PowerPC :: Fitting IMac G3 CPU Accessory In Right Position?

Mar 13, 2010

My Kids are using an old iMac G3. When I open the iMac, I recognized, that one of the two pins (?), which holds the cpu-cooler is missed. I don't know the exact name of that, and wonder, where I can buy one to fit the cooler again into the right position. I don't wont to buy another logicboard to exchange the parts.

PowerPC :: Use Different Processors On Motherboard?

Jun 24, 2008

I was recently given a non working G5 dual 2.5ghz machine. It is a quad core machine with the Delphi liquid cooling system. After some investigating I found it had a coolant leak. All the fans and lights come on as well as the bootup chime. I think (hoping) that the motherboard and power supply are still good. My question is this:

Can I use different processors on this motherboard? Lets say a dual 2.5ghz non-quad core processor assembly. Am I making sense? I am very new to the Mac world and would appreciate any help on this issue.

PowerPC :: Finding Motherboard Information?

Nov 24, 2010

I have Powermac G4 AGP (M7628LL/A) that has the AGP slot without the 'power-supplying' tab at the front of the slot. Therefore my NVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card (ADC/VGA) will only enable me to use the VGA outlet, and not the ADC. I have two Studio Display Monitors (M7649) and cannot use them.

I need to know (1) What other monitors will work with this G4 (in case I cannot fulfill #2), and most importantly (2) Which motherboard can I replace this one with that will enable me to use the video card in it's fullest?

PowerPC :: Using G4 400mhz - Red Light On Motherboard

Jul 26, 2007

I bought 4 G4 towers of eBay for 85.. none have Hdd's so havent tried them out yet (two also have no graphic cards) I got a mix of ram size and speed (pc100/pc133) however thats not my question

Next to the ram slots theres a red light that comes on, is this normal? I've tried to do some research on it and some people say it is, others say it isnt.

I plan to sell them off again on ebay but I did it mainly as a project to keep the G4's alive. Any suggestions on graphic cards (cheap ones too)?

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Motherboard Replacement

Sep 15, 2007

I'm looking into replacing a motherboard on my newphews iBook G4. It's an early 2004 Series. I'm wondering if these Ibooks have interchangable motherboards, i.e. 1.0ghz vs 1.2ghz, 12inch screen vs the 14inch screen. I've done much work on IBM compatible laptops and these interchange pretty easily...but these MAC's are all new to me. I'm looking to get a busted up one off ebay and replace it for him for pretty cheap...

PowerPC :: Quicksilver Power Supply On A Gigabit Motherboard?

Mar 7, 2008

Recently I didn't do my research, and I purchased a Quicksilver power supply to put on a Gigabit machine. I noticed it had four extra pins which look like some of the ones they use to power processors in some PCs (tho I've come to find this is for the ADC port). I dug a little deeper (Googled "powermac_g4.pdf") and found out that some of the pins have differences between the Gigabit PS and the Quicksilver PS.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? Will the PS work without any wirecutting or do I need to get a new one?

PowerPC :: Motherboard Removal / Replacement - Any Docs To Guide

Oct 2, 2009

I have a replacement motherboard (G4 MDD 1.25 dual) coming in and even though I have a very talented and technical friend coming by to help, it'd sure be nice to have some instructions on removing the current motherboard and the subsequent install of the newer one. Mine is having kernel panics about 98% of the time on attempted startups and I've tried (along with the Apple Store Genius Bar) everything I know how to do or have Googled and read. I think it's perhaps a USB bus issue.

I did manage to get it to boot from the Apple Hardware Test and everything passed. And, one of the USB connectors on the back of the machine is damaged, so I figure a complete motherboard swap should eliminate all possibilities except for maybe the CPU which seemed to pass. So back to the original query. Are there docs somewhere to guide one in the removal of the motherboard? I run a recording studio with this machine and I'm dead in the water! I am looking into either a new MacIntel or possibly a used G5 to replace it with.

