MacBook :: Safari Won't Even Use WiFi Correctly, Firefox Works 90% Of The Time?
Feb 11, 20091. Incredibly flaky wireless. Safari won't even use WiFi correctly, Firefox works 90% of the time, but sometimes it just kicks my WiFi off. Same with Windows XP in VMWare.3. Above all, I'll be in the middle of doing a project, AND IT WILL DEMAND I TURN IT OFF? Why!? Why would I want to turn it off? It makes me for god's sakes, and I lose whatever I was doing. See the picture attached below, it's happened half a dozen time in five days, and no way to stop it.

Aug 29, 2010I recently arrived at college and when you join the wifi network (and through ethernet) you have to register your computer. I did this at orientation and everything worked fine. Once I got here I had to reregister (maybe they reset something in the system, so I don't think its a big deal but youre supposed to only have to register every 12 months).
I believe what happened is I opened Safari and I registered over Wifi and ethernet. And then nothing would load while I was on wifi, but Skype would work (but I've noticed that the Pandora One app won't load, but I'm not going to worry about that, at least for now. I can use the website).
So after like an hour chatting with tech support, resetting Safari, restarting, trying Chrome, I go in to the library where tech support is.
OS X :: Firefox 3.0 No Longer Works?
Feb 20, 2009For a long time I was running Firefox 3.0 just fine, until a few months ago when every time I tried to open it, it froze up and I had to shut it down. I removed it and installed Firefox 2.0 which was fine for a while but I would really like to start using 3.0 again.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting my Firefox profile, etc.
I'm on a PowerBook G4.

Aug 23, 2009I use Firefox, and I do a 3 finger swipe upwards, it will go to the top of the page. And when I swipe downwards, it goes to the end of the page. I find this really useful. But when I switch to Safari, the same motion does nothing at all

Aug 26, 2010I noticed that Safari wouldn't load a web page. So I went to my back up browser, Firefox. Well it loaded just fine. So at this point, I figured that it may be my schools crappy WiFi/lame firewalls or something of the sort. Well now I've been on my home WiFi for a few hours and it still won't connect. I've restarted my computer a few times and even reset Safari. Safari Version 5.0.1 (6533.17.8).

Nov 1, 2007I'm having a strange issue after upgrading to Leopard. When I try to open certain pages in Safari it instantly gives me the "Safari can?t find the server" message. When I try to open the same page in Firefox at the same time it opens normally. For many pages (like this one) Safari is working fine. My connection seems good and this is happening on reliable sites (currently Safari won't open apple.com).

May 7, 2009During the past few hours I've tried to load gmail and youtube in FF and Safari multiple times, but every time I do I get the spinning wheel of death. The pages will load and whenever I try to click on something I will get the wheel.
Yesterday I was on a myspace page and I received a message saying something about how the Adobe page scripts for that page were being unresponsive or something? I'm not sure exactly what it said...
Anyways, is there any way I can get this resolved? It sounds like it has to do something with a plug-in or an update.

May 31, 2012I am having trouble with Silverlight, which is necessary to stream movies on Netflix. Every time I click on a movie to watch I get a prompt to install Silverlight, even though I have already done so. This occurs on Firefox, my default brower, but not on Safari or Chrome.
I am running a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.7.3. It seems there is some incompatibility problem that affects Firefox but not other browsers. I could switch to Safar or Chrome as my default browser or stay with Firefox and use another browser for Netflix, but neither solution is perfect, and I would love to get Netflix to work on Firefox.

Mar 31, 2012After restarting, Safari suddenly doesn't load any webpages. It shows all the top sites in the favorites area and actually updates some to the most recent versions, but when you try to get to the site it shows the loading bar to about an 1/8th of the way and then just pin wheels. Firefox works fine. I have used the reset to no avail. Have the current version and have been running it for a while with no problems.

MacBook Air :: Vista And Multitouch Trackpad Freezes
Feb 7, 2008I am about to buy a Macbook Air, and I bumped into this review by Notebook Review [URL]. Obvious problem we encountered with the multitouch touchpad under Windows was the issue of touchpad freezes and blue screens. We suspect there is an issue with the touchpad drivers for Windows since we could consistently cause a failure simply by touching the touchpad with multiple fingers. It's pretty clear there is a problem when multiple touches disable a "multitouch" touchpad.
Overall the machine seemed to enjoy running inside Vista more than it did OS 10, but bugs were prevalent all throughout bootcamp with the current Apple-provided drivers. The touchpad was the source of many problems, including six bluescreens and 30+ touchpad lockups from "multiple touches." While the features worked occasionally trying to use the scrolling motions or even tapping multiple fingers on the touchpad would be enough to lock until a reboot. The bluescreens would often come at random, with the culprit always being the "Applemtp.sys" driver crashing. More than a few times the machine would bluescreen when I was not even touching anything on the notebook.
I hoped I could use this laptop for regular work (does not require processor-intensive tasks) but now I am starting to worry. Did anyone who has installed either XP or Vista help me understand if this is something I need to think about? Anyone who has installed XP or Vista using VMWare Fusion or Parallels please let me know if Windows works well, or if it gets bothered by the multi-touch trackpad...

I've been checking out the multitouch apis now present in AppKit (taken from cocoadex) and I'd like to get some other MacBook Air owners to try it out and tell me their impressions. The application is a simple web browser (more info at flarebrowser.googlecode site) but the multitouch version is an experimental build that's not on the site yet, so if you'd like to try it just post here and I'll let you know the link. Using multitouch you can pinch to zoom a page in/out, and three-finger-swipe to change tabs. Update: I have an experimental Intel-only build available from [URL].

Jan 11, 2009I�ve a weird problem with the trackpad of my brand new 13" MacBook:
there are three user accounts on it, let�s say "Admin", "User-1" and "User-2". While the multitouch option is working fine for the "Admin" and "User-1" accounts, it does not work in the "User-2" account, no matter which settings I try in the trackpad system preferences panel.
I�m pretty sure that this has something to do with the fact that the "User-2" account is the only one that was migrated (using the migration assistant) from my old G4 iBook. I reckon that this caused some incompatible system preferences to be installed somewhere in the depths of the "system" or "user/library" folders.

Jun 27, 2009I just installed a Seagate 500gb, 7200rpm hard drive in my 13" MBP that was updated to EFI Firmware Update 1.7. Clean install of OS X and iLife '09 & iWork '09 went fast. It's quite and fast compared to my old Samsung 500gb, 5400rpm hard drive. It was worth the $120 I spent on it!
