IMac :: Pinwheels For Few Seconds When Wakes Up
Nov 30, 2009
I can't find any other thread out there about this. I was wondering what the fix for when my iMac 27 c2d comes out of sleep and pinwheels for about 4-5 sec. It only started doing this when I updated to 10.6.2

Several times my MBA (mid 2011) woke up by itself after setting it to sleep within a few seconds. Following appeared in the console:
kernel: Wake reason: EHC2kernel: The USB device HubDevice (Port 1 of Hub at 0xfa000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)kernel: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 2 of Hub at 0xfa100000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (3)
I did a few resets (SMC etc.) and reinstalled Mac OS the first time. It didn't work. Then I did this all again and reinstalled Mac OS a second time. Both times I wiped the SSD. Now my MBA doesn't wake up again by itself. The Apple Hardware Test also was completed with no issues. But the above posted logs still show up when a wake it up by hitting the keyboard. Are these logs failure warnings or normal entries?

Since I've upgraded from MacOSX 10.9 to Yosemite, my MacBook Pro wakes from sleep within 30 seconds. I've tried solutions suggested on Google, but they have had no effect (and usually are about MacBook's waking up after 2 hours).Â
I'm running OSX Yosemite (10.10.1) on s
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
2.4 Ghz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 MB
256 Gb SSD with 125Gb freeÂ
To figure our what is going on I've started OSX in safe mode and logged in using the guest account. Also I've turned off WIFI and Bluetooth. The problem still occurs. The syslog shows relatively little from the moment that I select 'Sleep' and the computer wakes again (see below).

I have a 27" iMac purchased last January. Every time the computer wakes up, the display activates with normal coloring but after a second "shifts" into a different color profile with a blue'ish tint.
All software updates have been applied. I've reformatted the computer twice since the initial purchase. Problem persists.
I'm well aware of the yellow tinge problem with 27' iMacs, but based on my research of past posts the blue color shift has only been a problem with Macbooks.

I have an "Early 2006" model iMac that has been acting a bit funny lately. This is the white 20" Rev A, first-of-it's-kinda Intel Core Duo iMac. Now it's been running pretty well since I got it almost 5 years ago. But lately some of it's activity is puzzling me. Late at night I'll be working on my MacBook and suddenly the iMac will awake from sleep mode. The fans whirl, the DVD drive makes it's usual noises, and the screen remains... blank. Seconds later the sleep light turns on and the computer returns to sleep mode. This happened again this morning when I was sitting at my desk.
I have no idea what's causing this, however it's slightly different behavior to what has happened months ago. Previously the iMac would wake up by itself in a similar fashion, but it's screen would be on and it would act like I pressed the space bar to wake it up. These activities happen randomly, and it's not too frequent, but often enough for me to be confused about this whole thing. I thought that maybe an IR remote was sending out a signal to the iMac. The iMac faces a small window in my room, so the chances are slim that this is the case, I believe I've turned off the IR sensor on the iMac, which may have solved the issue, but I have since turned it back on since I use the remote regularly. Unless there's some IR beam shooting around in my room I can't think of why this would be happening. The machine is of course out of it's AppleCare, so I'm wondering if any of you have ever heard of or experienced this problem. Any help would be great, thanks!
Detailed specs:

Upgraded 2.0GB of DDR2 RAM
ATI x1600 w/ 256MB of VRAM
Upgraded 1TB WD Green SATA HD
Stock DVD-RW
Stock Wireless/Bluetooth

I have a 24" 2.66 bought in Oct 09 and it is current with updates. No matter what I do it will not stay asleep, even when I manually put in down with the power button it wakes a short time later. Is there no solution to this simple problem I know many experience?

I let my iMac sleep when not in use. I have a logitech harmony 550 remote control for my TV. If I press a button on the logitech remote it wakes up the iMac. I went to the bluetooth devices connected and it only shows the mouse and keyboard. How can I correct this issue. The remote control is infrared not RF. My iMac is a 27" Quad Core i7, magic mouse & wireless keyboard.

I recently bought a 1st generation 500GB Time Capsule as I don't need the dual-band functionality of the 2nd Generation. Since setting it up I've been having a problem, whenever my iMac sleeps from a long period of time the backup is delayed when I wake the computer up. This would be less irritating if the backups continued like normal after the computer was awake, but I have to keep re-starting the backups manually to get the backup schedule back on track. This is especially frustrating as the whole point of the system is so I don't have to worry about manual backups.

I have a G5 iMac - 2.1 ghz, 20", 250gb hd and 3gb ram, but it has been having problems starting up and it is also going to sleep midway through a task or at random times totally unprompted.
It now almost never starts up first time (I keep the iMac mains power lead always connected and the mains electricity supply turned on at all times now)- sometimes I will get the 'Start-up Chime' and then the cooling fans start spinning very loudly and then after a few seconds the iMac stops the start-up routine, but often when I try to start-up I don't even get the 'Start-up Chime' and I have to leave it for some time before trying again.
I can also now only get the iMac to run as a Firewire Target Disc by starting up with the T key held down and then using an old G4 (400mhz) Powerbook Titanium as the screen/keyboard by using the iMac HD as the startup disc for the Powerbook but this is obviously just a temporary work around.
I have also tried backing up all my data, and reinstalling the Mac OS X onto the iMac but the iMac still will not start-up normal and I still have to use it just as a Firewire HD.

