There is no disk space left on a 27" imac. Unable to update any software. There is a ton of hidden files, all highlighted in yellow. How can I delete them?
View 1 RepliesMight seem like a stupid question, but I have an SD card with hidden files filling it up to capacity. I want to delete these but I can't. I can see them, but when I hit delete it makes that noise that says you cant do this, and I cannot drag to the bin either.

I just deleted yahoo messenger from my computer by going to finder then applications and throwing it in the trash. But when i reinstalled it by downloading from the website it remembered some info from before? How can I totally delete yahoo messenger?

Library, System, Apps, ect and only come up with just over 100G. Where are there 100g of files hidden? Am I missing something somewhere?

I partitioned my hard drive to in order to have an option of running tiger or leopard and thought that the partition would wipe my hard drive clean and was acceptant of this; however, I recently noticed that my disk space is running dangerously low and have discovered that all the crap I had on my hard drive before is still lingering in the depths of my hard drive. Anyways, is there any way I could just completely wipe my hard drive because I have a complete mess of duplicate files and songs that I don't want to even bother sorting through.

Alu 24" 2.4ghz when they first came out with aluminum, got it at the store. since august 07 My imac had a small yellow tint, i noticed, when i got it and it was not worth anyhting screaming about, i also noticed it had bleeding issues ath the bottom and sides. I wanted to return it or trade but i was convinced out of it.
Now i noticed that from left to right their is a prominent yellow tint streaking it's way across and fading around the half way point.It is irritating and sad to see this display on this mac was ok, at first but it is geting slightly worse.I have apple care, can i trade this/replace it at an applestore, or would they need to fix it?

I see in macintosh hd that yellow folder called "other" is getting bigger and bigger every day. i can't delete any folders because i don't know what they're about. if i open macintosh hd i find (in italian) two folders: "sistema" (maybe system in english) and "utenti" ( users ?). Both are 15Gb. I also see that in my girlfriend's macbook air yellow "other" is empty! how It's possible?

I have tried moving them to the trash, as well as using the move to trash button. They seam to go to the trash can but when I delete the trash they are still in the file. I am trying to clear out some old files so that I can have room on my start up disk. My Disk is full and it is making it hard for me to open more then one file. I am getting an external hard drive soon but don't want these files on it.

Wut up Mac Peeps, pretty advanced Mac user and I just can't figure out how to delete the hidden partitions that Windows 7 creates. I've installed Windows 7 twice on this HDD with Leopard v.10.5.8 on it and now I have 2 small partitions at 200MB each. This means 4 partitions (1 for Leopard, 1 for Windows 7, and 2 hidden partitions). They don't show up in Disk Utility and I tried removing the entire BootCamp partition, then re-installing Leopard just so that I could configure the HDD to "One Single Partition" with Disk Utility on the Leopard Disc while re-installing and THAT didn't work for the hidden partitions either...couldn't believe it...
I'm hoping I don't have to use a Windows DOS Boot Disc to format or something...not sure if they work on MBPs but I would try...I could also use Seagate HDD Tools but I'm trying to keep this simple.
I was just wondering how to view and delete hidden folders??

I sent an email to Steve Jobs about my yellow tint 21.5 iMac issues (three exchanges, all affected, resulting in a refund). I got a call from Dena at Executive Care within 24 hours.
She said they are aware of the problem and do not know how widespread it is. According to Dena, the issue is not resolved and that ordering a new iMac will not result in a fixed display.
She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.
Have just added two external WD My book drives using time machine. In the process files were saved,copied between drives and then sent to trash. I now have have the operating software for the drive backup firmly anchored in my trash bin. It won't get rid of it. How do I overcome this problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on clearing off some hard drive space, and my first step was to remove some unneeded items from an external HD to make some space there. When I drag the folder I'm trying to delete to the trash, I first get a message that the items will be immediately deleted (I think because my internal HD is quite full?) and that's fine because I do want to delete these, so I say OK. It starts the process of deleting, and counting how many files it's deleting, then gives me a message that the operation cannot be completed because item "xx" is locked. The only solutions I have found on here involve unlocking "xx" but my problem is, when I search the computer and/or the external for item "xx" nothing is found. I'm really not sure if the issue with item "xx" is an issue with the drive or with the computer, or what to do about it?? If it's the drive, I suppose I could back up what I do want to save from the drive then re-format it?
