My Macbook Pro has been freezing frequently for about 30-45 seconds at a time. The screen will freeze, sound will stop, but the color wheel will spin and i can move it around with the trackpad. I don't know what is causing this/any possible fixes to my problem. I purchased the macbook pro in mid 2009 and it has OS X lion 10.7.3 installed on it.

My iTunes freezes a lot since last December and it's really annoying and frustrating when it happens now. I get the whole beach ball thingy and sometimes need to Force Quit applications and still sometimes that doesn't seem to alleviate the problem. So a friend suggested to create a whole new iTunes library and see if I get the same issues of freezing on this newly created library. I can't even watch movies as it gives slight pauses when watching movies off iTunes. How to create a new Library.

I am on the latest version of Mavericks, with all updates installed. My 2009 MacBook Pro freezes a little bit after airport turns on. This would appear to also carry over to when the computer is starting up because when I am able to turn and keep airport off the computer never freezes during startup. Less than 3 moths ago I had Bly airport card replaced so I doubt that the problem is with the hardware. Â
Except for this one issue, my computer is running perfectly fine. The problem has persisted with a clean reinstall of OS Mavericks. It'd be happy to rely on an Ethernet cable, but that won't be possible in the near future, at least not without lots of wires running across the floor.

While sitting idle, the fan on my Mac Pro (well, I think it's one of the fans) does this strange cycling thing. At first I thought it was a truck way off in the distance, starting and stopping. Then I realized it was my Mac Pro. Sitting with no apps running, one of the fans frequently cycles on an off audibly.
I recorded it. Have a listen. You have to listen past the low frequency rumble of the Mac and you'll hear the fan spinning up and then spinning down in cycles that are typically 8 or 10 seconds, sometimes shorter.
I just brought my computer from work to my home and now it's freezing. The G4 running osx 10.4.. freezes about 15 seconds after each restart. The screen is still active but mouse/keyboard is frozen. If it is kept on after a few minutes the computer starts to get very loud, with all the fans working overtime.
I've tried opening it and making sure everything is seated and plugged in well.
Tried different mouse and keyboard.
Tried running disk permissions.
Tried starting to run scripts but can't get to then before the comp freezes.
Tried safe mode but it still freezes too.
Any ideas or do i need to go back to the office and get the restore disk and start over reinstalling anything?
I have upgraded my OS and am having trouble with website freezing up after about 30 seconds.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a mid-2007 MBP 17" that I upgraded to SL. I've noticed that time machine seems to go every 20-25 minutes or so, instead of every hour. I checked the .plist in launchdaemons, and it's set to 3600 seconds. (I could be crazy, but it also seems that my screen is shutting off too fast, but I haven't timed it so I might be imagining it).

My mac is freezing all the time. I can't have more than three programs open at the same time, like forefox, word and spotify. If I do that, it crashes and have to turn it off with the power button. I have some big programs on it, like all the Adobe programs. The mac is just over a year old. It have a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, and have 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR 3 memory, also running iOS 10.9.4. I have 388,82 GB available of 499,25 GB.

so I have a 1.33GHz iBook G4 with 1.5GB of RAM and a 40GB hard drive.
Last night I reinstalled the OS, which is to say I reinstalled the Leopard upgrade disk. All went well.
Then I pulled out my time machine back up, opened Migration Assistant and started moving everything over, and that's where it all went horribly wrong.
The first time I did this it stayed at 4 minutes remaining for about an hour and a half. I gave up and hit quit, but something'd been copied across because my hard drive only had about 9GB left, but I can't see any of the stuff that's taking up all this space.
So, I whip out the Leopard disk again and start all over. I figure maybe Migration Assistant's just one of those things that needs to sit for ages. This time it seemed to freeze at 38 minutes remaining but I went to bed and left it.
As I was passing around a shop where they sold MBP's of all sizes, I tried them out. Amazingly, every single one of them seemed to freeze when I opened iPhoto, for not a short time. Am I not understanding something about it or is it just freezing?

