I downloaded some wave sounds that I like to a folder on my HD, but can't figure out how to add them to the 'sound effects' folder in my System Preferences. What's the procedure or am I going about this all wrong.
View 7 RepliesThe sound system on my iMac keeps chirping like a cricket. This happens every few minutes and occurs both on internal and external speakers. It started a few weeks ago and I have made no major changes in the meantime. What is this and how do I make it stop?

I have a really weird problem with my sound on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro. The only sounds I can hear from the internal speakers are system sounds. No other audio can be heard from iTunes, VLC, browsers, etc. The only sounds I can hear are the ones found in "System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects" and iMessage notifications. For a while, I could hear the volume up/down chirp, but even that's gone now.
Everything is fine when I plug in headphones. I thought it was the microswitch in the headphone port, but the Macbook Pro defaults back to "Internal Speakers" when the headphones are removed. Resetting the SMC and running the normal Disk Utility routine doesn't work either. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue with the speakers, either, or I probably wouldn't be able to hear only these specific sounds.

I noticed that my system stopped making system (i.e. Mac OS X) sounds for some reason. Sounds from applications are fine. I checked and unchecked the "play user interface sound effects" check box in the preference panes to no effect.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHere is whats happening: my 3 y.o. 15 MBP is connected to external speakers (Bose MusicMonitor) and every time there is a sound, any system sound, say an email in, a volume chirp, or a Skype chirp, anything at all, I hear an audible POP, before hearing the actual sound, in fact the POP sort of overlays the sound. I hear the second POP sometimes, after the sound has sounded, so to speak, and sometimes the second one does not happen at all. To me it reminds me of the Pioneer Amp my dad used to have in the 70's, when you first turn that thing on, it would produce an audible POP. So, back to to this, it sounds like an amplifier POP by being awaken by the system, and I'm inclined to think it is the MBP's audio "amplifier" on its board. Oh, btw, both the speakers and the MBP's volume is set to low.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a 2.4 MBP model a1260. When I got home i noticed the volume keys were not working, and then i noticed none of the function keys were working properly. (example, f12 shows an eject CD symbol). So, the keys are working but not doing the standard functions such as volume and brightness. I have check and unchecked (and restarted) the "use all f1, f2 as standard function keys" to no result.Some other wierd things that seem to be related are:
1. In the SOUND window in SYS PREFS all sound effects are greyed out. Under OUTPUT and INPUT it says no devices found.
2. When i go to the itunes store in itunes and i double click on a song, it wont play. Not only is there no volume, but song wont play. Its the same with my own music from my cds.
3. When i insert a DVD no volume control shows up.
And the last superwierd thing (haha) is that I reloaded leopard and when the computer restarted up after install there was no OSX music that normally plays as the video flys thru the starfield.
I am looking for a simple photo/picture editor for Mac OS X that allows one to add cartoon effects to a photo/picture. An example of one would be Cartoonize Me for the iPhone and iPod Touch by Portegno Apps; I'd like one for the computer. Being the picky person I am, I'd really like it to be free and for Mac OS X (10.5.5 is my OS). It'd be fine if it's an online or download, as long as it gets the job done.

i was attempting to change the icon of my system pref. the way I have in past OS. This was the first time I had attempted to do it in Snow Lep. Well my method is make a copy duplicate of the system pref application change the icon delete the original remove the word copy from the new one and viola it works perfect. However this time it did not work and now my system pref application will not open at all it says "it is damaged or incomplete"

There are some configurable settings unique to both, so it would be beneficial to have both. However, I wonder, would there be any conflict: for example, if you choose to display hidden/system files in TinkerTool, but forget to also enable that setting in Secrets, what would happen?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro seems to have this odd issue of sound effects (in the OSX desktop) not playing properly. Basically the sfx got cut off in the middle by a subtle cracking sound. This usually occurs when that particular sound is being played for the first time. Subsequent events with that sound play correctly. Hope I'm making sense here . A good example is the startup sound for Skype (this happens with pretty much all the sounds after restart).
Sound in youtube or movies, and music play back just fine. My machine is a 2008 17' MBP running Snow Leopard. Clean reinstall of Snow Leopard doesn't solve the problem. Sound in Windows 7 (boot camp) works well, so I don't think this is a hardware issue. Actually, the problem seems sporadic but pretty bad: in Skype for example, incoming call FX (for first call) sounds glitchy and looped.. Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated. I've looked around the net but couldn't find the solution.
I'm probably going to slap myself for having to ask this, but how do I stop sound effects (deleting files, copying, etc) when I have music playing? It just stutters the actual music playing and makes an annoying sound.

today i was on my macbook and realized that all of my alert sounds were not working. for example, if i got a new message in ichat or new email there would be no sound. Also, when i take a screenshot there is no sound, but there usually is one. My speakers are working because i am able to play music in itunes. Also, i system preferences, the search box does not show any results like it always does

I'm really hoping someone can bail me out here. I'm trying to add sound in the background of a iDVD 7 menu, and it's driving me crazy. I've tried dragging the audio file from the media pane to the dvd menu, to the inspector window and to the menu drop box several times (just like the manual instructs) and it won't work. It doesn't play back or burn with the sound in the menu.

Every once in a while my Mac Mini will start to chirp/squeak. It almost sounds like crickets. It started doing it again about 5-10 minutes ago and just stopped as I began typing this post. Does that sound like it could be the fan making the noise or the hard drive? I would think that if it were the drive I would here it MUCH more often.
