Every 10 seconds there is a clicking sound coming out of the iMac i5, I have a CD loaded at the moment and a USB Stick behind. This is Standby and it should be absolutely quite. I am typing this on my PC next to it and hear the click every 10-20 seconds. Very annoying and an absolute Dealbreaker. This is a 2000 USD machine!

My family just recently upgraded from an old PC to this 27" iMac, during the early part of the summer. While using it over the last little while, I would notice a noise that sounded like a harddrive spinning or possibly some sort of a fan noise. The best way to describe it would probably be as digital noise. It's not incredibly loud, but it's a decent volume, and can get quite annoying. It has a little bit of a squeak to it.
Over the last little while, it's become more constant. When the computer is in use, it'll usually occur quite often. It's quite annoying and obtrusive when I'm watching videos and I'd like to know what it could be.I think our computer is still under warranty, so I'm hoping to find out if it is something wrong, so I can get it replaced.
I've also been wondering if it's a fan, or a regular noise. However, it's so constant that I'm starting to wonder. The other night, I was watching a video and it seemed like it was coming on every 30 seconds for a long span of time. We don't run any memory heavy programs on this computer. If anything, we're just using Firefox, iTunes and/or Messenger. Sometimes Office. There's little to nothing stored on this computer, as it's brand new, so most of its memory is free.
I have an iMac and it is making a constant clicking noise, like twice a second it is clicking (kind of like a slow moving fan sound but a more distinct 'Click'_
What do you think is going on?
first time i have ever come across. I have a Intel 2 MacBook Pro. There is no sound coming from the speakers even though it is not muted and the vol is turned to the max. There is sound coming if i plug headphones in the jack. Just noticed that there is a red light coming from where the headphone jack is...anyone have any idea how i can get my speakers to work again?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThere is a new humming sound coming from my parents iMac, I think it's the processor cooler but I'm not sure. It could be the hard drive as well, I just know it kicks up sometimes when there is a lot of activity. The problem is they don't do a lot on the computer so it scares them.
They are convinced that it is going to die because it's soo old, I think under two years, but this is the second computer they owned. The first was the first 20" G5 iMac that, instead of turning it off the correct way, they just unplugged from the wall outlet. Needless to say it died, but they think it was because their son in law used it too much. I try to tell them that it's because how they turned it off, but they didn't like their son in law, who is now an ex-son in law, so they blame it on him. Yes, I know, my parents are the last people to own a computer.
They also don't want to spend any money on their computer, so worse case scenioro, taking it to the Genius Bar without this computer being under warranty and having them replace the processor fan and/or the hard drive, what would it cost? I think it might just require a new fan for the processor cooler, but what if they need to replace a lot more?
I just turned on my G4 17" 800mhz iMac and there was no gong. I thought it was just turned down. So I opened iTunes and cranked the sucker 2 notches past 10 and still nothing!

ok the issue is that I'm constantly hearing the ticking or clicking sound from my mac mini. Could any tell me what could be making those sound?
If you're having this problem, try adjusting your brightness. I was experiencing this issue today, and depending on where my brightness slider was... it got worse, better, to non-existant.

The hits just keep on coming with this thing First, it arrived with a massive glob of dust trapped between the backlight and LCD panel (still need to take to Genius Bar), then the PSU buzzing started and now it's making a random clicking/popping sound from the lower left. Its a very quiet sound but its noticeable in a quiet room. It appears to be random, but I can reproduce it by opening iTunes, playing a few seconds of a song, waiting at least 10 seconds in silence, then starting another song. *pop* and the song begins. This happens in QuickTime as well. What is going on here? I'm so exasperated right now, I wish Apple would just replace my troubled machine with a new one.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought an iMac 24" 2.8Ghz Dual Core, 2Gb RAM, 320 HDD. This nice iMac has been with me only 2 days and the problems already started. I don't know why when I play a song either in iTunes or in web(audio streaming) the audio suddenly changes. It's as if you applied an EQ and removed all the low frecuencies and after a few seconds the sounds returned just as normal. When this "auto EQ" happens, the sound becomes "brighter" (I hope you understand what I am trying to say) but just as I said, after a few seconds, the sound is played normaly. I am running Mac OS X v 10.5.2.
I have a bunch of movie trailers in a stack on my dock. Every so often when I click on a movie trailer, the video won't appear on the screen for about 10 seconds or longer. It's as if I hadn't click on the trailer to play. Once the video appears I can play it without a problem. Then every trailer that I play after that, opens immediately. Is this normal? Anyone else have this happen to them? I have repaired permissions several times.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI received a refurbished mini this morning, 2.26 160gb. After setting it up I am noticing a constant clicking noise. I do understand that hard drives aren't silent, but this is a constant sound approx. every 20 seconds. This happens even when the mini is idle.
So, I searched around for some information. One suggestion was disk utility, make sure SMART status is verified (it is). It's a fujitsu 160gb.
I recently purchased 13" Macbook Pro (late 2011). I have high expectations with my machine because it has i5 processor. However, a few days into using it I noticed that it would take about 5-7seconds before something I click would open. I mostly have 3-5 apps open, Twitter, Menu tab for facebook, safari, then I would click another another app and it would take a while for that app to open and it is quite annoying. Is this normal?

