Jun 12, 2012Time machine failed in progress as my hard drive failed. I have an "in progress" file on my external harddrive that is about 160 GB. I would like to try and load this back onto a new harddrive. Migration assistant is not responsive nor does Time Machine recognize the external drive when connected.

Jun 28, 2014I've just got myself a nice new Mac Pro and am really surprised to find that it is more different to Windows than I was expecting.   I feel like a toddler trying to learn a new language to do all the things I am used to doing on Windows.Â
Quite often I just Google my Q's....or search on YouTube, and usually get the answers quickly.
I can't seem to find a specific answer for this Q though.....
On Windows, whenever you downloaded something, you were given a % telling you how much had been downloaded and how much was left still. It also gave you the progress in gb / kb.Surely there must be a way of having this info show whenever I download something ? I really do not want to go to the App Store and start buying things.
MacBook Pro :: Showing Apple Logo And Progress Bar On Startup Then Shutdown
Feb 19, 2012I forgot to switch on the power socket at the wall so when I came back it had powered off. When I switched it back on it showed the last screen visible before sleep mode kicked in and then showed the apple logo with a progress bar underneath. The progress bar starts to move slowly but after about a minute starts again. It slowly starts to move again but stops after about two minutes and the macbook powers off.

Downloading took less than 30 minutes on my high speed connection.
After reinstalling Maverics is installing saying 'Time remaining: About 120 hours and 17 minutes'
i don't want to spend 120 hours!!!

May 17, 2012Occasionally I see a Download screen showing a download strip/meter of files being downloaded. Other times I'm downloading,for example a yousendit file, but can't recall where to go to see % complete. I'm on Lion OS. I did go to Downloads but not there. I'm downloading to a Folder within a Folder on my desktop.

Jun 4, 2012I purchased Lion at the App Store. I hit Download, it goes grey for about 3 seconds, then "Download" shows again. I get no progress bar. It appears to be locked up for some reason and won't start the download. Lion is listed in my Purchases, so the purchase appears to have gone OK. It just won't start the download. I am running OS 10.6.8, on a 2x2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.
I dragged the following to the trash:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
~/Caches/com.apple.appstore
~/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
Maybe it thinks I have already downloaded but I can't find it in my Downloads, and the "Download" button would not be there if it thought this.

Jun 14, 2012I've just purchased a game in the app store, but it's been a bit weird as I had to confirm some details, and now I can't actually work out whether the game is downloading or whatever. Can anyone advise me as to how I can see the progress of the download or whatever?

Jun 23, 2010Just got my new macbook pro 13 and have gone through messes with some of the system preferences and am downloaing some stuff. I dunno whether if is affecting it but my estimated battery life says 2 hours and is around 90% now. I did fully charge it and have some other stuff on the background so. Also, I've read that people have it charged for maximum battery life so. If you can charge it, do it or if its around 60% or something it should be charged?

App Store :: Why Won't The Mac Show The Download Progress Bar Anymore
Jun 1, 2012why wont the mac app store show me the download progress bar anymore? im using Version 1.1.2 (92.8) which seems to be the newest. i today bought a game on the app store which is 15gb. and in the mac app store under "purchased" it wont give me a download progress bar. even in the help file of the app it is said to be there next to the app just bought in the list. however. lauchnpad does give me a progress bar. which is just rather sloppy because it indicates nothing on speed or time remaining.   how come mac app store removed the status bar?Â

Oct 28, 2010I am new (sort of) to owning a Mac, I bought my macbook pro a couple days ago, so far I havent used it much for other than surfing the net. My question is regarding the Battery time remaining indicator, first of all it changes alot, so i never truly know how much time I have left. Is this normal? It can say anywhere from 3-6 hours left when I am at 90% battery. Usually at 90% battery it says I have about 4.5 - 5 hour left. I thought I was supposed to get up to ten hours of battery? The percent indicator seems to go down fairly fast like 1% every few minutes. Is this Normal? Should I take my macbook over to the apple store to be checked out?

Jun 20, 2012The battery indicator on the top menu bar on my other MBP's gives 3 selectable options for display: Icon Only, Percentage, and Time Remaining. My new MBP retina only has 'Icon' and 'Percentage'. You can still see time remaining by clicking on the battery icon manually.Â
Applecare said "they must have removed it for that new version of the MBP, you could always try reinstalling the O/S from scratch just to be sure".Â
Under Energy Saver the only option is to 'show battery status' on the top bar.Â

Aug 31, 2014Sometimes, after downloading an app from the Mac App Store, the progress bar keeps saying it's almost downloaded but not finished. The only workaround I know is restarting the computer.  The icon remains this way:

MacBook :: Mavericks Won't Download And Progress Bar Stays Empty
Jun 4, 2014I have been trying to upgrade to OS X Mavericks. I went to the AppStore searched it, it came up and I clicked download. Then it asked for my apple id which i put in as usual, then it says downloading and the mavericks icon goes down in my dock bar. The problem is I have waited five hours and the progress bar hasn't moved at all. I don't have anything open but the mavericks downloader on my computer and I have tried restarting and pausing the download. A total of 20 hours for waiting for it to download. I have also typed codes into terminal, but this did not work.

