Applications :: Unable To Load Websites After Installing New Router
Jan 18, 2010
Just installed a new router - a D-Link Dir-825. I am unable to load anything in Safari or Chrome, and Mail will not go online. Only Firefox works. I've flushed my DNS cache in Terminal (I think...) but that didn't work. D-Link does not "support Safari".

Firefox refuses to load swf on any website. I can view youtube just fine. This is what it looks like. The first pic is a article on gizmodo (I am sure most of you read it). The video is supposed to be where the white box is but it doesn't load. The second pic is supposed to be a music player on myspace. Before you ask, yes I did install flash correctly. I am computer savy. I don't have any problems on safari

I can't find much information on this online, but I have heard of routers being hijacked and rerouting websites, having DNS reroute problems etc. Here are a few examples of things happening. Sometimes when I go to a message board at [URL], it loads [URL:..] Today Twitter was some random blogspot blog Ebay SSL Certificate showing up as invalid PayPal SSL Certificate showing up as invalid [URL] not loading [URL] (I think....it was some shopping site) loaded [URL] Sometimes sites just don't load, when there are no issues with the site, it'll just get a white page with an error message. There have been other odd happenings. This is all pretty weird stuff that has happened over the past few months. I have kind of just brushed it off. I never enter personal info or anything so HOPEFULLY nothing important has been taken. Now - it might be your first instint to assume that my computer might be hacked/hijacked/virus but it's NOT my computer. Like 100% not my computer. We have 3 macs here, 2 iPhones and an iPad. Whenever I am having these issues it is on ALL devices. All on wireless so this is definitely coming from the router. I have tried searching for help with this through google and can't seem to find any info. I see mention of what people were saying is a DNS hacked router, but no way to repair or even anyone discussing it so I really don't know where to turn.
Maybe someone here can point me in the right direction? What's also strange is these are always temporary...for example, I noticed it tonight when I went to do a PayPal refund, and got that SSL error so I left the site about a half hour ago. Just went again to get a screen shot to include with this post and its back to normal and SSL verified. Can anyone offer any input on this? I'm tempted to just go buy a new router...unfortunate thing is, this one isnt old. I bought this last fall and have noticed the weird problems since shortly after that. It's a Linksys WRT160Nv3 Firmware Version: v3.0.02

I am using this same router from atleast 6~7 months.. was working perfectly few days back though, but suddenly my ISP decided to (so called) upgrade there service... and since then i am not able to fully access few webpages... Youtube is not working... it shows broken links to the pictures and videos never load... Hotmail is not working... inbox opens but all the mails are scrambled... cannot open any mails... facebook is not showing pictures not even thumbnails...
and many other sites have the same issue... i am connecting my router to the ISP through PPPoE using a Username and Password... now the fun part is all these websites are working perfectly through the same router on a Windows PC... through Wireless and even through hard wired... the prob is only with both of my Macs (Macbook-core2duo & Mac Pro)... with both the connecting options...

I've set up my Netgear DGN2000 router in bridge mode to accommodate 4 machines to connect to the internet through a PPPoE broadband connection. The mac connects through airport.
All the PC's in the setup can browse without problems.
The mac however can only log into certain secure websites (like facebook, online forums, online banking ext) but then no further browsing is possible. MSN can also not log on. Other websites seems to work just fine.
I'm running OS x 10.4.11, Firefox 3.0.8, Safari 3.0.4.
Steps I have already taken to try and solve the problem is:
Adjusted the MTU value (ranging fro 1500 to 1300) of the router and Mac airport.
Setup up the ISP DNS server ip on the router and / or Mac airport connection. I also tried certain "open" DNS ips.
Cleared the Mac DNS cache
Cleared the browser history and cookies.

For some reason, certain websites (like IGN, Mac Rumor Forums, Gamespy) take 5 minutes or longer to load on my Mac Mini than on my other machines. I have a PC running Vista, Mac Book Pro, iPhone, and iPad and they have no issues loading these websites normally. Both my Mac Mini and Mac Book Pro are running the exact same setup and have 10.6.3. This happens with in both Safari and Firefox. It isn't my wireless router because the other machines are fine and don't have this issue. I did however reset the router a few times to see if that might be it... and no go. Still the same. I have the latest versions of the browsers too.

