View 8 RepliesI use a White MacBook (early 2008) with OS X Lion on it. I checked for updates recently, when I found that OS update 10.7.4 was available.Â
When I started the update, the Software Update utility asked me to update by restarting. After I did this, the update got downloaded and the machine restarted. Now, it is getting stuck on the boot screen with the Apple logo replaced by a 'circle with a line in it' (like a typical "not allowed") logo.Â

When installing apps through Installer (from .dmg disk images and .pkg packages), everything works smoothly until it asks me for a password. When I enter it, Installer goes back to the screen before it asked me for the password. When I click next, it asks me for my password, and the cycle repeats. I tried removing my password to no avail. I can install .pkg files from the sudo installer -pkg command. I dont know how to do this for installers that are in app form.

My wife's a serious artist; I made [URL] to be a retrospective of her decades of work, to be seen by various museums and galleries. I chose to buy a Macbook and use Iweb as an alternative to spending the same money on some pro using Dreamweaver or GoLive. (I've developed, over years, a strong distaste for Micrsoft.)
The site works fine in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome -- but not in IE -- only occasionally there (usually in IE6) unless one changes IE's "Accessibility" option to "ignore specified website colors" -- which generally screws up the user.
Firefox won't quit I have to force quit it, and for some reason I can't go on websites like ebay etc.

Changing the Safari preference does NOT work. Reseting Safari doesn't either. Should I custom reinstall Safari from the USB thingy? Â

I am running SL and the Gmail Notifier for Mac, and Firefox. Every time I click an email link in Firefox, instead of opening up a "compose mail" page in Gmail like it used to, recently I just get sent to an old-style HTML only Gmail page, as pictured below.
Anyone else experiencing this? it's getting pretty annoying that any time I click an email, I get sent to a useless Gmail page. I've tried googling the problem, but it never turns up results that are relevant.
Preview has always been the engine that Safari used to open PDF in the browswer. Acorbat took over today for unknown reasons to me. How can I switch it back?

Safari wont open any pages such as youtube, facebook etc saying that it cannot establish a secure server. This just happened about 3 hours ago just as my mac went to sleep. The only new thing I did was use an HDMI cable to connect to my TV. The mac had been shutdown for low battery because i fell asleep on movie. Anyways, I woke up plugged in my charger only to find that i can't connect to certain sites... Further compounding my problem is a taskbar that says "The certificate for this website is invalid. You might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be <url here>.

Just installed a new router - a D-Link Dir-825. I am unable to load anything in Safari or Chrome, and Mail will not go online. Only Firefox works. I've flushed my DNS cache in Terminal (I think...) but that didn't work. D-Link does not "support Safari".

long time user of "tray-based" CDROM drive PCs, I never thought of checking what could happen with an iBook and a small form factor CD (mini-CD, as they also call them) ... that is untl today, when I pushhed one of those into my new iBook drive. Now the CD is neither inside fully (to be - I was hoping - pusdhe back by the "eject" key), nor having anything to grab it from, sticking outside the drive. Anybody having run into this problem before? My laptop is brand new, and I would hate to start disassembling stuff, thus loosing the warranty, if I could avoid it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have three computers on my home network; A dual 1.8 G5 with Leopard, a Macbook Pro with Leopard, and a Windows XP Box. My problem with Safari started about 3 months ago, when I tried accessing a website via my g5. Safari said it could not connect to the server. I assumed the site was down. However, I hopped on my MBP and the site worked fine. In fact, I found a lot of sites that my G5 didn't want to access that my MBP could, on the same network. I have flushed my DNS cache, reset safari, cleared safari's cache, reset my router, cable modem, checked the DNS servers. Everything seems identical between the MBP and the g5. The problem happens in both Safari and Firefox
View 12 Replies View RelatedMacBook hangs on certain websites (yahoo mail, cbs sports, mens fraternity) but only from one of my wireless networks. PC works flawlessly on this situation and macbook works flawlessly on my first wireless router so the problem is tied to the interaction between my Macbook and the second wireless router. I've searched the forums and tried many fixes already that have been posted here or elsewhere: Reset Safari (it then allows me to reach yahoo mail once, hangs on every try thereafter). Go to Safari preferences and uncheck the box for warning of fraudulent sites (no change) Go to advanced settings and input DNS numbers from my ISP (this solved the problem for some websites but not others) try firefox (same problem as safari) software update everything (no help) install onyx (about to do that). network is a DSL modem connected to the first wireless router (DLINK N+). Second wireless router is linksys G (the problem child) and it is hardwire connected to first wireless router.
View 13 Replies View Relatedso I've had my MacBook for over a year, and I've never had any issues like this before. On my personal account, Safari, FireFox, Opera, and the like cannot access [URL], [URL](or any variation that leads to the same site), any other Google-based websites, my school's online gradebook, nor will it allow me to log into my Yahoo! account, though i can still search on yahoo. I can use the Google search bar at the top of my safari window just fine, but not [URL], as mentioned before.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis has just recently started happening...when I type in a web address such as [URL] it will pop up and then disappear to a blank screen or some other websites just come up blank....does anyone know how I can fix this. My friend just started a new company and I can't even look at her site because it comes up a white blank screen and apparently I am the only who is having this problem. I have reset Safari and even clean up my hard drive with Onyx. Please help!!! Also, I have seen other post regarding this problem and I have clicked on the links for software for parasites but they all seem to be for Windows. I am running Safari on a Macbook 10.4.11
View 13 Replies View RelatedFor some reason Safari is only loading the title of some website articles and not the text.
Don't know if its an issue with cookies or what, but it's really frustrating.
1st noticed it about a week ago when trying to load my local newspaper website....booted up FireFox for the 1st time in a long time and it loaded the news stories flawlessly.
Today (in the latest version of Safari, of course) I repeatedly tried to fill out a captcha form, and later a password form on different website. Both forms went through fine in Firefox. Is this a common problem or will I have to experiment with deleting preferences, etc.?
Also: I tried a login at another website, which worked fine. But the captcha and the other password form refuse to work.
