OS X :: Long Bootup Time - Mac 10.5.8

Oct 4, 2010

A couple of weeks ago my IMAC 24 started taking a long time to bootup, 5 minutes and 20 seconds.
It starts with a blank white screen for 1:45, then a black & white blinking world icon comes up for 2:15, then a blinking black & white Apple icon comes on for 30 seconds, then a pale blue blank screen for 20 seconds. Then the wallpaper comes on and it seems to go to a regular boot from there. Where can I access what is happening during all of this 5:20?

Power Mac :: G4 Ejects DVD Drive On Bootup?

Mar 21, 2012

Since aquiring my own Mac G4 digital audio for dirt cheap (£0 ) I've been reassembling the peices. It works entirely, but I have a strange problem with the optical drives. Since the guy I had got it from removed almost everything (RAM, CD/DVD, HDD), I used spare parts to get it running. It boots into OSX 10.5 fine and everything seems to work ok, but upon powering the mac up, it ejects the DVD drive tray when the gray screen shows. It's done it with every drive I have tried and stops me from booting from CDs.

Is there any reason it could be doing this? These drives I know work 100%.

MacBook Pro :: Slow Bootup Time With New Installed SSD

Apr 24, 2012

Installed a Samsung SSD 830 256GB into my MBP 15" after duplicating the hard drive via disk utility. But bootup times has nearly doubled from 35 seconds of the old HDD to 63 seconds with the new SSD when it's supposed to be the other way round! Applications do startup and run very fast though. MacBook Pro :: Intel X25M Cannot Beat 30s Bootup Time?

Jul 2, 2010

I have a 80GB Intel X25-M G2 that cannot boot in less than 30s.

I keep reading that people get bootup times as low as 15s, and I was wondering if there is something I am doing wrong.

I am using about 30 GB of SSD space, and I use a 500 GB 7200 RPM Seagate Momentus XT hybrid as a scratch disk (downloads, documents, pictures, etc.) in the optibay.

I just did a clean install of snow leopard yesterday, formatted my X25 (wrote zeros, mac [journaled]), installed SL, updated, etc. The bootup time went up to over one minute.

I reinstalled snow leopard again (did not format this time) and it went down to 33s. I then reset the pram and it went down to 27s.

Now, it's back around 30s.

OS X :: Unable To Change Boot Order / Bootup Time Is Slower

Apr 19, 2008

I just bought my first Mac a few weeks back and the switch has been going good but have had one thing that I can't seem to find any info on...

Is it possible to change the boot order on a Mac like in the BIOS on a PC? The reason I ask is that when I have my external hard drive connected the bootup time is slower.

Could this be that the Mac equivalent of the BIOS is doing a quick scan of the hard drive first, looking for an bootable operating system? Or is that extra time just OS X mounting the hard drive?

Intel Mac :: Time Machine Backups Taking Extremely Long Time Running Lion 10.7.4

Jul 2, 2012

I have an iMac running the latest version of Lion (10.7.4) and which I have upgraded to a one terabyte hard drive and full memory capability. I back up to a My Book 2 terabyte external hard drive using Time Machine. My iMac is often very sticky, though I've done most of the diagnostics I know of and preferences etc. are seemingly all OK and fcuk -fs gives a positive result! The Mac is often hard to wake from sleep and in particular seems to spend a lot of time backing up very-very slowly, with the result that it frustratingly seems to be backing up most of the time with the consequent effects on using other programs. Also the whole thing seems to grind to a halt after a hard days work with quite a few applications open. I'm wondering what can be causing this and what I can do to overcome this very frustrating and debilitating problem?

Applications :: Time Machine Taking Long Time To Backup - Changing Backup Time?

Dec 11, 2009

I have looked into this a lot already. It is to much that Time Machine backs up every single hour! It would be nice to set it to something like 3 or 5 hours. I have tried a 3rd party app to do this, but... If my computer was off or asleep when it was supposed to back up, it would get an error. It would not just do the backup when i turned it on or when it came out of sleep like stock Time Machine does. I have also seen a way to change the time incraments in the Terminal.(I am very good with it, not a noob) I have tried this and it screws up time machine completely. Maybe it does not work with the newest OS X. By the way... I have a 2010 MacBook Pro, got it 2 months ago.

Does anyone know a solid 3rd party app, that will work seamlessly. Or has anyone changed the time in Terminal and are currently using something different than 1 hour. There is a lot of examples online, but I would like the codeing that you literally used.

MacBook Pro :: Have To Long Press Power Button To Switch On

Sep 4, 2014

I have macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 purchased in 2012 times. For past few days, I've noticed this problem- I have to long press the power button to switch on the device. Normally, the devices switches on with a simple press on the power button. But for the recent days, when I do a simple press of the power button, I think it switches on and goes off instantly. I had to long press (for around 5-8 seconds) to switch it on. After the device is on, there is no problem at all...

IMac :: How Long Battery Power Last For Wireless Keyboard / Magic Mouse

May 8, 2010

I received a new iMac about 2 weeks ago, and I'd like to know how long the battery is suppose to roughly last for the keyboard and magic mouse. When I installed iStat Pro widget, it showed the battery power for my mouse, but the keyboard has never showed up. My mouse has been steadily losing battery power and is now at 28%. However, bluetooth states the power to my keyboard is 100%. This doesn't seem correct.

One other thing I've noticed in the bluetooth menu, under devices, is that the keyboard is labeled as "Apple Wireless Keyboard", while the mouse is title's my name's mouse (I.e.: "Darkroom's Mouse"). This may just nothing, but I'm assuming it's another symptom of my keyboard not being fully read by the OS.

OS X :: Mac Takes A Long Time Logging In

Aug 6, 2010

Basically I have a MacBook Pro which logs in fine when I'm at work but when I'm on my home network it takes like 5 minutes to authenticate. All appearances are that it's trying to reach my work network to authenticate. Short of disabling wireless or having it prompt for my home network password before joining wireless, is there any way that I can either shorten the timeout or have it bypass network authentication when I'm at home?

Mac Pro :: It Takes Long Time To Start Up

Mar 30, 2012

My Mac Pro takes two minutes to start up.  It is also sluggish during normal operation.  I have Parallels and a external hard drive installed. Do either of these contribute to this problem? Or is there a program that can be used to defrag the hard drive. (I recall having similar problems with my IBM computer.  When it was defragged the performance of the unit improved).

Windows On Mac :: Checkdisk Taking Very Long Time On MBP

Jul 2, 2009

I tried running a chkdsk /f /r on my late 2008 MBP yesterday. Started around 18:30, it was still running this morning and had only got to stage 4 of 5 and was on 18%, that's over 12 hours! I'm running Windows 7 64bit RC, and the partition size is 84 GB. My desktop computer on the same o/s and a 150 GB partition, took about 45-50 mins to complete this on the weekend, and I was wondering if any other MBP users had run a full checkdisk and how long it takes on their machines?

Applications :: Taking Really Long Time To Load .wmv?

Nov 9, 2009

why but lately all the .wmv videos I have watched have taken an extremely long time to fully load. Before the whole file would load and I would be able to seek throughout the video to any part which I liked. Now however, the video instantaneously pops up but I have to wait for it to load before I am able to seek but I can basically watch the whole video before it fully loads (as if it was streaming).

In the attached picture, the Quicktime seek bar looks like this as I open it.

I have the free version of flip4mac, quicktime and OSX 10.5.8.
