OS X V10.7 Lion :: Authentication Fails When Installing Programs
Apr 8, 2012When installing programs that requires me to provide admin privileges to install them, it fails. It always fails, its not just for one specifik program.
1. I click the .app, .pkg, .mpkg or whatever is about to be installed.
2. Click through the wizard that shows up (license, install location etc)
3. When it is time to install, a dialog window pops up. This is where i write my password and click OK.
4. The password is accepted and the dialog closes.
5. Now nothing happens, the program does not get installed.
(when the installer is just dragging the app to Applications, it works)

Sep 5, 2009I am a totally new Mac user and am struggling with the concept of these .dmg files that are downloaded to my desktop when i install a new application (example firefox) and then when i try to delete this file after the installation completes it appears the program requires this to run?
What do you typically do with the files after installaion? Is there a default setting someplace that tells the OS to dump and store these some place else in my HDD?
I also dont understand the icon that then gets placed on my desktop of the (in this example) firefox application... it looks like a new drive but its actually how i start the application? is it the equivalent of a link in windows or is that the .exe and my default file save settings are screwy?

Jul 11, 2009I want to have an idea of what to download when I get my MBP in 2 weeks, as in if there are any exclusive programs for Mac that aren't on Windows. I at least plan on downloading Firefox, Chrome, Skype, AIM, Google Earth, Videora (is there a better alternative that comes with OSX?), etc.

Aug 31, 2008For some time now I have had problems downloading files/programs from the net. Things like OS critical updates; Adobe updates; VMware trial software; games; virus definitions. The download run into problems when unpacking - most common error is that verification failed but there are also failures in unzipping files (NAV installer being the most recent).
I have checked a number of forums and found similar problems but none seem to work (eg. mounting from disk utility). The only thing I haven't done is reinstall from OS archive disk as this could entail reinstalling a lot of things (mind-boggling).
I have a MacBook (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRam) running OSX 10.4.11 and also have Parallels 3 (build 5608) running Vista. The download problems seemed to begin with updating the Parallels software. I received the verification error or a checksum error. I resolved this problem by using different download sites. When investigating this problem it was suggested that the ISP provider was at fault. Is this possible?

Jun 21, 2012For some reason the Mac terminal utility has suddenly started to pop up every time I attempt to down load a program. This has never happened before and I am not sure how to make the changes so this does not happen.

May 27, 2012I juts bought a new Macbook Pro and I downloaded a program I would like to use to make music called Sylenth1 after buying this I tried to installed it by first downloading the dmg file on to my downloads folder, then clicking the box which opened up installer. I followed all the on screen commands to install the program properly, and after instilation it made the chiming noise. Now I cannot find the program anywhere on this computer...

Now... because it's the upgrade version do I need to have a previous version of a Windows OS installed before I can upgrade or can I install straight away? Another question, at some point I'm tempted to upgrade to the 500gb Momentus XT. Will my Windows 7 disk be okay for multiple installs?

MacBook Pro :: 170GB Programs Saved On Hard Drive Without Installing Anything Special?
Dec 1, 2014Apparently I have over 170 GB of programs saved on my hard drive, but I do not use it for anything fancy or did not install anything spectacular. When checking the program size, iMovie is the biggest one with only 2,1 GB. I cannot find the reason why there should be so much on the hard drive. Â

OS X :: Downloading The New Safari?
Mar 1, 2009When I download the latest version of Safari from Apple's website and try to install it, I get a message telling me that I cannot install to my hard drive because I don't have some sort of security update.
It gives me numbers like the x.x.x version but when I search for it in Apple's website it gives me a few different versions for the update for both Tiger and Leopard.
Is this normal? If so, anyone have a link to the correct security update?
I have a new Unibody 15" MBP.

Jun 18, 2009I have a mac mini with 10.5.6 leopard installed connected thru hdmi cable I believe it's called to my samsung LCD display.
Now the problem is when 10.5.7 was introduced I suffered display resoultion problems like some other people too who have the mac mini. I spoke to apple who said they were aware of the issue and for me to do a archive and install to go back to 10.5.6. Which I did. They told me that they will send the info to apple engineers in the USA so they can work on a fix. This was all discussed when 10.5.7 was released. Now that new safari has been launched safari4. I am unable to download this as it asks me to install 10.5.7. I spoke to apple last night who said they still don't have any updates on this issue yet. They said they will try look into this and get back to me. In the mean time I an stuck with current version of safari I have and a less secure 105.6 OS. As I believe 10.5.7. Improves security on my system.
