View 8 RepliesIt takes my late 2008 MacBook Pro about 56 seconds to boot up. Is there any way to speed up the process? Keep in mind it recently just had a fresh install of OS X Mavericks, so there isn't that much on here to slow it down.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI bought my new MacBook Alu., 2GHz, 2GB Ram, with OSX 10.5.6 about 5-6 weeks ago, and was pretty astonished about how long it takes for the thing to boot-up. Approx. 60-70 seconds (just over a minute). My old MacBook (white), with 1,8GHz, 1,25GB Ram, and Tiger, took about only half the time. (About the same number of Apps on both notebooks)Is this boot-up time of about 1 minute normal, or should I contact Apple Service?
View 23 Replies View RelatedShutdown used to be a few seconds on my MBP Mid 2009 but some time a go (I haven't associated it with any upgrade or software install) it became rather slow (60-90 seconds). I tried a few solutions but haven't made any progress. The problem I see is that all log messages appear in first 10 sec of shutdown and then it's quiet time. Screen first goes gray for about 20 sec, then spinning wheel appears for another 40 seconds after which restart happened.
The only HW changes I did to the MBP are upgrade to 8 GB of RAM (long time ago) and replaced HDD with Samsung 840 EVO SSD (half a year ago).

It takes a full minute to boot up my Macbook Pro 15.4".
I only have 2GB of RAM, but the CPU is a C2D @ 2.4Ghz. Should it take this long?
MBP 13" 2011, OS 10.9.4, 4G RAM . The boot time from press start to when I can use my MAC is excruciating, at least 90 seconds.
I have REPAIRED DISK PERMISSIONS AFTER EACH UPDATE OF SOFTWARE,
I have created a Guest Account and the 'start/to use time is 1/3.
I have NO 3rd party software, all Apple, My iPhono Library is only? 10.5G
I have reset the SMC-Shift/Control/Option-hold- start
Once the Mac is up and running it seems to run ok with Safari, Mail running, but add to that NUMBERS or Garage Band 10, (fagedabowdit).

I want to do some upgrade things with my macbook and need to know if all is correct. My current internal hd is 80gb. I'm on 10.4.11. I plan on going to Snow Leopard but I want to keep my 10.4.11 system too to use. Almost 2 year old intel macbook.
I have superduper. I just got a new 500gb drive for the macbook. I also got a usb external 2.5" enclosure. I haven't done anything yet. What I want to do.... I want to partition the new hd into two. Probably 120gb to clone my current system on (with some room for growth) and the remainder to do a whole new fresh install + various applications of Snow Leopard.
Firstly, is it OK for me to have two separate OS's to boot from?
Secondly, cloning procedure.... should I take out my current hd and put it into the external enclosure, then put in the new hd, then boot from my former drive via usb and clone it onto the newly installed drive?
OR...put the new drive first into the enclosure, clone my system onto it, then switch out the drives? Does it matter which way?
Thirdly, since I'm not going to be doing any upgrading of my 10.4 system to SL....I'm leaving it intact as is.....and then doing a completely new install of SL....is there anything weird I should look out for. I dunno....my admin account...or not being able to have Logic installed more than once on the same machine...or anything else I should be aware of?
It seems like this is taking too long. Should I be concerned? I've only had the computer for a month but start up seems slower.

The screen will freeze, sound will stop, but the color wheel will spin and i can move it around with the trackpad. I don't know what is causing this/any possible fixes to my problem. I purchased the macbook pro in mid 2009 and it has OS X lion 10.7.3 installed on it.

New 13" MBP, and the time to sleep is about 15-30 seconds. My 12" powerbook would do it in a third of the time. Any thoughts? How long does it take others?

I am using a Mac Mini with a Realtek USB wireless dongle to connect to the internet. The software and drivers appear connected perfectly and i see the wireless utility and I can access my wireless network, which says signal strength 100%. I connect to it and it accepts the wireless key. Says connected. Then after a few seconds the connection is lost and it says 'Disconnected'. A few seconds later it connects then disconnects and this continues indefinitely but Safari never allows me to access any webpages.

