MacBook Pro :: How To Exchange Products

Sep 23, 2009

I bought a macbook pro about 3-4 months ago. I posted before with problems, though it's getting much worse. Initially the "return" key stuck pretty badly. I brought it into the genius bar and they claimed they didn't feel it (it's very very obvious, they clearly just didn't want to deal with it).

Anyways, a month after that the computer began rattling. Ever once in a while it would make a prolonged and negative sound. When I pick it up nowdays it sometimes makes a suspicious sound as though something is moving freely inside.

And finally, another month later and two hours ago, the battery failed. It now only runs when plugged into the adapter, and its status is "service battery" in the little icon thing.

At this point I really feel the computer should be traded out; too much is going wrong for a mere fix (and the genius bar has been very stubborn with me in terms of admitting problems). So, symptoms in mind, do you think I should be able to trade in my mac, and how would I go about doing this?

Software :: Logic Update 9.1.2 Released - Do Not Upgrade

Oct 14, 2010

New update for Logic released today, unfortunately it strips out hyperthreading support that previously worked on quad mac pro and iMac i7 machines, causing a major drop in performance from the previous version. I would wait on upgrading until they have a 9.1.3 that fixes this major issue, or at the very least back up 9.1.1 before doing the upgrade.

Software :: Photoshop Lightroom 2 Released As Adobe's First 64-bit Mac App

Jul 29, 2008

Following an earlier open beta, Adobe on Tuesday released version 2.0 of its Photoshop Lightroom post production photography software, which stands as the company's first application to run 64-bit-native on Apple's Mac OS X Leopard operating system.

The San Jose-based software developer is particularly proud of the accomplishment given that Lightroom's main competitor, Apple's Aperture, has yet to see native 64-bit support.

Adobe has committed to delivering 64-bit versions of Photoshop and its other Creative Suite applications, but said earlier this year that those updates will take considerably longer due to Apple's decision to scrap plans for a 64-bit version of its Carbon developer tool set.

For Lightroom 2.0, 64-bit support will allow the application to address large amounts of memory in excess of 4 gigabytes, which will speed up overall performance for photographers dealing with large scale images that must be swapped into and out of memory during processing-intensive operations.

The software also aims to streamline and accelerate photographers workflows through an enhanced Library module featuring the ability to visually organize images across multiple hard drives. A Library Filter Bar and Suggested Keywords feature work towards simplifying the search and retrieval process.

Two other highly touted features of Lightroom 2.0 are dual-monitor support for maximizing workspace and more efficient printing tools. For instance, the software now arranges photos of multiple sizes on one or many pages with customizable templates to maximize paper and ink. Intelligent algorithms then automatically determine optimal sharpening for screen or print, producing crisper images faster.

Adobe is also rolling out new RAW technology that gives photographers access to flexible camera profiles that will help reduce unexpected changes in the quality of their photographs.

"Camera profiles are the visual starting point for the raw processing workflow, but image preferences vary for every photographer," the company siad. "To minimize surprises, Adobe is supplying default camera profiles that closely emulate the visual looks that photographers are used to seeing from their favorite camera, while also providing the ability to create highly customized profiles to suit different tastes."

Camera profiles are available for immediate download on Adobe Labs for use with Lightroom 2 and Camera RAW 4.5, along with a DNG Profile Editor for the community to test and create their own profiles. The tools currently support over 190 camera models including the Olympus E 420 and E 520 models.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 is available for immediate download (or shipping) through the Adobe Store in English, French and German with the Japanese language version planned to be released at a future date. New licenses cost $299 and upgrades fetch $99.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

OS X :: Apple Products Not Made To Last

Dec 21, 2009

Has anyone else experience a problem with apple products, where it seems just over the year warrenty, your ipod, or mac starts to play up?

I bought a Macbook in September 2007, I was always extremely careful with it, only used it for home use (barely ever took it out to uni or friends), and used the disc drive only when putting cds onto itunes, or watching installing software. Yet, by December-January of 2008, the Disc drive was making funny noises, and stopped working. Again, I never overused it, nor did I underuse it, I was always careful with my macbook, and yet the drive just went. I can't afford to replace the drive, nor can I afford to purchase a new computer, so I've continued using it.

My ipod 120g, which I got for Christmas last year, has recently started to play up. It frequently freezes, sometimes doesn't show up on the computer, etc. Now for both of these products, the warrenty expired either days or a couple of months after these problems occured, so I have no help from apple.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this phenomenom? To me it seems almost as if Apple only design their products to last a year, expecting people to upgrade and thus fork out more money. Let me make this clear that I love using Mac OS x, it's pure quality, fast and efficient, but the hardware just doesn't match it's quality. I really wanted to continue to be a mac owner in the future, and yet, I refuse to fork out yearly for an upgrade.

I know there is the option of a 3 year warrenty with apple, but it costs an absolute bundle, $400 if I were to buy the $2000 (aussie dollars) macbook pro, so I won't be doing that. Also, I don't think it's ethical to expect your customers to fork out approx. 20% of the cost price for a guarentee that your machine won't break down for 2 extra years.

To me, Apple is, Apple has become, the Microsoft of the 21st Century.

OS X :: Safari Does Not Allow To Add Products To Cart

Jul 10, 2010

My wife does a lot of online browsing/shopping on a number of different sites, and is having a odd issue. The first time it happened, I thought it was a fluke, but it just happened again today. The specific sites that the problem occurred on were forever21 and piperlime. What happens is that you can no longer click on individual products to see the product details page--it just takes you to a blank white screen. Also, the site (or Safari) doesn't let you add any products to your cart--you can click on "Add to cart", but it never actually puts the item in your cart; the cart remains empty. If I quit Safari (not just close the window), and reopen Safari and reload the site, all is well. I'm thinking this may be a Java or Flash issue - Running 10.6.4, Safari 5.0 and the latest version of Flash (10.1.53.64).

OS X :: Apple Products Won't Connect To Wireless?

Jul 15, 2009

First off, I am sure to be VERY computer challenged compared to most of you. I apologize for that in advance. Here is the problem. We have been a PC based family for years and years. We just started to go Mac. My son got an iMac and my wife an iTouch. We have a wireless internet network in the house. The wireless is set up w/ Lynksis (I don't know if that makes a difference for my question.) I have connected to this network with more than one computer and more than one laptop. I have never had a problem. My son's iMac (airport) picks up the network and seems to be connected but can't do any more. It cannot connect to the internet. My wife's iTouch is the same. Our PC based computer and laptop will connect though. My son's iMac DOES, however, occasionally connect to the internet using the neighbors VERY weak signal. My wife's iTouch will connect on other networks (i.e. Panera Bread's) so I kno that works as well.
