PowerPC :: Mid 2005 G5 Requires Antenna For Bluetooth Operation?

Nov 27, 2006

I was wondering if the mid 2005 G5 requires an antenna for bluetooth operation. After looking on ebay, it seems that the module goes for only $20 bucks, but the antenna alone goes for another $20. I plan on using it to sync with my Motorola Razr, so it won't be far from the computer. So, without an antenna, will it still work well enough? (or at all?)

PowerPC :: How To Airport Extreme External Antenna G5

Sep 16, 2010

I know i might recieve some criticism from people but whatever.. it'l help some people out.I got ripped off on craigslist buying a powermac g5 from some punk (literally... he lived in a warehouse with skate ramps and grafitti "art" )Got this powermac, shady south side chicago kid, wont return for an antennaIve tried everything to use the airport extreme without an antenna, never get any signal without the side off. Today i was using a safety pin (a large safety pin for a hoodie or jeans)unclipped it and jammed it in the Dr. bott slot/hole ....wherever the port is on the back of your g5 that your antenna should go.Somehow i realized that it took less than 5 minutes to load a facebook page, i then scanned for networks and damn, i saw my neighbors networks.

PowerPC :: G5 2.5 DP Early 2005 ... Possible Kernal Panic

Dec 27, 2010

I am having serious issues with my Apple PowerPC G5.. Its the 2.5 Dual Processor version of early 2005 running os x 10.5.8, i have installed; 2x500gb hds along with 4.5gb of ram... Ok now heres the problem, yesterday i came across an app called "CHUD" this apparantly was developed to help speed up an OS X system, so i downlaoded and began to install the parts to the app suite, after installing 1 or 2 of the CHUD apps i came to Reggie SE, i doubled clicked on the install then my G5 decided to freeze, completley! I tried Force Quit and nothing happended, the system would not respond what so ever, so i left it for 30mins or so to see if it would figure itself out and it didnt so i had no alternative but to cut the power and reboot....

Now, after reboot, my G5 will boot up to the User login dialogue, once i enter my password the dialogue accepts my password and dissapears (astho it is logging into my account) but then the screen turns Blue and the system returns to the Username & Password dialogue box..... Also the fans within my system begin to speed up and dont stop for a while, almost sounds like my G5 Tower is about to take off!

I have the chance to buy one for hundreds less than a comparable Powermac and was wondering if I was going to be stuck with PCI video.

PowerPC :: Unable To Modify G4 MDD For 24/7 Operation

May 7, 2010

I have an old 867 Mhz G4 MDD that I would like to be able to leave running 24/7 as a server, jukebox etc. Right now it's noisy (these things are legendarily loud) and power hungry. It won't have to work very hard. What could I do to make it efficient and quiet enough to run 24/7, without dumping a lot of $$$?

Obviously what I really need is a mac mini, but this will have to do.

PowerPC :: Mounting The Power-supply From The 2004 On The 2005 Is The Power-supply Compatible Or Not

Dec 29, 2010

I have a PowerMac G5 with the first motherboard that is out of order, and another PowerMac

G5 Late 2005

with 2x2.0GHZ

Mounting the powersupply from the 2004 on the 2005 is the powersuply compatible or not?

EDIT: I looked on Mactracker and compared the two:
Max Watts in the first is 604W and 450W on the late 2005.
I want to put a powersuply from a G5 2004 (604W ) on a G5 2005 that had a 450W powersuply is this possible ?

I just bought a wireless extreme card (up till now I was wired into the router and didn't need it)and the only antenna's I can find are the really small ones that I think are for bluetooth. I looked at the online manual and it tells me that it should be there (silver wire with a larger connector on the end) but **** if I can find it.

PowerPC :: Internal Usb For Bluetooth - IBook G3 A1005?

Aug 13, 2010

I managed to nab an iBook G3 for 20 and am pretty much loving it.One problem is that for bluetooth I need to use a dongle, and even with modern super teeny-weeny ones, it's a bit of a pain. Now, I know it's possible to solder the connectors to a USB port and install the dongle internally, but this also has the disadvantage of disabling the use of your USB Port.

Therefore, does anyone know if the iBook G3 (A1005, 800Mhz) has any internal USB connectors that will allow me to do this without sacrificing a USB Port? When I had it open after I got it (Had to replace a broken display cable), I had a brief look, but it wasn't very thorough. Before I crack her open again, I'd just like to see if I can save myself a lot of time and effort for a possibly fruitless search.

PowerPC :: Get Or Upgrade Mini To Have Nonexistent Bluetooth Module?

May 11, 2007

So my iBook of 4 years died last week from a bad hard drive. Today I purchased a 1.42 Ghz G4 Mini with 1 GB of RAM, 80 Gb HDD, Super Drive, and Airport, for $300 on craigslist. I got it today set everything up with my Dell Monitor and Apple Keyboard and Mouse etc.

First: Any thoughts on if this was a wise purchase (hindsight being 20/20 and all), I'm very happy thus far and will look to get a Macbook Pro in about 6-12 months.

Second: Is there anyway to get or upgrade the Mini to have the nonexistent Bluetooth module? If not, what's the best option to create Bluetooth connectivity?

PowerPC :: Powerbook With Bluetooth Mighty Mouse Options?

I have a 12" PowerBook G4 (the very last revision in 2006) and I've never had issues with the bluetooth before (although I've only ever used it to move a few pictures from my phone to my laptop occasionally). This week, I bought a wireless mighty mouse and connected it no problem. Yesterday was the first day I used it and it worked like a champ all day. Today, I was using it and in the middle of moving it around, it just stopped responding. My trackpad still works fine, but the cursor stops moving with the mouse, the clicker doesn't work, etc. When I turn the mouse off for a minute and then turn it back on, it works for a few minutes and then quits again. The first thing I tried was to swap batteries, but that didn't help. Neither did a restart.

MacBook :: WiFi Antenna Cables Stuck Suffered From Excessive Pressure

Oct 18, 2009

Does your first gen MacBook have WiFi problems? Here's why mine has. I opened it for the first time, and here's what I found. These are the WiFi antennas cables: They've been cut by the simply opening and closing the display, for more than three years. The cables are stuck in a bad place and suffer from excessive pressure and contortion. Of course my Apple care is finished... but all these wifi problems in the apple support forum make me think every first gen macbook is concerned [URL] This is a MacBook Core Duo 2.0 ghz (Early 2006).
