View 11 RepliesIs there a way to restore Safari 4 (4.0.3) to the old blue progress bar through Terminal?
I've found a few different ways to do it but apparently, they only work for the beta version of Safari 4. This is one of the ways I've found: http://www.silvermac.com/2009/safari...abs-placement/
I may get used to it one day but I don't like not knowing how far along a page is loading.
I'm using OS X 10.4.11 if that matters.
I upgraded to Snow Leopard and a few days later when i went to shutdown my mac pro after i woke it up, i got the blue screen and progress wheel just spinning. After calls with Apple, running both long and short hardware tests, 3 snow leopard discs, a clean install, 2 upgrades, the tech gave up. The clean install was a bare bones install with no applications installed. I would now have to take it into a repair shop and pay for software tests. This is a one year old mac pro with apple care. I used Time Machine to restore to leopard, and all is ok. Has anyone heard of this problem? I'm quit happy to stick with Leopard, but am upset that an apple software problem has to be fixed and paid for by me. I assume if it was a hardware problem it would show up in Leopard.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTime machine failed in progress as my hard drive failed. I have an "in progress" file on my external harddrive that is about 160 GB. I would like to try and load this back onto a new harddrive. Migration assistant is not responsive nor does Time Machine recognize the external drive when connected.

back in Tiger i used Uno to give Safari a graphite progress bar instead of the default aqua blue one.
alas Uno doesnt work in Leopard as its main purpose was to make Tiger have a unified interface which Leopard already has.
so for all you graphite users out there i made a graphite progress bar for Safari which is much better than Uno's. to apply it follow these instructions. download the attached zip file and unzip it quit Safari click "Go to Folder..." in Finder's Go menu or press "command-shift-G" while in the Finder and copy and paste this directory "/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources" in backup &/or trash the three .tif files by the same name as the attached files drag the 3 .tif files from the folder you just unzipped into Safari's Resources folder open Safari and the graphite progress bar should appear.
Safari still stalls when loading many pages with load progress bar about 30%. If I hit stop and reload it loads fine.

just wondering, my safari is refusing to load certain internet poges. The best example i can give is when i try to log into facebook, i click the "log in" button after entering my details and it doesnt load and then gives me the Blue circle underneath the cursor and stays like this until safari is quit.
ive tried resetting safari and even restarting the macbook but i dont know what can be causing it.
I've notice on the Apple site in the build/buy section that the little blue highlighted circles don't appear in safari unless I open a new window! If I visit the same page in a new window then they appear! The same for Youtube in the edit subscription section. I've reinstalled flash but no luck.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBack when I got Safari 3 I remember there was a terminal command to disable the blue loading bar and enable the "Loading" in Safari. Will that work again in Safari 5? Also, is there a way to disable that auto fill? For example when I type ama. It auto completes to amazon.com/cgi-xxx rather than defaulting to just amazon.com which Safari 4 did, super annoying. For example. I frequent buy.com. So the new Safari remembers what buy.com sites I go to, so when I start typing buy. It then goes to [URL] before buy.com because that's the last site I visited. Why the hell would they do this in the new version, it's awful.
View 24 Replies View RelatedRationally, I think I like the blue bar because when a page finishes to load, the whole address bar turns from blue to white, a very noticeable signal. I often start reading while the page loads, so the blue-to-white "flash" is easily registered by my peripheral vision.
Safari 4's purple/gray rectangle was much harder to notice, causing me to shift my focus between the content and the address bar. Now, I can concentrate on the content and let my peripheral vision tell me when the loading is done. Much more relaxing.
I was forcibly migrated from DSL to Fiber Optic internet services (uverse) & ever since I am consistently seeing a small blue box with a white question mark in it where a picture should be. It is happening on multiple sites & it does it randomly only when I'm using my home router. If I am using another internet provider, it doesn't happen & I've checked a few forums & all of their solutions don't work for me. I was advised not to delete & reinstall Safari but I'm afraid it is only occuring at home that something is wrong with the services/router/signal because nothing else has worked. If I take it to the apple store or anything of the like, it will work so it's not as if I can "show" someone unless they're at my home.

What's new, according to the release notes:
Firefox Sync is now integrated into the browser
A new tab overview feature has been added
New API for accelerated JavaScript animations
Buffered property in HTML5 video supported
There have also been a bunch of other changes that affect add-on developers, detailed here.
My right shift key has fallen off and the key is pressed and it won't release, so everytime I turn the MacBook on it goes into safe mode. The warranty on the Macbook is runout as well.

So basically when I'm on an article or website ESPECIALLY AMAZON.COM (I use Amazon almost everyday) the annoying blue hyperlinks show up and when I scroll past them the show ads. How do I get rid of them??? Also, on Amazon.com on Firefox mainly, some type of malware changes the layout of Amazon to black and orange and puts boxes around everything!!! New update for Logic released today, unfortunately it strips out hyperthreading support that previously worked on quad mac pro and iMac i7 machines, causing a major drop in performance from the previous version. I would wait on upgrading until they have a 9.1.3 that fixes this major issue, or at the very least back up 9.1.1 before doing the upgrade.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFollowing an earlier open beta, Adobe on Tuesday released version 2.0 of its Photoshop Lightroom post production photography software, which stands as the company's first application to run 64-bit-native on Apple's Mac OS X Leopard operating system.
The San Jose-based software developer is particularly proud of the accomplishment given that Lightroom's main competitor, Apple's Aperture, has yet to see native 64-bit support.
Adobe has committed to delivering 64-bit versions of Photoshop and its other Creative Suite applications, but said earlier this year that those updates will take considerably longer due to Apple's decision to scrap plans for a 64-bit version of its Carbon developer tool set.
For Lightroom 2.0, 64-bit support will allow the application to address large amounts of memory in excess of 4 gigabytes, which will speed up overall performance for photographers dealing with large scale images that must be swapped into and out of memory during processing-intensive operations.
The software also aims to streamline and accelerate photographers workflows through an enhanced Library module featuring the ability to visually organize images across multiple hard drives. A Library Filter Bar and Suggested Keywords feature work towards simplifying the search and retrieval process.
Two other highly touted features of Lightroom 2.0 are dual-monitor support for maximizing workspace and more efficient printing tools. For instance, the software now arranges photos of multiple sizes on one or many pages with customizable templates to maximize paper and ink. Intelligent algorithms then automatically determine optimal sharpening for screen or print, producing crisper images faster.
Adobe is also rolling out new RAW technology that gives photographers access to flexible camera profiles that will help reduce unexpected changes in the quality of their photographs.
"Camera profiles are the visual starting point for the raw processing workflow, but image preferences vary for every photographer," the company siad. "To minimize surprises, Adobe is supplying default camera profiles that closely emulate the visual looks that photographers are used to seeing from their favorite camera, while also providing the ability to create highly customized profiles to suit different tastes."
Camera profiles are available for immediate download on Adobe Labs for use with Lightroom 2 and Camera RAW 4.5, along with a DNG Profile Editor for the community to test and create their own profiles. The tools currently support over 190 camera models including the Olympus E 420 and E 520 models.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 is available for immediate download (or shipping) through the Adobe Store in English, French and German with the Japanese language version planned to be released at a future date. New licenses cost $299 and upgrades fetch $99.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]