I am making a video reel so there are a lot of different types of videos in it and chopped up into smaller scenes to create a collage of my achievements. I am using a Mac Mini with a Realtek USB wireless dongle to connect to the internet. The software and drivers appear connected perfectly and i see the wireless utility and I can access my wireless network, which says signal strength 100%. I connect to it and it accepts the wireless key. Says connected. Then after a few seconds the connection is lost and it says 'Disconnected'. A few seconds later it connects then disconnects and this continues indefinitely but Safari never allows me to access any webpages.Â

I've been stuck at 2.89 GB for that past half an hour. Brand new drive; got it because the old one had an "invalid node structure" and whatever reformat, repartition, disk repair, etc. wouldn't work on it. So now with this new drive, a FantomDrives Gforce Megadrive that I got from newegg sounds OK. It automatically formatted when I asked Time Machine to back it up (OS Extended Journaled Case-sensitive). Using USB 2.0. Any tips/suggestions/insight on what might be going on?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI run a dual 2 GHz G5 PPC (OS 10.4.10) - for the past 4-5 months I've been getting freeze ups for no apparent reason. These nearly always happen around the same time in the evening (around 11 pm) - although not every evening - probably 2/3 times a week. They can happen whether there is any activity on the computer or not. There is never anything on the console log at the time of the freeze up. I'm putting off an archive and install - though I've tried everything else - Disk First aid, Disk Warrior, permissions, fsck, cache cleaning, font checking, Memcheck, re-booting in safe mode, re-applying combo update, resetting the PRAM etc. - I've even tried replacing my secondary hard drive. I've also tried watching the Activity monitor around the problem time - unfortunately this is when it decides not to happen.
The Mac appears to run ok during the day (usually on by 7.30am) One other slightly odd thing is that sometimes at boot up a warning screen will appear and vanish in a 'nanosecond' - I think it could be the device removal warning -though nothing apart from my two internal drives may be connected. I also get this in the start up log 'family specific matching fails' on a number of usb items. Hope someone can help I'm running out of ideas.

This just started happening randomly as of an hour ago or so. I can't even open the YouTube webpage fully, open Hulu Desktop or watch a video on Hulu without my browsers instantly freezing and forcing me to Force Quit and restart them. Any idea on why this is happening? Obviously I can visit other websites fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI own a 15 inch mid-2010 macbook pro and have Windows installed via bootcamp. Because of this, I often shut down and reboot the computer into the other partition. I would say I switch between Windows and Mac OS X about six times a day.
Since I reboot often, I was just wondering if doing this does any damage to the hard drive or other hardware.
My MBA has the clicking and it is quite annoying but when I am using Windows through Bootcamp, the clicking occurs less frequently and is not as noticeable. Does XP access the hdd differently than OS X.

When I got my MacBook a few weeks back it had a faulty disc drive and subsequently got replaced to the MacBook I have now. Getting back to the point on both this macbook and the first macbook I had it had a strange issue, where sometimes the trackpad cursor would freeze for a few seconds even though I'm moving my finger over the trackpad still. It would occur more often when I have my leftside-finger on the bottom left of the corner and tracking with the my rightside-finger as you would a usual notebook...it happens quite frequently.

While using the Internet, web pages will no longer load, my mail client can't connect to the mail server, etc.When I use the terminal to ping Google or any other site, I get the message that the server can't be found.In the menu bar, the WiFi icon indicates a strong connection, but when I open Network Preferences, it says that WiFi is off.When I click, "Turn WiFi on," the menu bar icon goes to the empty fan icon but WiFi refuses to turn back on again.The only thing that I've found to work is to restart, and once or twice now that hasn't worked either.
One other thing I noticed was that this last week Network Preferences had identified my fitbit tracker USB syncing dongle as a network device and had added it to the list of devices on the left side of the preferences pane.This happened after I had already begun to have problems, and after I deleted the syncing dongle from the list, WiFi came back up again with no problem.This is a MBP with a 2.7 GHz i7, eight GB of RAM, running 10.7.4.Can you offer any solutions or suggestions for further troubleshooting?
