View 1 Replies View RelatedA couple of weeks ago my IMAC 24 started taking a long time to bootup, 5 minutes and 20 seconds.
It starts with a blank white screen for 1:45, then a black & white blinking world icon comes up for 2:15, then a blinking black & white Apple icon comes on for 30 seconds, then a pale blue blank screen for 20 seconds. Then the wallpaper comes on and it seems to go to a regular boot from there. Where can I access what is happening during all of this 5:20?
I'm trying to determine, even after a visit to the Apple store and clean install, if my boot up time is sub-optimal. It's still taking over a minute to bootup to the desktop (from the start up sound). What's ya'lls times for booting up?

Installed a Samsung SSD 830 256GB into my MBP 15" after duplicating the hard drive via disk utility. But bootup times has nearly doubled from 35 seconds of the old HDD to 63 seconds with the new SSD when it's supposed to be the other way round! Applications do startup and run very fast though. Tried repairing my permissions but that hasnt helped.

I have a 80GB Intel X25-M G2 that cannot boot in less than 30s.
I keep reading that people get bootup times as low as 15s, and I was wondering if there is something I am doing wrong.
I am using about 30 GB of SSD space, and I use a 500 GB 7200 RPM Seagate Momentus XT hybrid as a scratch disk (downloads, documents, pictures, etc.) in the optibay.
I just did a clean install of snow leopard yesterday, formatted my X25 (wrote zeros, mac [journaled]), installed SL, updated, etc. The bootup time went up to over one minute.
I reinstalled snow leopard again (did not format this time) and it went down to 33s. I then reset the pram and it went down to 27s.
Now, it's back around 30s.
I just bought my first Mac a few weeks back and the switch has been going good but have had one thing that I can't seem to find any info on...
Is it possible to change the boot order on a Mac like in the BIOS on a PC? The reason I ask is that when I have my external hard drive connected the bootup time is slower.
Could this be that the Mac equivalent of the BIOS is doing a quick scan of the hard drive first, looking for an bootable operating system? Or is that extra time just OS X mounting the hard drive?
I have a iMac 20" 2.4ghz 2gig RAM. For a few weeks now been having problems with it running slow hanging and programs doing all sort of things like losing history in programs. But the other day it hang and had to turn it of by holding the button when tried to turn it on again it would only load till the grey screen and it had a flashing folder with a ? Tried for ages to get it to bootup but nothing so left it for a day turned it on and it booted up ok but still with the other problems. Now it hangs all the time and it wont always bootup.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a G5 iMac - 2.1 ghz, 20", 250gb hd and 3gb ram, but it has been having problems starting up and it is also going to sleep midway through a task or at random times totally unprompted.
It now almost never starts up first time (I keep the iMac mains power lead always connected and the mains electricity supply turned on at all times now)- sometimes I will get the 'Start-up Chime' and then the cooling fans start spinning very loudly and then after a few seconds the iMac stops the start-up routine, but often when I try to start-up I don't even get the 'Start-up Chime' and I have to leave it for some time before trying again.
I can also now only get the iMac to run as a Firewire Target Disc by starting up with the T key held down and then using an old G4 (400mhz) Powerbook Titanium as the screen/keyboard by using the iMac HD as the startup disc for the Powerbook but this is obviously just a temporary work around.
I have also tried backing up all my data, and reinstalling the Mac OS X onto the iMac but the iMac still will not start-up normal and I still have to use it just as a Firewire HD.
I've recently upgraded my MacBook Pro into MAC OS X 10.6.2 and I started to experience a low booting time (over 17 seconds). Another issue, when I start the computer I always get the starting screen where the apple logo is shown as zoomed. I tried to check the display but its fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro has been freezing frequently for about 30-45 seconds at a time. The screen will freeze, sound will stop, but the color wheel will spin and i can move it around with the trackpad. I don't know what is causing this/any possible fixes to my problem. I purchased the macbook pro in mid 2009 and it has OS X lion 10.7.3 installed on it.