Not sure from where in my macbook it's coming, but it started recently. The only thing that changed recently is that i relocated it to a different city, but i don't see why that would cause this. Clicking isn't really the right word to describe the noise...it's like a sweeping click. "Shtock." And it gets louder if i increase the volume on my computer, but it's definitely not coming from any application. And it usually goes off every minute, but sometimes there are breaks of two minutes or so.
View 15 Replies View RelatedIf I change the desktop background in the interval of every one minute, will it have a impact on battery life? I notice there's even an option for every 5 seconds. Surely, Apple must feel confident in the battery life of the MBP if there is such an option. I like seeing a new image every so often, but don't want to sacrifice too much battery. What do you feel is the best setting? Every 5 minutes? 15 min? 30 min? 1 hour?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk so to start off, my Macbook Pro is around 3 years old. With my original battery having been through 350+ cycles, I had to buy a replacement. So I did some research and found that the Fastmac battery was my best bet for a long-lasting, reliable battery. I would say that Ive had the Fastmac battery for a bout 6-7 months without any problems whatsoever. However, recently Ive been noticing the drastic change in battery life. I installed Coconut Battery yesterday and discovered that my current battery capacity is 2266mAh with the original capacity being 5800mAh and 213 cycles. I also should note that the battery drains 1% a minute with no programs running (besides the Activity Monitor, which showed no strange behavior). Now luckily for me, My Fastmac battery is under a 1 year warranty, however I just wanna verify that it is a fault with my battery and not anything on my Macbook's side causing the battery to drain so quick. The last thing I want is to receive my replacement and then have to go through the same process 6 months later.
Also here is the Battery Information from the System Profiler.
Battery Information:
Battery Installed:Yes
First low level warning:No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh):2266
Remaining Capacity (mAh):1414

My shiny new retina macbook pro took 11 hours to transfer all my files over wireless to the new machine. I thought all software was current, and everything seems to be there.
When I opened iphoto for the first time, ...I cannot quite remember the message , but do remember it said iphoto needed to update and it would take about 3 minutes ??
Well iphoto has given me the grey screen of death. I can see the side bar that is empty and the empty screen in the middle. I left it overnight and it was the same. My library is about 50 GB. I force quit and it now has a progress bar and is now stuck at step 5/ 95% for another 30 minutes.

I have a 2 week old iMac 27", i7, 2tb Hard Drive, 16gb RM
In the second week the boot up times became very slow.
I would turn the machine on and get the chime within 5 seconds or so.
Then just a black/blank screen.
Eventually after about 10mins I would get a white screen then it would boot up normally.
Now the machine just doesn't get to the white screen. So I get the chime and then just darkness. It does sound like the machine is on (usual quiet imac whirring).
I've tried various key commands when I turn the machine on including pressing C with the install disk in the dvd drive and the alt, control, P, R pram reset.
I've also tried unplugging all the cables, leaving the machine for a minute and switching back on. I did manage to perform the PRAM reset once. I reset the machine and it booted fine.
But now when I switch it on just darkness.
I've called after sales and will try to get the machine replaced but in the meantime is there anything I could try that might make the machine work? I need to do a remix this weekend (deadline Monday) so really need to get it working.

I was thinking of buying a Rev A MB Air. Don't really need the hard drive space as I have external storage. But after going through the posts it seems almost all the Rev As have video and over heating problems. The MB Air I am getting is with Apple Care until 2011.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a small office (5-10 Mac books) working on wifi, and we are needing a better way to store large art and video files somewhere other than external hard drives. (For the amount of work we do, we would simply have too many hard drives floating around). Also, I need all of my staff to have access to the same "cloud" server, as well as some satellite workers.
Someone recommended an NAS enclosure with multiple hard drives...Is this my best option? And if so, what are the best NAS servers out there?

The Mac operating system and maybe either a windows or linux or an other useful and functional alternative! The reason for this is, that I have several laptops incl. an iPad. I have concluded that iPad isnt that useful for my needs till now, its not very functional for my needs. I am also going to upgrade my smart mobile still considering functional alternatives (would like to hear yoru thoughts about this as well)! I want to integrate them into one machine only and utilize cloud and / or an external Disk, and be better able to use useful apps and software that are not available on either one of the systems on their own my own system! Usage will be both for biz and private, but at the end usefulness, and functionality will play a big part in my final decision! Do you think this is practical, useful and cost effective way doing it the way I want to do?
