IMac (Intel) :: Finder Preferences - Recent Items Aren't Showing Up
Dec 4, 2014
I've selected Recent Items in Finder Prefs to show 15 apps, documents etc., and it rarely shows more than 2 documents. And those 2 tend to be older files, not what I've been working on that day. I'm on Yosemite on an iMac.
I just plugged headphones into the headphone port on my iMac(dual core 2.4) I went to system preferences, sound, then output and only the internal speakers show up. I rebooted the machine and still, same thing.
I tried the same headphones on the eMac sitting next to it, and it worked just fine. Still confused about the iMac
Have new iMac. Also have iPad for about a year. Both are sync'd with my email address. When I delete emails on my iMac, they aren't deleted on my iPad like it was done on previous old computer (not Apple). Also, when I want to delete those emails on my iPad, I keep getting message stating "can't be moved" how to solve those 2 problems on deleting emails ?
I have a 2007 imac and have done all updates that I know of but the transition to icloud is not working very well.
1) icloud does not have an icon in system prefernces, it's still mobile me. Although there is a message that states the account has been moved, I cannot sync etc.
2) two of my email addresses will not stay connected in mail. Since moving to icloud I have had to reinstall them everyday.
3) I host three websites from iweb but since the change to icloud I cannot find my former account where I can access my web domain info that used to be easily found in my mobile me account page.
i have a very important document i cant find i looked in recent items and its there but when i click it it wont do anything and when i try to show in finder it doesnt do anything.
I'd like to add more then 10 items to my recent application stack list - any terminal script that can implement this - ideally I'd like 20 items in the list. To avoid confusion the screenshot is the stack list I am referring to.

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.
The more I use Finder the more I realize it's pretty crappy. The "recent files" folder never actually shows any files. And when I create my own recent files saved search, it's hit or miss as to whether it actually shows my recent files. All I'm trying to do is have an easy way to find files I've just modified or created, which should be really simple!

Login items keep opening up when desktop restarts even when hide option is clicked on login items. I've tried to remove network shares and add them again and still open up instead of hiding.
well this just started fairly and I really have no idea why, basically when I download a new app like powder game or desmemu for example, the icons will not show, it shows that sort of "paper with the pencil and ruler ect that makes a 'A' mark at the bottom right" icon :/
Is there a way to fix this? I rebuilt the cache and stuff and it didn't fix it.
I have been using safari's activity window for downloading all sorts of media by using the activity window. However, the items in the activity window no longer show up. On youtube for example, the mb file is no longer showing up in the windows activity like it use to. In the past, when this problem occurred, refreshing the page would fix this problem but this method is no longer working. I have noticed that this problem is only happening to youtube. When i went to vimeo, the video file could still be viewed in the activity window whilst it was loading, e.g. 1.3 mb of 30mb. I am using a macbook pro running on mac os x with safari version 5.0.3.
I bought a new iMac in November 2013 which has a wireless keyboard and mouse, which worked well but won't connect since OS was updated. I've looked in System Preferences and there is no symbol for Blutooth. In System Report / Blutooth it says 'No Information Found'. It's strange because the keyboard and mouse worked fine up to downloading and installing the update (to OSX 10.9.3.) How I can get the Blutooth up and running again?
Over the last couple of weeks, I am having trouble with images loading while on the internet. Some are just blank spaces, others have the "blue question mark" in the space.

my 5k iMac "cannot open desktop and screen saver prefernces pane" nor can it open "display preferences pane" under system preferences; what is going on? I restarted in safe mode and tried several other fixes from earlier questions but nothing changed.

My Wifi printer is definitely connected to my Network but when I try to connect it to my iMac using the System Preferences it does not show in the available printers window. How to get connected? Just changed to BT Infinity and installed the McAfee Security package could this be the cause?
i tried to install an mbox 2 pro, but don't finish the installation, I deleted all folders and I can't delete two icons from my system preferences; when I start my iMac, this failed and system collapses, what can I do?

It would be very useful if you could customise the contents of the "Go" menu found throughout the Finder. The possibility of adding apps/utilities or folders (with keyboard shortcuts) would be brilliant! Is there any way of doing so?
is there any way to disable grouping items by date? I mean this "last 7 days" and "earlier" filters. I just want to view all my files at once and get rid of this "show all" link.
This is an odd one. I have two items in my Finder window that will not go away no matter what I try. These pop up when I'm using Toast or DVD Studio Pro or other disk burning functions. These particular two appeared now won't go away. Snap shot of Finder. It's the two items "Untitled DVD 4"
In the preference panes I only have Account Information Mailbox behaviour Advanced
I used to have more and have not done anything that might cause the other panes to not show. Is some kind person able to advise me how to get the other panes back again., Rules etc.