I have a MAC V10.9.4 and my FCPX 10.0.8 crashes every time I open it and lasts about 10 seconds. I am making a video reel so there are a lot of different types of videos in it and chopped up into smaller scenes to create a collage of my achievements. Now halfway through, I can't complete it because it keeps crashing and it super annoying because I have a few days to complete.
I have below the code.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using a Mac Mini with a Realtek USB wireless dongle to connect to the internet. The software and drivers appear connected perfectly and i see the wireless utility and I can access my wireless network, which says signal strength 100%. I connect to it and it accepts the wireless key. Says connected. Then after a few seconds the connection is lost and it says 'Disconnected'. A few seconds later it connects then disconnects and this continues indefinitely but Safari never allows me to access any webpages.

I can't find any other thread out there about this. I was wondering what the fix for when my iMac 27 c2d comes out of sleep and pinwheels for about 4-5 sec. It only started doing this when I updated to 10.6.2
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy screen savers (any of them) only run for a couple of seconds before returning me to the desktop or any applications running before I turn it on.
I've set the top right corner of my screen (expose') to be the Hot Corner for turning on the screen saver.
That works normally, but it just keeps on turning off shortly after =[
Testing the screen savers in System Preferences make it work but I really don't want to go all the way in there every time to turn it on...
I don't know what's wrong.
##UPDATE## I've found the answer to my problem. It lies in an app called Caffeine. I can either click it so it shows an empty cup or update the app to a more friendly version to my OSX and quit it.
I hope this can help anyone in trouble because this is a really understated issue (at least with Snow Leopard! since it has compatibility problems with the old Caffeine app).
How do i get the imac to fully startup?
View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery 10 seconds there is a clicking sound coming out of the iMac i5, I have a CD loaded at the moment and a USB Stick behind. Since the reformat I have not been able to get the computer to connect to the Airport Extreme on my Time Machine. Now my Time Machine was set to WPA2 so I changed it to a straight WEP and the iMac can handle that but it keeps dropping the connection every 15 to 20 seconds. Can I get the iMac to use WPA2 and or how can I stop the iMac from rejected the Wi-Fi connection every few seconds?

the computer has also been re-formated about a month ago as it was passed onto me from a family member, an im wondering if its got anything to do with that?is this a normal thing for macs an maybe i just havent noticed it before, or does it sound like something is wrong??

I have a 27 inch desktop. Upon turning the computer on within seconds the fan comes on. Then it goes to a high fan. Then it goes to a black screen. Then it shuts off. Then if you click the mouse it will come back on. This cycle repeats itself every 5 seconds. Only one time in the past month did it turn on normally and run for me.

My family just recently upgraded from an old PC to this 27" iMac, during the early part of the summer. While using it over the last little while, I would notice a noise that sounded like a harddrive spinning or possibly some sort of a fan noise. The best way to describe it would probably be as digital noise. It's not incredibly loud, but it's a decent volume, and can get quite annoying. It has a little bit of a squeak to it.
Over the last little while, it's become more constant. When the computer is in use, it'll usually occur quite often. It's quite annoying and obtrusive when I'm watching videos and I'd like to know what it could be.I think our computer is still under warranty, so I'm hoping to find out if it is something wrong, so I can get it replaced.
I've also been wondering if it's a fan, or a regular noise. However, it's so constant that I'm starting to wonder. The other night, I was watching a video and it seemed like it was coming on every 30 seconds for a long span of time. We don't run any memory heavy programs on this computer. If anything, we're just using Firefox, iTunes and/or Messenger. Sometimes Office. There's little to nothing stored on this computer, as it's brand new, so most of its memory is free.
My very useful little daemon ntpd was behaving normally just weeks ago, but now, it checks with Apple's time servers like an obsessive/compulsive person might look at his/her watch.