Jul 1, 2012Ever time I try to download anything from the web Safari crashes and closes down, it even crashed this morning when I tried to download an update for it. Is there a problem with Safari or should I check for other problems . Someone told me to download Fiefox but I couldn't even do that, I'm sorry I actually bought this computr, I'm not the greatest with computers but never had so many problems with the other systems.

Apr 1, 2008back in Tiger i used Uno to give Safari a graphite progress bar instead of the default aqua blue one.
alas Uno doesnt work in Leopard as its main purpose was to make Tiger have a unified interface which Leopard already has.
so for all you graphite users out there i made a graphite progress bar for Safari which is much better than Uno's. to apply it follow these instructions. download the attached zip file and unzip it quit Safari click "Go to Folder..." in Finder's Go menu or press "command-shift-G" while in the Finder and copy and paste this directory "/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources" in backup &/or trash the three .tif files by the same name as the attached files drag the 3 .tif files from the folder you just unzipped into Safari's Resources folder open Safari and the graphite progress bar should appear.

OS X :: Loads Grey Apple Progress Bar On Startup Every Time?
Nov 27, 2009Went to the Apple store, explained my problem and they brought out a new iMac for me. Did a retail swap instead of going through the Genuis Bar. I'm so happy =) =) Got a brand new iMac. This time, I disk Disk Check right away, and it says hard drive appears to be OK. No grey progress bar anymore! The problem was probably b/c the hard drive was defective. It had nothing to do with the unsafe shutdown, or pressing shift, etc...
I have a iMac 27'.. Purchased it 2 weeks ago.
I think I did an unsafe shutdown.. Or I pressed "shift" while booting, or something.. Idk and I also have WinXP installed on BootCamp. However for some reason now every time I startup my Mac, it loads with the grey Apple horizontal progress bar with a little loading animation on top. It's so annoying. This didn't happen after no firmware upgrade or anything. And I don't have any extra hard drives attached. Nothing. Everything is fine. Everything used to work. Even with BootCamp before. I think this happened after an unsafe shutdown or something. And also, my Mac has over 500GB free space still, so that's not an issue.
The progress bar at startup Takes 5-6 min extra to boot up. After it, the Mac OS X loads and everything is fine but that's not what my problem is. My problem is why should I be getting the stupid progress bar EVERYTHING I load my Mac?
I tried booting with installation disk, then going to Disk Utility but NOTHING. I click repair, and after 5 mins some error pops up saying backup your files when you can then reformat the disk.
Oh btw, Anytime I click Repair Disk it goes, then says: Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required. And after that it says: "Disk Utility stopped repairing "MY DISK NAME HERE". Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backend-up files.
Maybe the hard drive is damaged or defective.

I have installed Adobe Reader 10.1.3 and am using Safari 5.1.5 and Mac OS 10.6.8.

MacBook Pro :: Should I Trust My Batteries "time Remaining"?
Nov 11, 2010So im a new mac user and had a question about battery life. i did all the things apple says to insure a longer life such as calibration of the battery, using it at half brightness, turning off blue tooth, half volume etc. but i notice that when i plug out my charger it will estimate time remaining as 8 hours or so but like 2 minute later it will go down to 6 hours and fluctuate between 5-8 throughout the time using it. what gives?

Just running on battery, the estimated time remaining is normal. About 4:00 with a 97% charge.
But when I have it plugged in, it goes really low. About 20-14 minutes. I know I have an almost full charge and the battery isn't shot or anything because I just used it for about 3 hours yesterday without plugging in. Even with the innacurate estimate it still reports the % correctly.
The iStat widget reports similar numbers, but not exactly the same. 16 on it, as opposed to 13 in the menu bar.

Apr 28, 2012The wife accidentally deleted Safari and Quicktime from our iMac but Apple.com only offers these programs for Snow Leopard and Lion. How can I get these programs back? Is there maybe a third party? Can I use either of the DVD's that came with the Mac? If so, how can I choose to only install said programs without necessarily reinstalling all of the OS X and risk losing picture and movie files?

Oct 3, 2009I've searched the web and the forums but I do not find anything that matches my problem, here it is. I'm using 1 Time machine drive (WD My Passport Studio 500 GB FW 800 for Mac) for my two machines, MacBook Pro (June 09, upgraded from Leopard with Snow Leopard Up to date disc) and my MacBook white (Late 2007, upgraded from Leopard with Snow Leopard retail disc). On my MacBook white, when I plug in the TM drive via USB, and when I click on the TM icon in the menubar, it says "Calculating changes (or similar)... (1, 2, 3, and so on %) until 100 % and the backup works just fine. But when I plug my TM drive onto my MacBook Pro (via FW), it says "Calculating changes... 1%" and it remains stuck on those 1%, but then after a while starts the backup properly.
