages In My Gmail Account
Jul 21, 2010I had a hotmail account and about a month ago apple mail deleted all my messages from the hotmail account, therefore I am unable to access any of them from anywhere else except my mac.
I learned that that was due to me leaving the box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message." Now I fixed that and moved to gmail, as I was able to upload all hotmail messages to my gmail account through tuhunderbird.
Since I am not a big fan of Thunderbird as it is giving me some password issues, today I set up the gmail imap (I think) accunt on my apple mail, but there is no box "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" for gmail in prefrences, just for hotmail.
Now I am scared, will apple mail delete all my messages from the gmail server, and if it will, how do I prevent it from doing so?
Applications :: Mail Replying From Wrong Email Account / Sends Mail From Other Account

I have more than one email account set up on Mail and the strangest thing happens and I can't find out how to stop it.
Here is the problem:
- I have 2 accounts, 'Account A' is for my partner & 'Account B' is for me.
- Someone sends an email to 'Account A' (my partner) and CCs 'Account B' (me) into the same eMail.
- If I click reply from 'Account B' it sends the eMail from 'Account A' which is my partner, when it should be from me.
I have worked out that this is because 'Account A' was originally sent the eMail in The 'To' field as opposed to the 'CC' field in composing the reply eMail. I know that I can manually change the 'From' field every time when replying to an eMail but it becomes an nuisance. I forget to do it when quickly replying as I consider Mail to reply from the account that I'm reading the email from.
I have gone to the compose section in the preferences and there is an option for changing this when composing a new email but nothing when replying.
Can't Delete Mail Account In Leopard
May 7, 2012She was having mail issues (passwords etc) so rather then messing with all the random settings I decided to delete the account and then re-enter it so it auto-fills everything. Only problem was that when I hit the delete button it removed the account and all the stuff from the inbox etc but then popped up a messages saying something like "are you sure you want to do this as deleting everything will be lost". Something along those lines. I wasn't sure what it was talking about so I hit cancel to stop it.
Now it seems to be gripping onto that mail account half way. I can close the email program and reopen and then account shows up again in the list of accounts. If I remove it (no messages pop up) then it disappears and about 10 seconds later I get a popup message saying that the mail accounts password is wrong? Though there is no accounts listed and I've even deleted all the passwords from keychain etc. If I enter a password it does nothing (I know I have the right password).Then, if I close mail and reopen the account is listed in the preferences again automaticly? I keep deleting it but it keeps popping back in but with no emails etc and a bunch of password etc popups bugging me. I can't seem to ADD the account again either as it just comes up with an error I think because that account is halfway in the mail app somehow.Is there anyway to manually remove any trace of this account from the mail app or something so that I can re-add it fresh?

Apr 7, 2012It seems it should be easy enough to delete a mail account! But I cannot. I highligh the mail account I want to delete, control + click and ONE of the options is DELETE MAILBOX. I have clicked it over and over again, I get a message like "are you sure?" Since I am I select DELETE, not cancel. And I just cannot get rid of this mailbox.Â

Jan 31, 2010Is there away to import mail account settings from Thunderbird and/or Outlook Express into Mail? [that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.
Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.

I have done my research on how to get my mail off my Outlook and importing it into Entourage.Fine, great and dandy. I haven't performed it yet but I have a couple of questions before running with this.1. I have MobileMe account. Installing that into Entourage was relatively easy. Done.2. Feb 19, 2009My daughter has just moved out and so now has her own internet and email address. Yesterday she was setting up all her new email addresses. Because she was having problems with setting up one of them, she deleted the old account even though it will still be active for another week or so and then recreated it. Now she cannot access any of her old emails from that account. The message she receives "This message from _____ has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." There are no emails left on the server and they are not on her online account either. She has some rather important emails in there. Is there anyway she can access them?

I should be able to just have it automatically find the settings and then I should just be able to get email, right? Wrong. Oct 11, 2009I'm a little confused about how the 'Mail' app on my MBP works with my yahoo account. I thought I had set it up properly; emails appear in my 'Mail' inbox but I am unable to send anything - every time I try, the app requests me to enter my yahoo username and password. I do but it tells me they are incorrect. If the details are incorrect why do they work when I log in to yahoo with a browser? I read somewhere that you have to have a payed for yahoo account to get proper access to it's service. If this is the case it sure isn't obvious, unless I have just been looking in all the wrong places. I am also having trouble importing my yahoo contacts to the mac Address Book app.

Sep 9, 2004I have been getting duplicate emails for a while now (17" powerbook 1.5ghz g4, 10.3.5). Sometimes I get 12 copies of the same email! I tried trashing the prefs and that helped for a few days, but it keeps coming back. I also setup and tested my mail account on another machine and that machine never gets doubles.

I'm using mail.app with 5 different accounts at work. Different accounts are supposed to be for different groups of receivers. When sending mails I unfortunately tend forget to check if the right sending address (account) is chosen. Mail automatically chooses the one from which the last mail was send. And so it ends up that people receive mails from the wrong address and are getting confused by that.

Feb 24, 2006So, similar to use on a PC, I have my POP3 accounts setup so that any computer that I download mail to, and then DELETE this mail from the deleted items folder, it will update the server and not show it for download to OTHER computers or clients that I use to access the POP3 account.
but, on the mail.app program, I cannot seem to find this very common setting. Is it somewhere that I am missing?

I can right click it, select delete. And it gives the warning. I select OK and it does nothing. I have tried it through the menu system too, and the same result.
Any idea how to delete the mailbox? The deal is I set it up to an email that I cannot access via POP and it is constantly trying to access it but can't, obviously.