Anyways, I put a disc in the drive earlier today, and the computer took it right away. That was unusual because half the time it doesn't wanna take the disc (someone at the genius bar assured me all of these Aluminum Macbooks are this way). So continuing with my story, I took the disc out when I was done and I heard slight clicking noises coming from the side where you put discs in. I closed the computer because I thought it would stop it, reopened it, and it was still doing it. So then I restarted it, and I didn't hear it. Now I'm hearing it every so often.

I have checked the wires, they are fine, and both speakers do work - but it could be the socket that's the problem. It's plugged into the line-in socket, I have put the output in System Preferences to Headphones, and everything is inserted correctly.
What do I do?
EDIT: My sound system is plugged into the headphones jack. I have tried putting headphones into the headphone jack and the sound also only comes out of the left earbud.

I didn't play any music. Not beep sound or something similar. The sound comes from one side of the speaker. I closed all application but the sound is still there. Sounds like fan or something blowing inside. I ain't sure. It stops only when I completely shut down my computer. When I switched it on, it's gone. My battery level is low (22%). Does this affect?

I've read in several posts in this website's forum that there's a CPU noise problem with the MBPs, i even got to this site: o-noise-update...The thing is, that my computer is experimenting completely different symptoms, and that's quite annoying. I feel I'm alone in this The thing started like this, I sent my 13" Mid 2009's 2GHZ MBP to AppleCare to be repaired after the audio jack stopped working, they told me the audio card was to be replaced, and they did fix that problem, little did I not notice in the Apple Store (due to the store's natural noisy environment) that after this repair they gave me the computer back with the infamous hissing sound.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI searched mroogle for a while and only found one similar thread but there was no answer. I hear a "pop" coming from the front of my Mac Pro case probably 3-4 times a day. It is random and happens whether I have my external speakers on or off. It sounds exactly like it is coming from the crappy internal speaker that the Mac Pro comes with. Anyone having similar issues or know what is going on? Leopard is up-to-date. My second question, which may help narrow down the issue, is how do I disconnect the internal speaker in the Mac Pro? There must be a cord or something inside I can pull to disable the speaker entirely. I don't use it and if it's causing the popping sound, I might as well unplug it.

It started buzzing and I wasn't sure what it was, until a week later I got a folder with a question mark at log-in, from what I understand my hard-drive died. I replaced the hard-drive myself within a few minutes, very easy and no problems, and it runs perfectly.
It's been two weeks and it's already buzzing again. I take very good care of my Macbook but I do transport it from class and back everyday.
when i use expose or open dashboard or any other screen for that matter that opens up, i always get a high pitched "grinding" noise coming from my display. It wasnt there before and all of a sudden it starts doing this? im very confused about this as i have no idea what it could be
View 16 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new 24 inch 2.66 GHz iMac off of MacMall last week (6 days ago) and it has been working fine up until a day and a half ago. You see, I put the iMac to sleep for a while, and when I woke it up there was a moderately loud (but in no way ear bashing) grinding/whirring sound coming from the left area of the machine under the screen. I now noticed that the longer I have the machine on for, the louder and more annoying it gets. Does anyone know what is there (HDD, fan or what)? Also, is this something I have to worry about or is this an issue all iMac users face? I am new to OS 10.5 and modern Macs. I am really starting to get worried about this, as the machine is almost brand new.
