MacBook Pro :: Audio POP Before Hearing Actual Sound / System Sounds Not Working Fine

Mar 31, 2009

Here is whats happening: my 3 y.o. 15 MBP is connected to external speakers (Bose MusicMonitor) and every time there is a sound, any system sound, say an email in, a volume chirp, or a Skype chirp, anything at all, I hear an audible POP, before hearing the actual sound, in fact the POP sort of overlays the sound. I hear the second POP sometimes, after the sound has sounded, so to speak, and sometimes the second one does not happen at all. To me it reminds me of the Pioneer Amp my dad used to have in the 70's, when you first turn that thing on, it would produce an audible POP. So, back to to this, it sounds like an amplifier POP by being awaken by the system, and I'm inclined to think it is the MBP's audio "amplifier" on its board. Oh, btw, both the speakers and the MBP's volume is set to low.

OS X :: System Sounds Via Remote Speakers / Run System Sounds Through Airport Express

I punch my iTunes music through an Airport Express to a remote set of speakers in the kitchen, which works wonderfully, but I'd like to know if there's a way to run the system sounds through the AE as well. In particular, I listen to Pandora (through a browser) on my laptop, but would love to listen in the kitchen. Any way to do this? System 10.4 I believe...

Applications :: What Is The Actual Location Of The Photos That IPhoto Uses

Oct 14, 2009

As far as i can make out, all the photos I see in iPhoto are copies of the original. But where are the original ones, then?

I usually connect my camera to the mac and the photos get copied form there, I know this much.

When I use Finder to try to locate a photo, it is iPhoto that opens it - I don't seem to have a choice. I might want to open the original photo in another program, for example.

OS X :: Apple Mail Makes No Sounds?

Dec 14, 2009

I have configured Mail.app to make a sound (a short MP3 file) when new mail arrives. This used to work a few years ago.

For the past few years it hasn't worked. User interface sounds are switched on and everything is activated in System Preferences and Mail preferences.

When I check the settings for the MP3 file in Mail preferences, it even plays the file there. But when a new mail arrives it does not.

Simiarly, and I don't know if this problem is related or not, Skype has stopped making user interface sounds. Again, this is the same Mac, which is configured for user interface sounds in System Preferences, and Skype is configured to make a ringing sound when I call someone and some weird sound when I receive an instant message in a chat window.

OS X Mavericks :: No Sound On MacBook Pro Except System Sounds

Aug 26, 2014

I have a really weird problem with my sound on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro. The only sounds I can hear from the internal speakers are system sounds. No other audio can be heard from iTunes, VLC, browsers, etc. The only sounds I can hear are the ones found in "System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects" and iMessage notifications. For a while, I could hear the volume up/down chirp, but even that's gone now.

Everything is fine when I plug in headphones. I thought it was the microswitch in the headphone port, but the Macbook Pro defaults back to "Internal Speakers" when the headphones are removed. Resetting the SMC and running the normal Disk Utility routine doesn't work either. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue with the speakers, either, or I probably wouldn't be able to hear only these specific sounds.

OS X :: Apple's Snow Leopard To Include Location - Multi Touch Tools

Feb 5, 2009

Apple's Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system will include tools borrowed from the iPhone that let developers determine the geographical location of Macs, as well as extend additional support for multi-touch to their apps, AppleInsider has learned. People familiar with the latest pre-release distributions of the next-gen OS say the software now includes the CoreLocation framework previously available via the iPhone SDK, which will allow Mac applications to identify the current latitude and longitude of the Macs on which they're running. Since Macs don't include GPS technology like the iPhone 3G, CoreLocation will utilize a Mac's existing networking hardware to triangulate the system's location in a manner similar to the way the original iPhone was able to use the technology to emulate a true global positioning signal. Meanwhile, those same people say that developers writing applications for Snow Leopard will also gain access to a new set of Cocoa-based programing interfaces for leveraging the multi-touch features of the latest MacBooks and MacBook Pros within their applications. AppleInsider first revealed plans for the new multi-touch framework in a an article from last June titled "Five undisclosed features of Apple's Mac OS X Snow Leopard." The report noted that the framework would "consist of code libraries and functions that ordinary developers can use to enhance their applications with the same multi-touch capabilities currently available in Apple-born apps like Safari and iPhoto, and do so with ease." Word of the new location tools in Snow Leopard comes on the heels of an announcement by Google that it will soon deliver its own software that will let iPhones and Macs broadcast their location information over the Internet.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

ITunes For Mac :: Media Folder Location Keeps Reverting To Old Location?

Sep 6, 2014

I moved my iTunes media folder to an external hard drive to free up space on my iMac's hard drive.  The new one is located on a hard drive attached to my Airport Express.  Since then, I keep getting messages stating that certain items weren't copied to my iPhone because the originals couldn't be found.  When I check, the iTunes media folder has reverted to the location on my iMac's main hard drive.

How can I prevent this?  At best this is annoying, but it also is using up hard drive space unnecessarily.  Is this behavior avoidable, or is it something that goes with the territory when you move your media folder to an external hard drive?

MacBook Pro :: System Hangs At Apple Logo Boot Screen / RAM Not Allowing System To Boot

Jan 5, 2011

I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.

Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)

ITunes :: Changing Storage Location With Media In The New Storage Location?

Jun 30, 2012

Equipment: Mac Mini (Early 2009), Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Lion. I started noticing my Mac Mini was having trouble reconnecting my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, slow processing (spinning pinwheel of death), and programs freezing. I did a recovery within Lion from the recovery drive and it seemed to work for a week or so. It started acting up again. So, I decided to erase the HD and reinstall Lion. I basically use the Mac Mini as a server for all my iTunes content.

My iTunes default save location is to my Drobo storage unit. Now that I have reinstalled Lion, I am looking for the easiest, most convenient, and safest way to change the default save location in iTunes and then importing the media. It would be nice if it was possible to just simply change the default save location to the folder I previously had all my media saved in and it would just magically appear in iTunes. Everything was organized perfectly, which took hours of time and attention to details.