This problem is constant with no bearing on location, websites and about 75% of the images frequently won't load. When entering websites, maybe 10% of the time, the browser will tell me that the page is no good/can't find the server. When I come back later in the day I can view the site. Also with images, on blog websites, photosharing sites, or Facebook, some images will load but most won't.
Things I've already tried to fix the dilemna:
I have tried with both Safari and Google Crome.I have restarted my computer.I have restarted the browers.I have gone in to Sytem Prefences/Network and reestablished my internet connection.I have given Flash permission when it asks(although it usually doesn't ask on the websites I'm trying to access)

There are some sites, like url...that won't load properly in Safari, Chrome, nor Firefox. I'm not able to hover over my account to sign-out, as well as not able to paste links to get them to shorten it. The site loads fine on my iPhone and iPad, but not on my Macbook Pro.Other sites like Mashable, I'm not able to view any of the galleries.I've tried logging in as a guest, still the same issue. I even tried disabling ALL the plugins that are on the mac, still, same issue.

I have certain websites that just hang whenever I enter an area requiring a login. For example it happens when I log in to Facebook, or certain areas of Yahoo. It happens on both Safari 4.0.1/4.0.2 and FF 3.5. It's always the same, it just times out and then I get a message along the lines of "server reset the connection".
I also cannot send messages in Mail using the Yahoo server (smtp.yahoo.co.uk) even though Connection Doctor tells me I can connect fine. I'm convinced this is linked to the problem above. have a PowerMac G5 (Dual 2.3GHz PowerPC) and a current model MacBook Pro, both using 10.5.7. They are synced via MobileMe, and both experience the problems described above. Meanwhile my wife has a MacBook which experiences none of these issues even when visiting the websites using my login details, and working on the same wireless network/broadband provider.
I have tried clearing FF and Safari caches, I have tried deleting any cookies with Facebook or Yahoo in them, and I have tried deleting & recreating my SMTP server details, all to no avail.

I upgraded to AirPort Extreme from the previous router because my Mac would drop the wireless 802.11n connection way too often. I setup AirPort Extreme to connect through PPPoE to my optical fiber cable device. Since then the connection is fast and never drops. On the other hand it seems I cannot access some websites. These include quite a few domains, and also almost all https secured connections. For example, in a website like [URL] everything seems to go well until I need to access a secure page over https. Same on [URL]and several others. Switching back to the old modem seems to solve the issue, but then I get the old problem of the connection constantly dropping.

After restarting, Safari suddenly doesn't load any webpages. It shows all the top sites in the favorites area and actually updates some to the most recent versions, but when you try to get to the site it shows the loading bar to about an 1/8th of the way and then just pin wheels. Firefox works fine. I have used the reset to no avail. Have the current version and have been running it for a while with no problems. Firefox (3.0.7, latest version) for OSX has been a nightmare lately. I prefer it to Safari because of the extensions, but I'm thinking of ditching it. Some web pages seem to be fine, but most will only load about half of the images.
For example, on Facebook I'll get about half of the profile pictures to load on my friends list, and the others will just display a broken image link icon.
The same occurs with forums (people's avatars), and even with some major websites, where there will just be huge gaps in a page where the images are supposed to be.
I've checked the auto load settings and I don't have any exceptions, so every site should be allowed to load images immediately without permissions.

For some reason, using both Safari and Firefox, it can't connect to most websites and if it does the pages don't fully load( pictures and videos won't load) but my network works fine with other device like my phone and I'm still able to download updates. I have a new MacBook and I downloaded Veoh TV. When I downloaded Veoh TV it said I needed to download Perian to play certain videos. And I downloaded Perian Version 1.2
The problem is I don't think it's working. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. And whenever I try to watch videos on my Veoh TV it says I need to install Perian.
I just bought my mac and was previously using a PC so I am still new to the Mac and am unsure if I installed it wrong or something.

I am new to Mac and have been struggling with this issue for the last week or so: there are a few websites I cannot access anymore (such as www.westpac.com.au, www.telstra.com.au, www.optus.com.au and a few others). As far as I can guess it is not:strictly *.au website related (or at least I think) because I can access some others *.au websites and some other in *.com or *.fr don't work either. My ISP (iinet in Australia) as the websites mentioned above work from my PC when I connect it from home. Below the result from a PING on the first 2 websites in the list above:
PING www.westpac.com.au (203.24.6.90): 56 data bytes
36 bytes from TenGigabitEthernet7-1.ken29.Sydney.telstra.net (203.50.20.41): Communication prohibited by filter
Vr HL TOS Len ID Flg off TTL Pro cks Src Dst
4 5 00 5400 0ea6 0 0000 38 01 978d 10.0.1.4 203.24.6.90
PING www.telstra.com.au (144.140.108.25): 56 data bytes
--- www.telstra.com.au ping statistics ---
37 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
I have this issue from both my iMac and my Macbook Air, on which I have set up no firewall or other specific filter. I am using a Belkin modem, on which I have desactivated the WiFi to use a TimeCapsule as a WiFi router. I get the same issue when I try to connect from Safari, Firefox or Chrome. I have exhausted all tips and tricks I have from the PC word.
