Software :: Assigning Execute Permission To Files Automatically?

Feb 14, 2009

When I create a new file, for example a text file that contains several commands, the new file is automatically only given read and write permissions. I would like the execute permission to also be automatically assigned. How I can change this.

MacBook Air :: Can't Access Certain Files Don't Have Permission

Jul 1, 2014

I have some photos that won't open because it says 'I Don't have Permission to Access."  Out of 700, all in the same folder, only about 200 have this problem.  I did the "Get Info" cans changed permission, but I had permission to 'Read and Write' the file.  Then I tried letting Disk Utility fix it, but it's not an Apple File so it doesn't touch it.  Then I tried the Terminal, but sense it's just in one folder I couldn't figure out how to adjust the one folder. How to regain access to all my pictures?  It's on a Macbook Air running Lion

OS X :: Permission Restrictions While Copying Files From Backup Manually

May 10, 2010

I am running into "chmodperation not permitted" when I try to change the permissions on my time machine backup manually.

Here is the complete info. I brought a new MacMini server and was trying to copy my music folder from time machine backup(of my MBP) into the Server. From the Server I logged in as root and tried to change the file permissions of the music folder with this command
sh-3.2# chmod -R o+rw Music
It throws the above error.

I don't have my MBP with me to do anykind of stuff. I don't want to install SL on my macmini and restore from time machine bckup. Is there any other way.

MobileMe :: Lacking Permission To Delete Old Sync Files

Jun 25, 2012

In preparation for leaving MobileMe, I was clearing out my iDisk. Im noticing there are some old sync files in the Library/Application Support/ that cant be deleted (Contacts, Bookmarks, etc.).

I get the error: "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items."

I believe these might be old sync files from back in the .Mac days. Not a catastrophe by any stretch, but I'd like to be able to clear everything out before being completely disconnected from MobileMe if possible.

Software :: Execute .sh In GUI Without Chmod +x

May 7, 2009

I'll have to provide some background info so you know what's going on. I'm setting up a preconfigured .conf for Viscosity (OpenVPN). What my sh script does is copies all the pertinent files to the correct folders and runs sed to customize it for the particular user. Normally you'd just chmod +x it to make it executable..in this situation EVERYTHING needs to be rolled up into one click as this will be distributed to 'uninformed' users and needs to be foolproof. I've tried "sh->app" rollers such as platypus and they suck and only run half of my script at best. So experts, I Ask, how does one make a self-contained, executable .sh script that can be distributed and executed on multiple computers without ANY user intervention beyond "download this and double click it"

MacBook Air :: Not Auto Assigning IP Address, Won't Join Wifi?

Nov 18, 2008

It's the strangest thing, my wife's MBA (v1) will randomly refuse to connect to our home wifi network (cast by a 500GB Time Capsule). What seems to be happening is that it will connect then disconnect at bootup, it will say no preferred networks are available (when the home network has been configured!) and refuse to assign an IP address to the MBA. If I manually select the home network from the wifi icon, it will diplay security password, and then say this is invalid (when it is perfectly valid and the one used by my own MBP and iPhone)... this seems to happen only on our home network, any other works fine...My own MBP is fine. This is driving me crazy and I haven't found anything on the web on this.

After a bit of filing etc to get it to fit, its all back together and looking/working fine, but I need to change the keyboard layout so the pictures on the keys do what they are supposed to (hope that makes sense?) i.e. on the old one volume up was F5, but on the new one volume up is F12.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mission Control 10.7.3 Assigning Apps To Desktops?

How do I get an app to stick in a desktop. I have the mission control desktop and then desktops 1 through 7. I have them all opening up various applicaitons, but even though I move the app to the desktop I want, and I shut down with the app open in that desktop, on restart it opens up in the wrong desktop...always the same one, but always the wrong one. iTunes - I put it in Desktop 7, its there when I shut down.  It always opens up in Desktop 1.  I don't have trouble with calendar, mail, addressbook. Also, sometimes 'finder' folders that I have left open in a specific window when I shut down do not open up on restart.  They do sometimes, but most of the time not.

Aperture :: Quick View Of Full Image When Assigning Faces?

Jun 26, 2014

I like to use Faces versus Names because I seem to be able to crank through it much quicker.

My flow:

1) I click a project name that has not already had faces assigned

2) I click the faces icon. Then I see the "main" part of the screen with the Faces instructions, and the section under that has the faces that need to be named.  So I start naming them.  There are 100s in this project.

3) Then I come across a face I only "kind of" recognize. I don't know if they are in the background in a crowd, of the focus of the photo. I need to understand the images composition so I can skip them or figure out their name.  I would like to quickly just get a peek at the whole photo.

4) So I switch to the Viewer and it takes me to the first photo in that project.  That's no good.

5) When I switch back to Face I also have to scroll to get back to that face.

Is there a better way to quickly see the whole photo without breaking up my workflow?
