i have a very important document i cant find i looked in recent items and its there but when i click it it wont do anything and when i try to show in finder it doesnt do anything.
I'd like to add more then 10 items to my recent application stack list - any terminal script that can implement this - ideally I'd like 20 items in the list. To avoid confusion the screenshot is the stack list I am referring to.
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), My sidekick and $ maker =)
I've selected Recent Items in Finder Prefs to show 15 apps, documents etc., and it rarely shows more than 2 documents. And those 2 tend to be older files, not what I've been working on that day. I'm on Yosemite on an iMac.
I thought an update to Snow Leopard would sort this, but no luck. My "Open Recent" lists in every single app are always blank, even though I have opened docs using them. I have fiddled about in Preferences > Appearance > Number of Recent Items, changing it from 10 to 15 to 0 back to 15, but no luck. It's ALWAYS blank. I've not found anyone with a similar problem who's managed to sort it.
I just saw this terminal script dock tip from [URL] where your recent Applications or Recent Documents among other "Recent" choices show up as a stack, which I thought was perfect because I could finally show my recent documents, which I couldn't do before due to smart folders not working with stacks. The only problem now is that the most inane file types show up there, such as iChat files and prefPanes, so I was wondering if anybody knew of script that would allow for you to exclude those doc types from showing up in recent documents.
After recent update I can no longer open my iphoto. (Pop-up window states that it is trying to update, that older versions iphoto will no longer be readable with older versions)After 2 hours of waiting for it to upgrade still no response. What do I do to be able to view iphoto library?
Info: MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.4), I have an older version of iphoto
I have two photo stream files in the iphoto "recent". For some reason I have "photo stream" & "Jan 2012 photo stream" Would like to get rid of the later.....how?
We have an older IMac (preIcloud) and just purchased a new Macbook Air. Our Iphones are set-up to synch with the IMAC and my calendars on the IMac & the phone look the same. But when I open ICal on the MacBook Air my calendar is missing items?
Whenever I open a pdf, adobe starts to open every pdf file on my computer. Does anyone know of any way to stop this? I couldn't really find anything on search. I am running OSX 10.6.3
ive had some decent experience with minor automation, but now im trying to get a little more serious.
1. i'm wondering if its possible to write a script that could open up an application, folder, or document such that the header bar of the window opens just under my mouse.
so the key would be to read where the mouse is located and move the said window there.
2. when writing scripts for specific applications, where do you find out what the applications specific names to functions calls, and actions?
When opening a Mail message with any sort of scripting, many of the menu items remain greyed out, including the one that's important to me, 'Save Attachments...'.
If I manually open the same message, the menu items are enabled.
Try this script, by resetting the mailbox name to one of your own mailboxes, and you'll see what I mean.
(I've lodged a bug report).
Regards set SaveAttachmentsMenu to truetell application "Mail" activate set WindowCount to count of windows open item 1 of messages of drafts mailbox set x to 0 repeat # wait until the message is really open. tell current application to delay 0.1 set x to x + 1 if x > 40 then exit repeat if (count of windows) > WindowCount then exit repeat end repeat tell application "System Events" to tell process "Mail" select window 1 tell current application to delay 0.2 if exists menu item "Save Attachments…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1 then keystroke "a" using command down if not enabled of menu item "Save Attachments…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1 then say "attachments disabled" click menu item "Select All" of menu 1 of menu bar item "Edit" of menu bar 1 set x to 0 try click menu item "Save Attachments…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1 end try repeat until exists sheet 1 of window 1 tell current application to delay 0.1 set x to x + 1 if x = 40 then set SaveAttachmentsMenu to false exit repeat end if end repeat end if end tellend tellSaveAttachmentsMenu

Today I tried opening my keynotes presentation file to make amendments to it and when I double clicked on it, the program loading bar only loaded up a third of the way and then hanged. I then tried to save it to a flash drive and use it on a different computer, but when I tried to copy it over to the flash drive it gave me this error: "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "garment styles" could not be read or written error code - 36".
I have tried changing the file extension to a zip, then unzipping it and then renaming it but that did not work.(It wouldn't let me unzip it). I have also looked at the index file name to see if that was the problem, but that is as it should be.
I have also tried uploading it to a website and emailing it and it will not let me.
Is there anyway I can recover this file as I have been working on it for over a month and it is due next week, or will I need to start again?
ok trying not to get a panic attack here. I downloaded espionge to encrypt my valuable files and while it was encrypting (AES 128 bit i think) the program froze and I had to Force quit it. Now I try to open my file (that i was trying to encrypt) and it looks f*^&# up. I can't open it, and when I tried to unmount the partially encrypted file, espionage gave me errors that it couldnt recover the original file.
I had basically all my life's valuable accumulated data in that folder (it was 10 Gb+). I will praise anyone to the end of my days that can somehow tell me how to restore my file to its original state. Usefull info:
1) AM planning to pay gazillions for recovery software if need be, but free alternatives are always better.
2) I never secure delete if that helps
3) I still have the .sparseimage for the file created by espionage. (P.S. sparseimage's size looks really close to the orignal, also 10 Gb +).
4) Newest version of OSX, and have an IMac.
5) after incident I haven't done anything (no installations or downloads) apart from writing this.
6) the encrypted file was gonna be in HFS+ i think
I got a file named myfile.dat from my supervisor and he said myfile.dat is a helix database file. I tried to open that file after installing helix server 6.1.5, but I couldnt open it. I am really in a confusion that whether the given file is helix format file or something. Can anyone tell me that how to open *.dat file or how to identify the format from the file extension.
I try to open an Open Office spread sheet and it simply saves the file as another file with the .cpgz extension which does the same thing. This did not happen a couple weeks ago; I think my download for Apple updates may be the culprit. My OS X is now 10.7.3, I believe originally it was 10.7.2 but I could be wrong.
The original document is a zip archive but now "saves as" a .cpgz archive. I have tried the "Unarchiver", which I just downloaded, but it only creates another file with subfolders, none of which appear to have my original spread sheet. (To be honest, I never noticed this Open Office spread sheet file was a zip file until a few minutes ago when I tried to unsuccessfully open it).
I have a simple automator sequence that suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason. Copy Finder Items has started returning an error "the file xxx couldn't be saved to the folder yyy" Happens for different files and folders. Can't see anythng that's changed.

I have been working on a project and have a completed picture on my flash drive but when I go to open it, it says cannot open because file is empty. It shows that the size of the file is 96 kb and I can see it with the "quick look" option when you left click. This is using CS3 by the way.
i have a ppt saved on my pendrive which i got saved from windows as (.pptm) but now when i tried opening it on my macbook it shows a message (CORPORATE GOVERNANCE org..pptm could not be handled because Keynote cannot open files in the ZIP archive format).
