Oct 21, 2009My macbook pro keyboard died, the only replacement I could find was the newer keyboard layout (where the Fn keys have different functions - such as volume has been moved etc). After a bit of filing etc to get it to fit, its all back together and looking/working fine, but I need to change the keyboard layout so the pictures on the keys do what they are supposed to (hope that makes sense?) i.e. on the old one volume up was F5, but on the new one volume up is F12.

Mar 31, 2009I have a problem writing documents in Spanish and it is that I don't know how to use Spanish special characters and symbols used in MS Word, Text Edit or any other text editor in a Mac computer. I have to send status reports in Spanish to my Hispanic customers and I need to learn this before my work accumulates up to a point where I won't be able to catch up.
On a Windows PC it is relatively easy by using a combination of the ALT key and a three digits number that correspond to the letter and then it appears. How do I do it in a Mac?

May 4, 2012When replacing pre-populated (untitled folder) or selected text in Finder, Safari, etc. a special character is added about 1/3 of the time. You can't see it in Finder, but it does show in file names viewed in Terminal, in URLs (only after you hit enter and Safari gets confused) in the file name at the top of certain apps, or on PCs.

Dec 11, 2014How can I add characters to the list of special characters that come up when holding a key? For example, I used to be able to hold the 's' key and when the menu came up I could press 1 for the Turkish 'Åž' character. Now that I have updated to Yosemite, it seems that it has disappeared.

Apr 10, 2012I am trying to hunt down a mystery for a friend using her macbook air (Lion). Â
She is trying to add special characters (accents, etc.) to words in a MIcrosoft Word 2008 document. Â
Sometimes she can hold the key, and the special characters menu will pop up. Sometimes she will get the "old" repeating letter (eeeeeeeeeeeee). I tried to look at everything I could think of, but there seems to be no earthly reason why it does it sometimes but not all the time.Â
The only explanation I could guess at was that it was Word 2008 and Lion (and not Word 2011).Â

Nov 18, 2008It's the strangest thing, my wife's MBA (v1) will randomly refuse to connect to our home wifi network (cast by a 500GB Time Capsule). What seems to be happening is that it will connect then disconnect at bootup, it will say no preferred networks are available (when the home network has been configured!) and refuse to assign an IP address to the MBA. If I manually select the home network from the wifi icon, it will diplay security password, and then say this is invalid (when it is perfectly valid and the one used by my own MBP and iPhone)... this seems to happen only on our home network, any other works fine...My own MBP is fine. This is driving me crazy and I haven't found anything on the web on this.

Dec 20, 2009Recently switched to Mac (Macbook Pro). When I highlight something and hit enter, I'd like it to, you know, open the file. But it doesn't, it allows me to rename the file. Can I change it so enter opens the file/folder, app? I can't even change the settings from system preferences? I need 3rd party programme? Also, could I make a DEL key? Can't I use cmd+X for "cut" function for files/folders?

Apr 8, 2012How do I get an app to stick in a desktop. I have the mission control desktop and then desktops 1 through 7. I have them all opening up various applicaitons, but even though I move the app to the desktop I want, and I shut down with the app open in that desktop, on restart it opens up in the wrong desktop...always the same one, but always the wrong one. iTunes - I put it in Desktop 7, its there when I shut down. It always opens up in Desktop 1. I don't have trouble with calendar, mail, addressbook. Also, sometimes 'finder' folders that I have left open in a specific window when I shut down do not open up on restart. They do sometimes, but most of the time not.Â

My flow:
1) I click a project name that has not already had faces assigned
2) I click the faces icon. Then I see the "main" part of the screen with the Faces instructions, and the section under that has the faces that need to be named. So I start naming them. There are 100s in this project.
3) Then I come across a face I only "kind of" recognize. I don't know if they are in the background in a crowd, of the focus of the photo. I need to understand the images composition so I can skip them or figure out their name. I would like to quickly just get a peek at the whole photo.Â
4) So I switch to the Viewer and it takes me to the first photo in that project. That's no good.
5) When I switch back to Face I also have to scroll to get back to that face.Â
Is there a better way to quickly see the whole photo without breaking up my workflow?Â

Dec 1, 2014Apparently I have over 170 GB of programs saved on my hard drive, but I do not use it for anything fancy or did not install anything spectacular. When checking the program size, iMovie is the biggest one with only 2,1 GB. I cannot find the reason why there should be so much on the hard drive. Â

MacBook Air :: Special Symbols Locked - Startup Screen With Boot Device Selection
May 25, 2012I have a weird problem with my MacBook Air. I was browsing the web when I think I hit a wrong keyboard combination. I was trying to select text cmd+a. But a small white window popped up with some text. After that safari started acting weird. Whenever I tried to open a new link it did not simply open the link like usual. But it downloaded it into my download folder. I also noticed that I could only type special symbols.
So I tried to reboot my MacBook Air. Usually it boots right to the login screen. But now it first shows a startup screen where I can select a boot device. So I select macintosh HD and it boots up like normal. But I can still only type weird symbols so I cant login. First I thought maybe my alt key is stuck but it works just fine and I did not do anything with it.

Now my problem is that I want to control it with the F7, F8, F9 keys which are the rewind, play and forward keys, but when pressing any of them it works both on itunes and cog player. How can I disable the Itunes link to it? I want it to control only Cog player.