I am using a Mac Mini with a Realtek USB wireless dongle to connect to the internet. The software and drivers appear connected perfectly and i see the wireless utility and I can access my wireless network, which says signal strength 100%. I connect to it and it accepts the wireless key. Says connected. Then after a few seconds the connection is lost and it says 'Disconnected'. A few seconds later it connects then disconnects and this continues indefinitely but Safari never allows me to access any webpages.Â

My screen savers (any of them) only run for a couple of seconds before returning me to the desktop or any applications running before I turn it on.
I've set the top right corner of my screen (expose') to be the Hot Corner for turning on the screen saver.
That works normally, but it just keeps on turning off shortly after =[
Testing the screen savers in System Preferences make it work but I really don't want to go all the way in there every time to turn it on...
I don't know what's wrong.
##UPDATE## I've found the answer to my problem. It lies in an app called Caffeine. I can either click it so it shows an empty cup or update the app to a more friendly version to my OSX and quit it.
I hope this can help anyone in trouble because this is a really understated issue (at least with Snow Leopard! since it has compatibility problems with the old Caffeine app).

Every 10 seconds there is a clicking sound coming out of the iMac i5, I have a CD loaded at the moment and a USB Stick behind. This is Standby and it should be absolutely quite. I am typing this on my PC next to it and hear the click every 10-20 seconds. Very annoying and an absolute Dealbreaker. This is a 2000 USD machine!

I have an old iMac from circa 2003 that I just reformatted for my kids to use. Since the reformat I have not been able to get the computer to connect to the Airport Extreme on my Time Machine. Now my Time Machine was set to WPA2 so I changed it to a straight WEP and the iMac can handle that but it keeps dropping the connection every 15 to 20 seconds. Can I get the iMac to use WPA2 and or how can I stop the iMac from rejected the Wi-Fi connection every few seconds? Â

Just happening within the last couple weeks... 2.9GHz i5 iMac running 10.9.3..Energy Saver settings set to default from day 1..Display is set to turn off after 10 minutes, put hard disks to sleep when possible, and wake for network access. The screen used to pop right back on after hitting the keyboard or moving the bluetooth mouse... Now it still sometimes comes right back and other times take up to 15 seconds. Just happening the last 2-3 weeks.

I have a 27 inch desktop. Upon turning the computer on within seconds the fan comes on. Then it goes to a high fan. Then it goes to a black screen. Then it shuts off. Then if you click the mouse it will come back on. This cycle repeats itself every 5 seconds. Only one time in the past month did it turn on normally and run for me.

My family just recently upgraded from an old PC to this 27" iMac, during the early part of the summer. While using it over the last little while, I would notice a noise that sounded like a harddrive spinning or possibly some sort of a fan noise. The best way to describe it would probably be as digital noise. It's not incredibly loud, but it's a decent volume, and can get quite annoying. It has a little bit of a squeak to it.
Over the last little while, it's become more constant. When the computer is in use, it'll usually occur quite often. It's quite annoying and obtrusive when I'm watching videos and I'd like to know what it could be.I think our computer is still under warranty, so I'm hoping to find out if it is something wrong, so I can get it replaced.
I've also been wondering if it's a fan, or a regular noise. However, it's so constant that I'm starting to wonder. The other night, I was watching a video and it seemed like it was coming on every 30 seconds for a long span of time. We don't run any memory heavy programs on this computer. If anything, we're just using Firefox, iTunes and/or Messenger. Sometimes Office. There's little to nothing stored on this computer, as it's brand new, so most of its memory is free.

My ALU iMac seems to be waking up sometimes (so not all the time) when I'm at work. I am 100% sure I set it to sleep and everyone else in the house says they didn't touch it. My work schedule is always about the same, so it's strange that 2 weeks ago it was awake when I got home, and since then 2 times more. I've checked the settings, to be sure it doesn't have a schedule to wake and sleep. Everything looks OK. No schedule whatsoever, except wake after power failure.
I've disabled that now but I don't think we had any power failures recently because iStat Pro indicates an uptime of 20 days straight, which would be hard to do without power. Now is there a way to check any logs about wake and sleep times? I'm sure there is a command for the terminal that does exactly this but I haven't found it yet. I ordered the Missing Manual to learn more about OS X but I would like to check this now because the order could take a while.

I see my screen popping on for no reason staying on for 5 minuets or so then going back to sleep. Is this normal? I don't recall it doing this before but I have added an old p.c. to my network and got an iPad. Don't know if ether of those things have any relevance but like i said, I don't remember it happening before. From what I understand, to get spyware or malware on the computer I need to instal it. But I could be wrong. I have an iMac running 10.6.4.

I've owned my G5 for 3 years and recently when I put it into sleep mode it immediately wakes back up. I have a screen saver password so it asks me to enter the password, if I don't it goes back to sleep, then immediately wakes up. It repeats this process a few times before finally going to sleep. This is very weird because I haven't installed anything or changed any settings.

My MBP sometimes wakes up from sleep for no apparent reason. I have it set up in a closed lid/external monitor mode, with a bluetooth keyboard and a wireless usb mouse. To make sure it's not USB activity, I unplugged all USB devices, and switched the USB mouse off. Also made sure "wakeup on ethernet access" is disabled in system prefs, and software update is turned off. Looking at the console, it woke up with a reason:
Wake reason = EHC2 OHC2
Do you know what that is?
Below is a system.log snapshot and console messages when it woke up. Any ideas about what caused it?