PowerPC :: Finding Ibook Clamshell Backlight Plugin On Motherboard Broke

Nov 17, 2006

While taking apart ibook to replace harddrive on grapghite 466 , I ran into trouble. In taking out the backlight cable, the whole plastic receptor (little white plasatic at J4) on the motherboard came off as well. This is a little part (1/4 x 1/8inch). I can't tell if it was soldered on or just slips on the motheboard since tiny bits of plastic broke off. Can someone tell me if/how this can be repaired.

MacBook :: CD / DVD Not Fitting In BlackBook Drive?

Oct 4, 2009

I have a black macbook with 120GB HD and 2GB of RAM running 10.5. My problem is that a little while ago my blackbook dropped about half a foot and I immediately opened it to check if it was okay, as I was scared to death. Until recently everything was working fine...until I decided to put in a DVD. I tried putting it in and it only goes in about 1/3 of the way. Something in the front of the drive is blocking it, which is a problem because I can't push it in all the way. I have applecare until January, but I'm currently residing in Germany for a year, so shipping it to Apple might be a little bit of a problem. I'm including a pic so you can see how far it goes in before it stops.

OS X :: Fitting Music To IPhoto Slideshow

Nov 27, 2009

So, I've created a slideshow, and want to fit music to it. However, whenever I try to do so, the program insists on lingering on the first slide for a full thirty seconds before going on to the next slide. This shouldn't be necessary to make the music fit - all subsequent slides are at just over 5 seconds, and if all slides were just slightly longer than that, it would easily fit. Even if I delete the last slide, it simply makes the subsequent slide lasts 30 seconds.

OS X :: Fitting Application Screen To Window

May 2, 2010

I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this right. I work on an external monitor connected to my macbook, set to 1920 resolution. I was using Itunes stretched out to fill the whole monitor at that resolution. Upon switching to the macbook, the itunes window is now too large when I switch to the macbook display. I can't even see the bottom right handle that you normally drag to resize the window. Clicking on the + button doesn't help, as it only shrinks Itunes to the mini player. How can I get itunes back to a smaller window size?

MacBook :: Hard Drive Not Fitting Into Connector

Mar 13, 2012

I've ever tried to upgrade a hard drive on a 13", 2007, white Intel MacBook.I was following the directions I had found on the internet.I've taken the old drive out, swapped the hard drive plate from the original drive to the new hard drive and tried to push it back into the same slot, but for some reason I can't get it to go all the way back into that slot the drive fits in.Strange enough, it also feels like it's pushing against something rubbery on the inside. It's less than a 1/4 inch from going all the way back in.I've made certain that all the screws are tightened all the way on the drive, but can't figure out why I'm getting resistence when I try to push it in that weeee little bit.I am certain that I have the drive flipped the proper way too, because I took note of how the original drive was oriented and made sure I duplicated that on this new drive.Like I had said before, it feels like there is something rubbery that's in the way, I just can't get to it.So I'm also curious if anyone knows if I were to take off the top cover on the laptop whether that would expose the hard drive so that I could see why it's not fitting into the connector properly.

MacBook Pro :: Doing Motherboard Diagnostic?

Jul 26, 2010

I've been experiencing a variety of problems with my peripheral devices. At first it started with my monitor and I thought it was going out... it was having lines (darker lines, like flickering) all over the screen... but then I realized this happened when I plugged something into my computer... so for example if my external monitor is on, and I plug in my firewire soundcard it starts to flickr...

Then it started to do it when I would plug in my printer... now if I plug in my firewire soundcard my monitor turns on and off... and I'm having sync issues with my soundcard.

I wiped my computer, reset the SMC and the PRAM and NVRAM. How do I test if my mother board is crapping out?

MacBook Pro :: How To Test Mac Motherboard

May 6, 2012

What is the best was to diagnose possible motherboard faults on a Mac? I'm having various problems which appear to be hardware related (i.e. re-formatting, re-loading OSX, etc don't seem to fix them and the problems appear at different times running different processes) so want to check the motherboard out.Typical problems are a USB hard drive suddening going off-line, the DVD burner suddenly resetting itself for no reason, screen not redrawing properly etc. and all these only happen occasionally. The only test I can find is a RAM test (various programs allow this including Tech Tool Pro 6) but is there a way to test other components?
