1) I had two user accounts: one standard, one admin. I had "hidden" the admin account from prying eyes using some Terminal commands (see here if you're interested some months later, I enabled the Open Firmware Password (hence, I can no longer boot into single user mode, boot from CD, etc)3) at some point, I inadvertently reinstalled OS X (don't ask... or do, I'll explain if necessary)4) when logging in, I ONLY have my standard account. My hidden admin account seems to be gone. OS X won't even accept the admin login/pwd when attempting to execute admin-only commands from within the standard account

I need some help to walk through adding an admin account and then deleting it after a software install on my kid's mac. I can get into single user mode, but I need some explicit instructions to add an admin account (for the purposes of installing a keylogger) then deleting the account without affecting his computer. thanks for sending me a message if you can help me with some of the commands to do this. There are a lot of instructions on the commands, but I don't want to mess it up.

I've got an iMac I'm selling and I'd rather delete the settings and accounts somehow than sit in front of it for 2 hours swapping CD's to reinstall Tiger.
I understand that in Single-User Mode you can delete the Admin account and therefore restore the machine, so that when you turn it on the next time and it doesn't detect any settings it gives you the Tiger intro, albeit annoying.
So? Anyone haz the command?
Also, post any commands for any other OS' to help OTHER forum guests, I know this would help a lot of people out with their for-sale Macs and new-used Macs.

Im running 10.6.2
I just used migration assistant to transfer to my new macbook pro. When i was doing this i needed to set up a new account/user as the one already on my new macbook pro is named the same as the one i was migrating from. With me?
What i want to do is delete the ORIGINAL account and be left with the new one, i migrated over, as the sole account (bar guest account and whatever else is usually there).
I can't seem to see any option for deleting the original account, the minus option is faded out when i highlight the Original account in "Accounts" in the System Pref. window.

Wut up Mac Peeps, pretty advanced Mac user and I just can't figure out how to delete the hidden partitions that Windows 7 creates. I've installed Windows 7 twice on this HDD with Leopard v.10.5.8 on it and now I have 2 small partitions at 200MB each. This means 4 partitions (1 for Leopard, 1 for Windows 7, and 2 hidden partitions). They don't show up in Disk Utility and I tried removing the entire BootCamp partition, then re-installing Leopard just so that I could configure the HDD to "One Single Partition" with Disk Utility on the Leopard Disc while re-installing and THAT didn't work for the hidden partitions either...couldn't believe it...
I'm hoping I don't have to use a Windows DOS Boot Disc to format or something...not sure if they work on MBPs but I would try...I could also use Seagate HDD Tools but I'm trying to keep this simple.

A freshly created account under 10.7.4. is a Admin account by default. The checkbox "Allow user to administer this computer" is grayed out. I end up with an Admin account and there is no way to convert this account into a Standard account. Facts: 10.7.4 - clean install on a current iMac i5 Freshly created account uses name of a deleted older account (my name)Repaired permissions several times (disk utility and "resetpassword utility" via terminal and safe boot)The older account had been relocated to a external disc for security reasons. There the access rights got corrupted so that I wanted to freshly create a new account and copy all files from a backup. how to create a new account for me?Â

I created a new admin account, and now I need to get all folders like Music, Documents, Video etc from old admin account. So, if I loged in as a new admin I see all folders with red sign in the coner and don't have permistion to see them or move. What are my options?Â
I do have Time Machine backup from old admin account, but it also doesn't let me open folders from the new admin.

I was running my iMac just in admin, which I know is frowned upon but that's the way I had it. I had a corrupt preferences file and I couldn't save any of my passwords etc Finally created a new user and reinstalled everything and it works fine. Had to replace all my passwords for my apps etc but other than that not that big a deal.
Question is can I now delete the other user now that I have a new admin login?:
It is just taking up storage space with a user which is corrupted but I don't want to erase the data in that user and also delete all my data in the new user as well.

Someone told me its best to use a standard account instead of a admin account for every day usage as its better for security reasons on my new MBP. They say u can always install apps on a standard account. Whats everyone view on this?

Odd question, but when you start up your mac, there's the part where you choose the different accounts. Anyway to put my account (admin account) on top, so my user account is on the bottom. My admin account (the one I want on top) by the way starts with y while the one on top starts with f, so if it's alphabetical, that might explain it.

I am upgrading my MBP and want to use Migration Assistant. The question I have is. I have been negligent and using my current MBP logged on as Admin. I want to create a user profile separate from Admin on my new MBP. Will I be able to migrate all my apps and settings from my old MBP Admin account to the new MBP user profile without issue?

We have 5 macs in our family, all were configured under my iCloud account for the App store & I just used to log in with my iCloud account on my partner/daughters machines to do updates etc.Â
Daughter has now gone to Uni & I'd like to move her "App store account" side of things over to her own iCloud account so that she can continue doing updates etc. without needing me.Â
How do I go about changing this on her machine? I'm not looking to wipe the machine for resale etc. just give her the ability to carry out updates without needing my account details. There are a few minor apps installed on it from my Apple ID but nothing major that she'd worry about losing if she needed to remove them but what is the score in this area anyway?Â

I never use "User Accounts" on my MacBook. So I don't know much about them.
If I delete one User Account, will it delete that user's libraries, such as their music, movies, documents, etc?
Also, will it delete the programs that were installed under that user's account, but are accessible by all users?

I have slight problem. I am making a switch from Windows to Mac, I copied some of my old files, around 30 GB, to my new mac with the help of external HD. I placed the folder on my desktop and the problem is that, now I can't delete these copied files. When i try to delete them Mac asks for a admin password, I type the password but nothing happens the files haven't moved. I have set permission to read & write for all users. What could be the problem here? Is it that files on my old PC wher NTFS, but i copied them to mac OS X.

Might seem like a stupid question, but I have an SD card with hidden files filling it up to capacity. I want to delete these but I can't. I can see them, but when I hit delete it makes that noise that says you cant do this, and I cannot drag to the bin either.

I am new to the mac world (first mac ever coming tomorrow probably) and I've been trying to gather as much info as possible, so I am not totally helpless when it arrives. One thing I saw somewhere (can't quite remember where it was) was a guy suggesting that users (or new users, can't remember) didn't use their admin account all the time, have your admin account apart from your day-to-day account. Is this something I should do? What are the main differences between using an account without admin privileges and one with them?
