View 9 RepliesI've had my macbook pro for about 2 years and any time i would type into the search bar of safari it would always come up with a google search. recently it is coming up with a yahoo or bing search and not google. my settings for safari have it set to google as the default search engine so I'm not sure why this is happening.

I was doing a search tonight and noticed that it bounced over to Google. I have Bing as my default search engine in my Safari preferences. As a test, I changed my default to Yahoo and the same thing happened. I closed out Safari and started it up again. When I entered some search criteria in the field, it showed the words "--Bing Search" just like before, but Google then took over. How can I fix this?

I just replaced the hard drive in my iMac with a 3 tigabyte hard drive, so I have been updating all kinds of software, etc. Instead of Foxfire, I have been using Safari when I'm on the web. When I start a general search for information, my search engine changes from Google to Bing, and I'm not sure what setting I need to keep Google from being replaced by Bing?

I downloaded paint and it automatically downloaded tuneupmymac, after that, whenever i look something up on the internet using chrome safari or firefox, it will always search in bing. also i have a new option in the menu bar called develop, this has never been here before. How to return my computer back to what it was like before.

Using Safari, when I select "never" under preferences, I still recieve many cookies. I understand that if I am signed in to yahoo for example, the cookie will be replaced. However, if I am not signed in, but just connected to the net, I still get these cookies.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSome time back...maybe a couple months or a few...all my searches began running through a Bing interface. I'm hot happy with the change. Bing tends to prioritize search results for me, with lots of junk, paid ads coming up first and very few results on the first page. What has happened and how can I undo it and move on with Safari searches?

I've just returned to Mac after a long time in the Windows world, and am getting re-acquainted. In Windows, I used to copy the Bing wallpaper images that I thought were especially pretty, using the standard right click and copy. Ended up with jpegs. But I can't figure it out in Safari. Checked into Bing wallpaper downloaders, but don't find anything for Mac platform. I'm happy to do it manually, or with some type of automatic downloader.

I've read some reports lately that Apple has signed a contract with Bing and this is why Bing is now the default engine when searching. I've tried to make my default Google (as this is a much better search engine - personal opinion) - but it continues to default to Bing. How do I stop this?

Like an idiot I thought I'd try switching user agents as I was messing around with iPhone optimising a few web pages. So I saw in Safari 4.0.4 on my iMac, the Develop menu, where I changed the user agent to "iPhone xxx". I then switched back to auto detecting user agent. Ever since then, the google.co.uk page has screwed up, as it always loads in mobile view, and not the classic view it used to: This is what I always get now whenever I visit google.co.uk: When I click on the "Classic View" link, I get this page, which displays correctly: Notice the extra text in the URL... which I shouldn't have to put that everytime! Strangely google.com loads up fine: I have deleted all cookies associated with "google" and also rebooted my iMac, but still google.co.uk defaults to the classic view. I tried forcing the User Agent to Safari 4.0.4, but it didn't make any difference as it still loads in mobile view! Here are the cookies I have now which relate to google.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA few days ago my email was hacked into which sent a spam email to all my contacts. I changed my password to that account, warned everyone in my contacts, and haven't had a problem with email since. However, I tried to do the 'delete all cookies' again and when I go to safari/preferences/privacy...there is nothing on that screen under that tab. Not even a question mark. I changed my history items to be removed every day from every week but don't think that would be the issue.Â

When I hover my mouse over an application (such as Terminal) it freezes with the message 'process Termainl [pid] caught causing excessive wakeups...'Â
Some applications (such as Google Chrome) work fine. Others (iTerm, Terminal, Hipchat) are susceptible. If the application exhibits the behaviour - without fail, simply hovering the mouse over the application window, without clicking or giving it explicit focus, will cause it to freeze.Â
Prior to this, my battery had swollen and the suspicion was that it was pressing against the trackpad resulting in a constant stream of interrupts. I took the battery out and am typing this without the battery - the issue persists.Â
I also tried disconnecting the trackpad. Same issue, even when using an external mouse to navigate.
Previously the solution was to install Safari plugins Inquisitor or Glims but Apple have removed the interfaces from Safari 4 that these plugins used - and there is still no built in Safari Preference to set the locale of the Google search. Effectively this renders the Safari Google Search field pretty well useless - at least for UK users. If you're searching for UK-based businesses or individuals, for example, the thousands of USA results that come up first are just not relevant - (that's an example of British Understatement. by the way

View 2 Replies View RelatedI get this ad every time I load the page. I figured it was a cookie problem so I searched my cookies for 'Google' and deleted all the results. I'm still getting it. It's not happening in Firefox, only Safari. It's been there since Friday or Saturday. Am I the only one?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to clear my cookies. I know where this option should be (Safari - preferences - security, ) But the option is not listed.

I Installed Yosemite to my Imac last night, must say I don't like the interface half as much as the last one! But that's not my main gripe. I don't appear to be able to search on Google. Is this deliberate, because of the rivalry between apple and Google? also since downloading ios 8 on to my Ipad2 it keeps freezing, and dropping out. Not impressed with this at all.

I bought a new iMac in November 2013 which has a wireless keyboard and mouse, which worked well but won't connect since OS was updated. I've looked in System Preferences and there is no symbol for Blutooth. In System Report / Blutooth it says 'No Information Found'. It's strange because the keyboard and mouse worked fine up to downloading and installing the update (to OSX 10.9.3.)Â How I can get the Blutooth up and running again?

When I am in Google Chrome and I go Chrome -> Preferences all I see is an empty window that's called 'Under the Hood' WTF?! That's all I get. I cant do anything with it, I have left it open for ages. I just decided to switch from Safari because this is quicker and YouTube was making my Safari just freeze up.
